Day 1 player, VIP 14 player. Never used Iampicard, and I am able to do gauntlets and voyages pretty darn well. I have my own spreadsheet on Google Docs that I use to keep track of my characters. I'm able to finish any event I want under 1k without an outside program like Iampicard. While the game is far from perfect in its interface, no addons are necessary to be able to succeed.
For all of you with the skills and time to do this, fabulous. I think a more refined way to read the comments of those calling the tool "necessary" is that it is necessary for them to feel like they can effectively play the game against people like the quoted poster. Some dedicated players with their own tools will feel that is unfair, which I understand, but if I owned the game I would want the broadest audience possible to be able to enjoy and compete in it to maximize revenue. If it gets to a point where you have to maintain your own spreadsheets to play the game effectively, DB will lose many casual players because of that. (VIP 14 player and IamPicard tool user).
I never used the tool, because for me is the most interesting part of the game to find the best crew for events, gauntlet and voyages by myself.
The thing is however that you probably or often didn't find the best crew. Ignorance is bliss. I know for a fact that, before the tool that I didn't. It gave he thoughts, ideas, revelations, insights and so on.
There are thousands of players, i'd expect, that have a blinkered approach to the game and find it fun and fulfilling. This is a good thing but its not what all players want.
I know that I will not always find the best crew , but I don`t care. It doesn`t matter to me. I want to play with the crew I like, e.g.I rarely use Mirror Picard or Mirror Data because they are not a part of "my" Star Trek Universe, I could have a better crew with them in some events or gauntlets but I don`t care. But thats only my way to play. And of course I accept that other people want to play in their way.
But in the end the tool is not necessary for to play, thousands of players are the proove for that.
All of these reasons and more. The game's interface is awful and you could be forgiven for thinking it was purposefully designed to annoy and/or cause pain to the user. The only use of the IamP tool that I ever used was for searching my inventory so that I knew what items I was short on and needed to farm or what items I had that were useless and could be throw into the replicator, although even doing that was an arduous process since actually using the replicator required navigating the in-game's horrible inventory system. I also used it to calculate voyages since it was the best tool for the job. The other tools that exist are slower (since a lot of the math is still done manually) and not quite as accurate. Finally, I used it to run my gauntlets since the in-game gauntlet interface is also just as awful. I went 6 months without doing a single gauntlet round and then the tool came out and I was doing my gauntlet daily again and actually having fun.
The truth of the matter is that I spent a total of no more than 10 minutes per day using the IamP tool. I only started voyages (I never used the dilemma picker because I didn't trust it), run gauntlets (never to collect, I also didn't trust that), maintain my inventory, and quickly browse A UNIFIED FACTION STORE for rarer items I could buy. That's covers 99.9% of my uses of the thing, but those functions are essential and the game does not provide them in a reasonable manner, if at all.

OP I don’t know if this is possible but if you can edit your post title I would suggest you do so, lest you get another dozen condescending and willfully obtuse comments about your use of the word necessary. Best not to give the high-and-mighty anti-IAmPicard excel-spreadsheet purists more reasons to spam these threads with pats on their own backs!

Hand entering info into a spreadsheet is exactly like a program automatically parsing info from the game?
But you are right about the title. It's been more than proved it is NOT "necessary"

Dude, seriously, get a grip. Your histrionics on every thread are way over the top, it’s starting to look like we’ve found one of the users that harassed the IamPicard developer.

Some of you may well remember that I have long complained about the game more and more tedious. The IamPicard tool helped with that a lot. The game gets more and more complex , that is good, more things to do and so on. But organization of things in this game is lacking to say the least.
- ship management is crap. I can't remember all the ships I have and what level they are.
- crew roster search is just so much better and easier.
- crew duplicate management is literally 3 clicks away.
- even if if it wasn't implement properly yet. Unecessary item search is possible (yes possible, in-game search of said items are nigh impossible).
- nr of daily replications is show!
- gauntlet help in the tool is meh, badly sorted so I myself have not used it much.
- voyage setup was so much easier, I am lucky if I remember to click dilemas during the day so I can finally collect/recall before going to bed. Spending hand an hour before work or at work to set up a voyage is not possible for me and I assume a lot of other people. I have a large roster I worked hard to get. Not sending voyages results in slacking . Slacking will result in me ignoring the game even more and then eventually stop all together.
Getting back to my starting idea, I am sure that this doesn't help a lot of people with their burnout when it come to this game.

Come on man...don't you know the modern PC culture SJW argument tactic? If you disagree with them, you must be guilty and a "bad guy". Nevermind that they get to argue and disagree as much as they like. I guarantee you they reply to this message with an argument. Even when I dare them RIGHT HERE they won't be able to help themselves. It is a sickness.

This is like a bad Thanksgiving dinner, except there are no potatoes that you can ask to have passed over to you in the hopes that everyone will just latch on to that and ignore the previous remarks.

Don’t let them poison the threads with their politics. This is a discussion about what is useful about the iampicard app. Let the moderators deal with ad hominems as they occur individually.

For someone who claims he doesn't care about IAP, you seem to have a lot of negative things to say about it. Also histrionics does seem to apply to many of your posts.
But being able to click through a Gauntlet match-up instantly was brilliant. That was a definite improvement. I don't mind playing Gauntlet generally, and don't mind having to continue with the old version, but skipping those animations was joyful.
I've been lurking and reading during all of this IAP controversy, but statements like this one continually raises a question with me. How did the IAP tool trigger a gauntlet execution in STT, causing it to skip the animations? Or did it execute the gauntlet round completely within its own UI, bypassing STT altogether, using the STT server API.

The animations are client side only. The server calculates / RNGs the result immediately. The animations on the winning score always magically hit the top of the score bar, because the server and the client already know the scores when the animation commences. Simples.

Yorkster is correct, but your last line is the summary. IamPicard bypasses the DB supplied client completely for everything. It talks directly to the STT server API for everything. You didn't even need the DB STT client installed on the device.

This is not true, you can't send shuttles or claim the rewards of a voyage from IAmPicard.
You won, stop spreading **tsk tsk**.
You had to play the game. You couldn’t send shuttles, collect daily rewards, collect Voyages, collect fleet rewards, open packs etc. The idea that it replaced the client is obviously silly.
But it got me to actually do these things on my second account. Don’t log into it nearly as often now, and don’t play Gauntlet on it at all. (The Gauntlet stuff on IAP wasn’t actually very good, I did better without it, but the simplicity of the design made it more appealing). I was only a recent convert so I don’t know how long these effects would have lasted, but I definitely see losing IAP as net worse for the community as a whole and DB. And DB probably knew that would be the case and that might explain their slowness in providing guidance on it.

ON THE DEVICE. I wasn't saying you didn't need the client. I was saying, IAmPicard did not use the client. You could run IamPicard on a windows computer, and then play the game on your android phone. That's all I was saying. Stop twisting my words to attack me just because you're upset the developer pulled the app.
