What are your strategies for the game?

I love this game, and have played it so long I've just about lost track of all the fun I keep having. Along the way I see there's a ton of resources for people to learn new and better strategies, though no place jumped out at me here. So I'd like to take this time to invite each of you to share with the rest your strategies for something great about the game. That could be strategy for the Gauntlet, fleet building, whatever you like!
HIGH RANKING, HIGHLY SEXY FLEET SEEKS HOT & ACTIVE PEOPLE FOR SOME FUN PLAY.

Have you been naughty? Playing with yourself again? Has another fleet touched you in bad ways? Don’t worry, we will train you…. Gently. Light bondage only. Bring your own handcuffs, though…. We don’t supply them.

We’re not those other guys. Here we shower often, and we treat our members like family.
We know how to whip some serious tail, yet no one is left to shiver out in the cold. If you need advice, help, strategy, tips or anything at all…. I and my officers are here to help you.

Currently, we're looking for more good people to enjoy the game with us, and we offer a TON to our members, in return. We prefer level 50 members and above. Lower level players than this will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We use the DISCORD app for all our fleet chats (it's free). We're much better organized than many other top-tier fleets in the game, while a heck of a lot more relaxed and much more fun to be a part of. I have numerous other former fleet Admirals who joined me, and we have a world of knowledge and experience to share with you. Sure, we all love the game, and we enjoy playing it often; but we're also a fun family of kooky friends from around the world, who enjoy playing the game together. On top of playing, we also hang out often and share plenty of good laughs, an excellent supportive environment and one another's company.

It's OK if you don't play every day. You don’t have to be a daily player, but the more you play the more fun you’ll have with us. So long as you let me know ahead of time whenever you know you're going to be offline from the game for five days or more, I won't kick you for inactivity. You can send me that message on DISCORD at any time you need to; it takes only a moment. That rule helps keep our fleet as active as possible.

All Captains MUST have a name other than just “Captain” so that others may recognize you. We have no drama, but instead are a close-knit group of good people who treat each other as if we’re both friends & family.

WE’RE ALMOST ALL VERY HIGHLY ACTIVE, and help is never far whenever you might need it, at any stage of the game, nearly 24/7. Whatever your skill level, we can help you.

If you are interested in joining our fleet, please feel free to message me and I will be glad to assist you.

Free steak & Lobster available from our resident chef upon joining (alternate meal suggestions are possible), drinks available through our in-house bartender/barista/host. Please be sure to tip your wait staff. They're nuts, but they're worth it.

While I know people will disagree with me, I think the crew management aspect is the kicker (especially for playing for free). Learning and mastering crew management and the mistakes made along the way were actually enjoyable for me.
It took about a year, when I realized that events will repeat, so If I toss an unfused 4* card, its not the end of the world if it meant giving me a plaform to Fully equip and fuse a 3* card and save forever.
That 4* would eventually come back into the fold.

I agree with this sentiment completely. Crew management is of utmost importance in any military organization. If I had better control over demoting squadron leaders who under-perform, promoting squadron members to squadron leaders in their place, and kicking members from a squadron without booting from the fleet, I would be much better equipped to manage how my fleet is run than I am today. As it stands, the only method of dealing with people not fit to be in squadron leading positions, is to kick them out of the fleet and in effect disband the entire squadron. You don't break up a good crew... even if the leader is needing replaced

Ive reached the point where im going to spend citations to ff all my crew and pick up any event crew i like. I know sounds a lot like @Banjo1012 strategy, its a good strategy and i gotta try!

I keep a bench of players, in other words, the bottom spots of my crew. This will vary depending on how many crew spots you have and how many you want to dedicate for this purpose. I don't level them unless I get all the stars or if I think they will be critical crew. This leaves me space to take on any new or better crew that come along in any given week without a major realignment. I just drop who I think is the worst character off my bench or freeze a fringe character if necessary.

I also cited some 4* about 6 months in to close some gaps. It let me consistently get to the 6 hour voyage mark. Some will disagree, but I thought it was worth it. After that, I started focusing on citing 5*, especially the 4/5 Mega characters since I only have s handful of 5/5s and it is the biggest skill jump in most cases.

It definitely works for me. As I said, you’re much stronger with a handful of 5/5’s than you are with a hundred 1/5’s. You can only use what, 20 or so at a time anyway between Voyages and shuttles. I’m at nearly 200,000 honor now so I have a free shot at immortalizing the next 5* I get. I’m thinking of using 150,000 after the DYC when I get Locutus because I actually don’t have anyone with high DIP/SEC besides Mariachi Q and he’s only those two skills, no tertiary. When you get to this point, you look for crew that helps your skill pairings. Reverend Phlox is a great example. Who couldn’t use someone with COM and MED over 1000? Also when you have everyone FE, all your resources are whatever you want them for. When I get Locutus it will take me a minute or two to FE him with plenty of chrons left for events.

Nice approach as it lets you build crew on your own terms. I have tried to cite 5* characters to get maximum value on a handful from the Megas and I am working my way out. I am waiting for my Yar citations to come in so I can drop them on an Engineering gap that I have. Either RAF O Brien or Aviator Yar.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. And Aviator Yar is great! High ENG/SEC with decent COM to boot. I would say she’s slightly more rare than Miles. Lore, Captain LaForge, and Rufio all have identical high skill sets. Only other one I have with Yar’s is Mirror Bashir but he only has those two skills, no tertiary

Once I reached the stage of being able to gain all the copies of the super rare crew from an event, that became my major focus in the game. I waited until only recently to go back and start completing the common, uncommon, and rare collections. While that's been a very long-term strategy of delayed gratification, I think it was the right one as it allowed me to start earning my first copies of legendary crew faster.

    Unique Crew Immortalized: 525

The strats I'm concentrating on at my situation in the game (capt level 71 VIP 12)
    1. I try to have 50K honor ready for mega-events. I usually can as long as I've bit on one of those 10 for $10 pack deals. For context I haven't picked up Crusher for 100K, I did get Kahless. If you want to finish high during a mega-event event it's good to have the recurring 5* leveled up and fused up.
    2. The wiki is your friend, especially for Voyage dilemma choices.
    3. I try to start a gauntlet run right before it closes/rolls over. It seems like competition is easier then. I go for streaks as long as they aren't hogging my merits, maybe YOLO for rank at the end of the second day.
    4. I've been leveling up most of my legendaries, even the 1/5s. They can sometimes be relevant for voyages. Of course, level them up if they are good at gauntlets. If you could see yourself using them at a 45% crit bonus: then they're worth leveling. I also level up super rare crew that I have 3 copies of, just in case a voyage gives me a 4th.
    5. I'm pretty instinctual when it comes to crew slot management. If I FF/FL somebody who looks useful, but they aren't being used, I'll freeze them. For a while now I haven't really had slot problems.
    6. Make sure you send voyages before you assign shuttles.
    7. Be judicious with how hard you try with galaxy events. Do you have the best or near the best crew? Do you have the chrons (to get 1/5 is usually 8-10K for me, I spent between 60-80K for getting 2x Alternative Future Jadzia Dax)? Most importantly do you have the IRL time?
    8. If you want to rank up in arena, choose a ship+crew that win quickly. Otherwise I get bored quickly. T'Kuvma is great for that.

Just after I started playing the Cryostasis Vault was implemented (back in mid-2016 sometime). I thought it over a bit and decided to take this game real slow. I realised quickly that if I would put money into the game it would never be anywhere near the amount that actual Star Trek fans would put into this game (I never watched ST shows/movies, though I did know about it through popular culture and only recently watched Discovery).
--> This meant that I'd never I figured I'd never be "best/top" at anything so I decided to work away at my own level, not really caring about what others achieved.

I took the complete opposite approach to what most people did/do ... I started immortalising 1-3* crew ... back then getting crew was more difficult ... so I had all 1* and 2* crew immortalised within the first 100 crew I FE'd.

Late 2016 I did put a little bit of money into the game ... 2x monthly card and later a 10 for 10 deal ... back then it was the only source for Dil and I wanted 4 shuttles ... the rest I spent on crew slots during sales. I've not put money into the games since early 2017.

Once I put money into the game I decided I never wanted to airlock a card I did not have ... and thus I've kept to that motto. This meant that I built up portal pulls etc. and used my resources sparingly.

The game has changed a lot since then ... but I've kept the same strategy ... immortalise as many crew as possible, keep all crew that I do not have a copy of yet, no matter how poor they are.
Over time I've been able to rank top 5 Gauntlet, top percentile Arena, top 1000 in events (Faction only so far). Things I never imagined possible.

Lastly ... I've also realised that my personal situation does not allow me to put the time into the game that I know others do. I know I can do better in events if I just take my phone with me to family gatherings etc., but my strategy has been to not let the game dictate how I act in my personal life. If I can't make all my dailies, so be it etc. etc. etc. There have been many testimonies on this (and the old) forum of how players got burnt out by the game and so quit. I don't want to be one of those players.

I just took my two Poly Yar citations plus another 50k I saved up and took Aviator Yar to 4/5 because she has the strong SEC. It was tough because although I liked RAF O Brien a little more more, I can put 5/5 Ruafo at COM instead and put next best 1/5 or 4/4 into the ENG slot on voyages depending on traits. I only have Ruafo and now Aviator Yar over 900 ENG. Next is Baseball Rom just under 900 and then it drops off quite a bit so your approach to picking and choosing characters to fill out your roster can really change the strength of your crew and close some critical gaps. The game becomes a lot more fun when you have the freedom to play any way you want because you put the work in to get a strong balanced crew.

Yes! And you gotta figure the thing you do most often and benefit most from is Voyages. Definitely need balanced crew for that.

I'm saving up honor points to get Kahless the Unforgettable. 300,000 to FF him, which means around 500k the way I play so I can continue training everyone else in my crew. Every so often, I buy 3 merit rewards for 725 merits. Then I usually sell them for honor points, since I'm topped off. I also go and buy ten basic rewards in the portal too, for 90k federation credits. Out of that lot I sell the crew I get as well unless (rare instance) I find someone I need or want. Add that to the honor points. Between that, hitting the daily rewards and running constant voyages plus voyages, I built up near 30k honor points in just under a week or so.

Can anyone think of a faster method of collecting honor points?

I approach from a card collecting standpoint and as VIP0 player. My initial goals were simply to get four shuttles and become a 1-2-3 captain.

Now that those are accomplished, my main goals are:

    - Save dilithium for crew slot expansion
    - Maximize Voyage potential
    - Do well enough in Events to fully fuse, if possible, new crew releases and add on existing crew stars.
    - Widen my net of super-rares to Immortalize (knowing full well I’ll never keep pace with new releases)
    - Build my fleet membership and Starbase (Steeler Nation)
    - Have fun both in game and on the forums
Come join the Steeler Nation Fleet!

I'm guessing he's also frequently extending voyages at least once? Would help with more honor, but horrendous dil cost to do this all the time.

@Pol You're welcome to come and join my fleet, Second Fleet HQ. I'd be happy to teach anyone how to do it. WITHOUT a horrendous cost in dilithium, too! 🤓😁

Thanks for the invite Admiral :)
But there are some very nice chaps in my fleet that i would hate to let down. If the fleet swapping is a requirement for the knowledge i must sadly pass. If not... you will make a happy camper out of me !
Thanks anyway (a lot of really friendly people in this game, a BIG plus!)

My strategy is to complete all the Missions, then get all the crew if possible and try to get in the top 50 in the Events.
  • Options
    - got rid of low level 1/5* crew
    - got rid of low level 1/4* and 2/4* crew
    - get rid of 3/4* event crew that won't show up in the portal soon
    - only FE 4* event crew that comes in four copies during the event
    - have every card FE
    - use Honor only on FE 5* crew
Hopefully this will strengthen available crew further in order to be able to run voyages for 8 hours all the time.

@Darth Grandpa interesting strategy. And I love the name you chose, by the way

30k honor a week?.. teach me master! I rake up only half ot that![/quote]

For one thing, my fleet is very highly active. So I'm thankfully enjoying a good bit of honor points daily there. I also constantly run voyages, shuttle missions & gauntlet. Plus every so often I buy 3 crew members using credits, and unless (rare now) I can use them, I sell them for honor points. When I have federation credits to spare, I buy 10x basic rewards for 90k, and sell those guys too.

Selling crew often, helps give me plenty of honor points. Then I earn a bunch too thru personal activity and fleet activity. I don't often extend voyages, tho on rare occasions I might. I'm kinda stingy with using dilithium for stuff, since I'm only paying for a monthly card and don't wanna shell out too much money for the game too often. If the price for that was lower..... But it's not. I'd pay smaller amounts than they ask for now, then the larger amounts DB charges most often. My policy is if I'm gonna pay enough for a video game, I'd prefer to own the game (like buying something to enjoy on my PS4, for example).

Most of my voyages I'll run for 4-8 hours then restart after collecting. Depends on how long my antimatter lasts. With honor, I get bigger rewards from this strategy, since I typically collect between 500-600 or more per day in chronitons to use.

I've tweaked this recipe as I've gone along, and find 30k honor a week not easy yet doable. You don't have to play the game 24/7, but the more you can come on throughout the day, even just a little here & there used most wisely, the faster you'll collect honor points.

That 30k number was an average after 4 weeks of employing this strategy. It works

I find it very difficult to believe you score 30k honor a week doing what everyone that plays the game does. Actually I don’t believe you at all. Voyages, your durations will get you about 500. Three a day at 7 days a week we will round up to 10,000. Credit pulls don’t give you much. I do it all the time too. Say 75 each time, perhaps 3 times at 3 times a week will give you 675. Daily fleet give you what, close to 800? At 7 days a week is 5600 for a total of a little over 16,000. Unless your buying every Monday offer and it’s always 30 pulls (which will average 24-26000) your weekly accruel is half what you say. Did I miss anything in my calculations?

Good goals. I would caution you that my experience is that anything I want ASAP usually costs me loads of resources to get at the expense of other crew. But this game is about building a dream crew, so go dream.

I'm in agreement with Banjo. I've been super active in the last two months due to some (lack of) work related issues. I'd guess I'm averaging about 45k honor monthly. That's being fully active in voyages that typically run between 7.5 and 8.5 hours (with lots of 4* drops that I've already FF'ed), and having a fleet that typically hits 110 on at least 2/3 honor achievements (if not all). Unless I'm banking chronitons for galaxy events, I hit all my dailies for 200 honor there. I don't see this happening unless you are dumping some serious cash into buying 4* packs and liquidating them.

As far as my strategy, it's gone through a lot of iterations. I was an early adopter of the game, like in week 2. As the game has gone through changes I've adapted for different situations. These days I'm focusing on voyages, putting them on second priority only during faction events (keep them running but best crew on shuttles). Recently I started focusing on saving honor to increase my 5* stats, not necessarily FF'ing them but enough so they outpace my 4/4s. I've stopped honoring up my 4*s as I'm getting enough over time out of voyages or 4* portals during galaxy events. Occassionally I shift gears to bank chronitons for galaxy events... I'm hoping to go into the 10/11/2018 event with 20k chrons and hopefully cross the top 25 achievement.

The rest has been all about crew management these days. I keep a spreadsheet to track my characters with the top 6 base stats and top 6 average stats. This typically gives me enough active characters to have a fair number of open slots for new unfinished crew or unfrozen crew for events. It also gives me a place to play with and compare stats to see what 5*s to honor up so I can freeze some 4/4s and free up crew slots.

    My 8-Point STT Strategy:

    1. Voyage.
    2. Have fun. If something isn't fun, don't do it.
    3. Only pursue characters I care about.
    4. Contribute to the fleet.
    5. No more spending beyond monthly cards.
    6. Have fun.
    7. Voyage.
    8. Have fun!

I have coffee cup Janeway frozen and Warship Janeway at 1*. Most of these copies dropped in voyages rather than 10 x pulls. You may get a better chance of landing a higher rate of super rares in voyages rather than pulls.

As for strategy, constantly voyage, constantly shuttle, the rest really depends on where you are in the game. At the start i concentrated on cadets and getting the FF 4* from galaxy events finished. Now I try to juggle crew slots, focus on the crew that maximise voyages and prioritize event crew. Then I focus on small bonus crew, any FF4* I have. I still have tons to do!

Not everyone is aware of this, so here's a juicy little tidbit, with thanks to DB for providing it to us. For those of you using your phone to play the game, would you like to get DOUBLE the chroniton rewards for your cadet missions? I know it doesn't work on pc's and macs, and I'm not sure how it works on tabs, but I use my iPhone and can use my ad bonuses to earn double the chroniton rewards, every time, so long as the ad bonus is available. So every three days or so you can use 6 cadet missions to earn you up to 300 extra chronitons per day. Here's proof:

This is particularly advantageous on Thursdays for getting double the shuttle boost rewards, or when farming for a specific item. For example, I've been playing a specific mission every MWF during the current mega event to farm 0* holoprograms, and then doubling the rewards with this new ad feature. It's very helpful.
