I like it too. Would hate to be one of those who had T’Pol 4/5 and bought a final star for her for $25 yesterday though.
The other side of the coin: Loyal souls like most here in the forum are rare in this and many games. Users come and go. Hence DB also agreed to a partnership to aquire new users last year. And since most longterm players also have no shortage on chrons, a deep crew etc. that offer had no value for most and they passed on it.
Different with new players: At the start they same as we were are short on everything. So maybe they liked T´Pol, got a kinda decent all around crew, some chrons they needed - and now as "bonus" can get a second copy during the event.
You can never please everyone in games (so those who did have her 4/5 and bought a further star are surely pissed), but what DB did here is a good thing for most players.
Well i dont think that lots of people bought the offer, on the thread dedicated to it everybody is saying how they wont buy it for $25...for once dbs idea to inflate the price actually saved them in a sense!
Would that be this thread with 2K views and 80 comments? Somehow, I doubt that it accurately reflects the purchasing decisions of the approximately 68K other players who regularly participate in events (using Roonis’s 70K as a baseline).
I mean, someone sure as heck is buying the $25 cards, even if it’s not those 2K viewers or 80 commenters ... or me.

P.S.: In the past 2 weeks, 92153 players competed in the Captain division of the Arena.
I'm always amused by the old "forum members don't represent the player base" comments.
Guess words and phrases like "microcosm" and "representative sample" can be tossed out and surveys and polls can go too. Which is fine by me. Hopefully the media can start covering cute puppies and kittens during elections instead of telling us what polls show.
Fair point. According to this statistical calculator, I can say with a 95% confidence level that a sample size of 80 will accurately reflect the views of a population of 92153, 95% of the time with a confidence interval of ~5%.
(I think I phrased that correctly, but if I did not, I feel confident that someone will correct me. Also, here is a screenshot of the website’s calculated results.)
So, it could be that 0 players would have purchased the offer, just as it could be for 4607 players. At US$ 25 an offer, I can understand why DB keeps trotting them out, even if the overwhelming majority of us Forum regulars dislike the price point.

That's only correct if the sample is randomly selected. The forum go-ers are NOT a random sampling of the player base. It's a self-selected group.
I would expect forum go-ers are far more likely than the player base as a whole to:
Play more frequently than the "average player" (since they are willingly engaging in discussions about the game)
Are more likely to spend $$ (yes, there are plenty in the forum that don't spend, but I would guess the proportions are far different)
So I would expect the forums to do a good job of reflecting the opinions of certain parts of the player base, but certainly not as a whole.

I agree with your assessment of the player base in the forum, hence, if the forum isn't spending, it is unlikely that there is significant player spending. That said, the only person that know is the DB marketing team. They run the numbers, and if they see the $25 offers delivering similar revenue to the $10 ones, then that is what we will keep seeing.
App Annie can provide some insight into how successful their campaign was. However, the free version is VERY limited and you can only see the grossing rank (not amount of revenue made), and it's limited to the last 60 days.
The Android version of the app shows a decline from Monday into Wednesday. The iOS app on iPhones shows a slight increase in grossing ranking from Monday into Tuesday, then another decline into Wednesday. Finally, the iOS app on iPad shows a pretty steady increase from Monday into Wednesday (it actually looks like one of their best days in the last month, specifically for iPad).
Thanks, I got my 3rd star for mirror T'Pol in this event. And Since I'm out of crew to max I'm saving some 4/4's I already have to level at 5 levels / day for my daily rewards. Valeris seems a nice addition to have 2 copies of.
