2018 Crew by the Numbers

As we near the end of the year, I thought it might be of interest to some of you to see the numbers on crew added in 2018. This data is finalized, unless DB releases a crew member outside their regular schedule in the final week of the year. Because of the new reward schedule, I've counted recent 5* Rank Reward crew as being released on the Monday their events ended, rather than when their actual event packs went live. this final event's Rank 5*, Warship EMA, will become available to Top 1000 players on Monday, New Year's Eve, making it a 2018 release. Anyway, here ya go:

This chart shows all series, including TAS, and the movies broken into TOS and TNG:

Here's what it looks like if all ten movies are consolidated as a single category:

This chart consolidates TAS and TOS Movies with TOS and TNG Movies with TNG:

Here's how the crew breaks down by rarity:

And this is why we have so many 1/5's in our crews.

4* high level training maneuvers. They should not really be considered cadets. But of course there well may be cadets in 4* and 5*.

I am satisfied with that distribution. Though, ToS may be a bit to high. 26% DS9, 24% TNG, 13% DISCO, 13% Enterprise, 11% VOY, 11% ToS, 1% tas.

So I don't see Amelia Earhart, Rain Robinson, Lucille Davenport.

And by the character (for those with more than one persona released):

    6x
    Burnham

    5x
    Picard

    4x
    Data
    Q
    Quark
    Benjamin Sisko

    3x
    Archer
    Beverly Crusher
    The Doctor
    Jadxia Dax
    La Forge
    Spock
    T'Pol
    Tyler/Voq

    2x
    Barclay
    Bashir
    Dukat
    Keiko
    Martok
    McCoy
    Neelix
    Odo
    Pulaski
    Sarek
    Sato
    Seven
    Sulu
    Tilly
    Weyoun
    Yar
  • Burnham has the most releases to date, though worth noting that two of them were 2*.

Picard has the second most, and the first wasn't released until 25 April (Romulan Picard).

Aside from TNG where they originated, Barclay and Q both had versions from two different series; VOY and DS9, respectively.

Fascinating breakdown, thanks for doing this Travis!! Two questions though:

    - should Demora count as TOS instead of TNG or is she "the next generation" of Sulu?

    - man would it great to be able to vault 1/5s!

Damn. Not sure how or why I missed all three of those. Good catch!

I count Demora as TNG since she's from a TNG movie, just as I elsewhere count Nexus Kirk and Captain John Harriman as TNG from that same movie.

If I could vault 1/5s, I'd be WAY more motivated to either rank to get them, or buy Tuesday or special packs. Oh, well . . .

I also just caught that I somehow forgot to include Armus and Vice-Admiral Dougherty. These five have all been incorporated into the data and are now reflected in the charts and lists. That should be everyone.

    We need more TAS

There’s a fairly limited amount of material to pick from but there have been several good suggestions about TAS characters that could be introduced, such as M’Ress and Stavos Keniclius. I think we have been pretty fortunate so far, especially with Thelin and April.

Mothersmurfer! >:( Now I'm just getting mad at myself. In fairness, as severely depressed as I've been for much of this year, I'm kind of impressed I've only missed six. I'm also surprised that none of the ones I missed were released during the ten days I was hospitalized. I don't understand how my brain decides what's important at any given time. I really just don't.

M'Ress is a must. I also would like Selek (time traveling adult Spock from "Yesteryear").

Nice info. I think DB actually hit the mark with series break down.

Repeat crew could use a bit of work.

Obviously they failed miserably with rarity distribution. When your rarest, "legendary" cards out number all the rest of your cards combined, then you apparently don't understand the words rare or legendary.

Thanks for saving a DB employee days or weeks of work (I hope and doubt it took you that long). Now maybe they can run it up the flag pole and do some analysis.

It just goes to show not every event deserves a legendary. Getting close to 2 legendary per week is silly. All this does is greatly dillute every other legendary when they hit the portal and make every other legendary less important. I realize they probably make most of their income on these cards, but seeing the actual numbers and the distribution is staggering. Not sure what the solution is, but it was interesting to read a post a while ago that about downgrading older cards a tier.

Actully there are few dozens characters from TAS that we are missing here. I already mentioned them here but some others have been mentioned several times on forum.

M’Ress and Stavos Keniclius have been asked for many times since I'm playing this game. But we can also get Theela, Xerious and many others. We can even get Slavers (from episode 14) as nobody knows how they look like.

We can also get new versions of Scotty, Dr. McCoy, Captain Kirk and Spock with portable personal shields.

I have a spreadsheet that I (try to) update when new crew are announced. Each update only takes a few minutes.

As for the 5* rarity cards, it's true they outnumber other rarity levels, but they're also circulated at considerably lower rates. Several of the character choices may make the designation "Legendary" dubious (looking at you, Etana Jol), but the cards themselves do remain the rarest of the rare.

    Thanks, Travis.

The pie chart makes it obvious that there is way too much Voyager. >:)

It would be our second Boots Spock
  • I audited the list and found one more absence: Satan's Robot, from 2 January. Adding him had a curious effect: it tied VOY with Disco and ENT at 12.2% apiece for the year.

Also, I added a new chart showing the breakdown by series, but with TOS Movies (3.3%) and TNG Movies (5%) isolated. Combined, movie crew made up 8.3% of this year's offerings to date.

Thx Travis. Great work. Hope you have a better year next year.
    Let’s fly!
  • I know people hated how they added so many Janeways in succession one year, but I still think we need two more:
    • Year of Hell Janeway
    • Endgame Admiral Janeway
