Position?

I apologize in advance since I am sure this has been explained previously, but when you search by position, you gets LOTS of responses that have nothing to do with my question. Who knew that the word "position" is so popular.

How does the ship trait "position" impact battles? I get boarding and cloak, but position isn't really spelled out anywhere. I guess if they get position (behind you) they get better hits?

Position is a weird term. It's always felt like a placeholder term to me and someone forgot to replace it before that went live.
