The real reason why IamP IS necessary

I will make it short as possible. It's just my opinion, everyone can write their own opinion....
1. Steam version of STT is horrific. This game should be optimized differently for PC
2. You can't search items easily
3. You can't see overall which items are necessary and where to get them
4. You can't see how many replicator rations are left
5. You can't shutdown animations, For some of us TIME is premium and I don't want to watch animations every time.
Especially for dilemmas, I don't want to lose one minute for selecting a dilemma where I could lose 5 seconds through IamP
6. Cryo search is so bad that it is almost non-existant
7. You can't see and compare at once all your crew - currently active and frozen

IamPicard is a Hero and I am so shocked and sad right now.
I'm serious considering abaddon STT and never looking back...
the game has some terrible ui features. finding items in inventory is almost impossible. when two items have the same avatar it's very difficult to tell them apart when replicating, scrolling across the ship screens with no scroll bar takes forever, you can't tell how many duplicate crew you have frozen, etc.
the iap tool solved these in game flaws. it did what the game should have done. it's sad that a solo programmer was able to give a more feature rich interface than the company did, but that's what happened.
i support iap.
I would like to see DisruptorBeam add "estimated percent chance to succeed" to gauntlet battles, as well as "tap to skip the animation". Please. Please please.
IAP was actually worse than my paranoid x2.5 approach. Well, I try to go for 30-70 streaks hoping they might give another **tsk tsk**... and then I got my first from a 7 x 2 star drop after it ended this weekend.
Once a streak fails, I could use IAP but switching apps just isn't worth it.
Besides, who cares about top positions, I just want my last 10 4 star crew FFFE
(and the tsk tsk is an intentional misspelling of our current Gauntlet "hero - which after editing now spells out - maybe the forum is made by DB as well??? )
Makes it easy to determine who your top 5 for each skill are.
That is weird. Had Tech I KNOW I redeemed in an Event in the Pirate game I play "disappear". Wonder what causes things like that.
Your not for a tool to help with the game but you ARE for certain parts of said tool to become part of the game? Odd and contradictory at the same time...
Most unfair way to have discourse.
Facts and whatnot.
We have reached full-on “playing chess with a pigeon” territory. Way to go!
For my part, I am bummed to see it go but my entire game experience isn’t ruined. It will take more time to find the best voyage crew, it will take more time to run gauntlet battles, and I will probably give up on trying to export data to figure out where weaknesses are in my crew. Annoying, sure. Disheartening, yes. Complete ruination? No. Then again, I have time others don’t and feel more comfortable with eyeballing voyage selections than many.
It would be really great for DB to introduce some of the things IAP was good at into the game itself but that’s not going to happen...and if it did, it would likely be bungled as badly as the review process, Yargate, Picardgate, etc.
What dB should do is buy out the iampicard owner and introduce it to their game
In theory, introducing new functionality to the client would be the best step. However, DB has demonstrated, and past employees have stated, they are pretty helpless with a lot of the base code. That's why the fleet leaderboards couldn't be implemented in game, that's why every new fix breaks something else.
IAP did however provide substantial event advantages, just not everyone knew or was using them. The issues were reported to DB, and any direct mention of them is removed (understandably).
Not everyone has been around since day 1 and has the resources to throw several thousand dollars at the game. Just sayin...
I Used the IAMPICARD TOOL never had a need to try and get it to interact with actual game but have tried using other spreadsheets and for the most part they are useless unless you have a computer degree. I do not agree that IAMPICARD is anything more than a useful tool to make inventory and crew better available to view and make the game more enjoyable.
Too bad there was no version for mobile devices...
Do we really need a tool for decisions in a quite simple game like STT? Do you need a tool that tells you which clothes you shall choose in the morning?
And as others mentioned already the problem with the tool were not the 95% of the players who used it as supposed, the problem were the 5% who found something and had suddenly big advantages in events and voyages.
I had never used the tool, either, until a few days ago. I thought I'd give it a go just to see what it was like, in case it was removed permanently and I lost the opportunity.
I can see how there was some quite useful stuff in there for newer players, but in terms of "decisions", like spacing duplicates or selecting Voyage crew, it wasn't helping me at all. I was looking forward to seeing what sort of Voyage crew suggestions it made in future, to see if it did help at all, but for the two days I had access to IAP, I overrode its suggestions and selected my own crew.
Gauntlet suggestions didn't help me at all, either. I can see how some people might think it may help to simply have the highest win % proffered at the top of a list, but Gauntlet (surprisingly) goes a lot deeper than that.
But being able to click through a Gauntlet match-up instantly was brilliant. That was a definite improvement. I don't mind playing Gauntlet generally, and don't mind having to continue with the old version, but skipping those animations was joyful.
And having a tool to tell me how many replications each day was nice, too - but should really be in the main game, and the fact that it hasn't been added as we approach the third Convergence Day is absolutely unbelievable. (Although with the splits/damage done to the community over the past week, I'm wondering if "Divergence Day" mightn't be more appropriate!)
I'm sorry you didn't get to use the tool, Múspell, because I had much the same idea as you before I tried it. But in my experience, having actually tried IAP, it didn't affect any of my game decisions.
The thing is however that you probably or often didn't find the best crew. Ignorance is bliss. I know for a fact that, before the tool that I didn't. It gave he thoughts, ideas, revelations, insights and so on.
There are thousands of players, i'd expect, that have a blinkered approach to the game and find it fun and fulfilling. This is a good thing but its not what all players want.
-the ability to weed out the crap items you get off dabo, i am to close to the existing item limit as it is ... (thanks DB!)
- You can set voyages easily , most of the times i have to send voyages in the morning before going to work, i simply don't have the time to calculate it all to send it out as it is .
The web interface worked just fine on my phone. I didn’t realize there was a Mac version...I just assumed there wasn’t one as is the case for so many things.
Play long enough and you'll find the integer limit for individual items...trainers and starbase components are how I found that for myself. Some have done it with ship schematics as well, I do believe.
That limit doesn’t bother me - it’s hard to achieve with items that are actually useful and doesn’t hamper the game experience in any way. The secret 1000-unique-types-of-items limit is a real problem. Thankfully we have the replicator to help cut down on it, though it is a monstrous PITA to actually do so and the arbitrary limit has already claimed a lot of high-value items from a number of people because there is no warning. No sticky post, no in-game warning in the tutorial or elsewhere, just “hey, where did my legendary citations go?” It’s unconscionable that this has persisted as long as it has.
