Do you think we will ever get something new and dynamic in the game?

The skirmish type event was the last new thing. The campaign (even though new) is just another loot collection and DB money earner, you really don't do anything. Episode 10 is interesting, I appreciate the extension of the storyline, but it is more of the same. (My hopes were dashed when the first away mission tree was 7 nodes, but this pattern was no longer followed) I do not collect crew. I got a solid grouping of crew and can finish top15 in any galaxy event if I am willing to sacrifice time. I do not have any suggestions, but I am willing to deal with game downtime if DB needed to go offline for a few days for a major code revamp to facilitate a game change.

After Erin left DB at the start of the year they were looking for a game director to take this game to the next level. So who knows!?
I also would not mind a considerable downtime if it leads to something nice...
My own view is that I'm not too eager for anything "new and dynamic". After all, I'm playing a game based on a TV franchise that hit it's peak 25 years ago (sorry Discovery fans, but it's true). If i really wanted new things then I wouldn't still be watching reruns of TNG and DS9. There's very few shows that are even comparable to 1990's Trek (Firefly and SG1 certainly made a good go of it) so I don't feel the game needs upgrading with some overly elaborate new form of gameplay, I enjoy it as it is.
They don't happen over night. They usually happen one or two at a time. Do I think they'll add the type of feature that you want? Yes. Do I think it will happen this calendar year? Probably not, considering what is on their plate.
My recommendation is to think about this thing you want. Bring it to the forum. Other players can pitch in ideas to flesh out your proposal. At least then you'll have something to point to and say, "Hey DB, we want something new and here's an idea."
Personally, I have proposed a voyage event idea and a PvE gauntlet event idea. Now, they may not be as dynamic as what you have in mind, but my thoughts were to make them relatively easy to program. I don't know if anyone has suggested anything as significant as what you propose. Maybe if you can bring something here and get some support from the community, we can help you drive some change.
The only event type that came close to demanding the full use of a player's roster were Expeditions, which of course have another whole set of issues. A Voyages event type where you could send out multiple ships with their own crews would also provide meaning to a deep shipyard as well. Possibly something along the lines of: Send out a fleet of up to 5 ships to collect a new rare resource X, which you dump into the threshold. Run out of Antimatter, loose the so far collected X. Event crew provides additional Antimatter, or extra collected X. Players would have to strategize whether to put all eggs into one basket, or to spread out their crews for an even distribution. For DB, monetization would result from revives, instant callbacks and the sale of Voyage revival tokens and possibly insta recall tokens.
I'd actually posted a whole thread a while ago on my proposal for a voyage event:
https://forum.disruptorbeam.com/stt/discussion/4377/how-to-implement-a-voyage-event#latest
Key mechanic #1: VP are won by successfully avoiding hazards and passing dilemmas. VP can scale up as the hazard gets more difficult. This way the greatest impact to getting VP is the strength of the crew, not necessarily just the dil bought. You can extend voyages, but at some point, all you are getting is the dilemma VP. RNG is introduced by the variation of the hazards.
Key mechanic #2: 4 voyage boosts can be added to each voyage. Skill boosts act as expected, boosting all crew with corresponding skill. Time boosts reduce the recall time of the voyage. Reward boosts up the drop rate of vp from hazards, but add time to the recall of the voyage.
The combination of these start to provide tons of strategies and a way to monetize the event as well. Do I put reward boosts on and counter them with time boosts, or depending on when night is coming, i could put reward and skill boosts on and time the recall to the evening, or I could put skill and time boosts on to increase the number of voyages. If I am a whale, I put 5* reward and 5* skill boosts on and use DIL to recall the voyages.
Some other tweaks:
- Event crew get the typical 3X and 2X stat boosts
- Ship and crew traits are aligned with event crew
- You could even have event ships with increased AM
- The dilemmas themselves would event story specific (re-writing the log would be a bit much probably)
Other ideas:
- Have the dilemma drop tables include the event crew, or equipment at some %
- Perhaps even have a way to get a gold by having multi part dilemmas that could drop them
I don't want to tip my hand too much, but I've been working behind the scenes for quite a while crafting ideas, hashing out crude details, and organizing my thoughts on how to put it all together, but I can say this much: much of what you have expressed here and quite a bit more are currently in my mental workshop and when completed will be presented here for all to see. I am currently up to 22 ideas for either improvements, new features, new additions, and "other" concepts, so stay tuned.
This is why I said above, "Yes, we will," because most of the things I intend to propose will be fairly simple to adopt and will add a lot of depth and enrichment to the existing experience, and I am confident at least some of them will be put into practice.
(I am sorry for the delay in this project, but my "process" is such that I let my subconscious work on these things in the background while I do day-to-day stuff, and at some point I'll get the nudge that I'm ready and on that day I'll just sit down and churn out a 30 page document)
@[TFA] GTMET (DB - Do Better) , your key mechanic #1 would have been an improvement to my version of the idea. Well said, my friend.
- cadet missions that give more chrons
- events! you could do stuff! with shuttles! and then galaxy and expeditions!
- PVP arena to blast at each other
- gauntlet to use the crew with bad base stats that were unused
- honor as rewards instead of trainers or credits
- THE VAULT to free up crew slots
- fleet rewards, to give us even moar chrons and honor
- the replicator to let us use up junk
- voyages, which give EVEN MOAR chrons AND honor and the last stars you need on 4* crew
- skirmishes, which even MOAR EVEN MOAR chrons and honor
- achievements, which were free stuff for normal gameplay
- collections, which were even more free stuff for well beyond normal gameplay
- most recently, campaigns, which is basically the $10 monthly card some of us have been asking for since the beginning
were you around when EACH of those was "new and dynamic" at the time it was introduced?
That is the plan, and you can rest assured, I've come up with two ideas for Tuesdays, and a third that could be adapted for Tuesdays.
With Discovery ending up in the 34th Century and in the Beta Quadrant, there could easily be some new stuff coming from that. But that is still on the 'norm' for our daily gameplay.
Personally I would love to see this go to a game console [PS4/XBox] crossover where we could actually perform our Away missions by controlling the crew in various aspects, and the Arena could have a LOT more control over the ships abilities and controls, which would make for phenomenal battles.
All this tied into our dailies...
Then they could add Squad vs Squad battles with multiple ships, and the Gauntlet would be EXTREME, giving players chance to choose weapons, arenas on different planetscapes, and actually have the combats be controlled by the players.
Just some brain candy to ponder.
Captain Level: 95
VIP Level: 12
Unique Crew Immortalized: 525
Collections Completed: Vulcan, Ferengi, Borg, Romulan, Cardassian, Uncommon, Rare, Veteran, Common, Engineered, Physician, Innovator, Inspiring, Diplomat, Jury Rigger, Gauntlet Legends
YES! I can't believe after such a great release people still want to complain! I normally don't care at all about new missions, Episode 9 had no reason for me to complete it at all except for captain experience and I think a couple of more efficient farming missions. Episode 10's story expansion, good writing, amazing prizes, I have been so happy!
This would be fantastic. To open up the gamma, beta, and delta quadrants and implant some of the species therein. There would be new episodes in each quadrant, and perhaps weekly events could be set in the different quadrants. Bonuses could be given to species from that particular quadrant during the event.... perhaps they could stack atop the trait bonuses.
Some good ideas in this thread. I’d be happy to see any new additions to the game. I just hope they keep it growing and evolving.
I was and have been! While I think a new game feature would be totally awesome, Over just the last year the game improvements have been great. I’ll always toast new additions, but we really have come along way since the start.
An incredibly bizarre statement given all the new things that have been added in the past year. Speaking as someone who has played since launch day, the game today is night and day different now, in a good way.
Remember the days of no quick build where you had to build every component manually for a gold level 100 item? Yeah.
Tour of duty: January 2016 to present.
Shut up Wesley.
I think - and please someone correct me if I'm wrong - that they're talking about stuff that's more than a QoL improvement or tweaks. Quick build is great, but it's not different. Even the much hoped for inventory management improvements (additions?) that everyone asks for would be mostly QoL and not a new aspect of game play. There's definitely lots of things that could make life easier and make the game more enjoyable in that way, but I understood the OP as looking for something like a new game mode.
We have shuttles, away missions, ship battles, voyages, the gauntlet. We have events, campaigns, and the dailies that give a different spin to some of those. Are there plans to add to either of those categor - especially the first imo - or are the overall mechanics going to stay as what we have right now, with maybe some tweaks here and there?
(FTR, I am perfectly content with where the game is now - I've only FFFE two legendaries; I've got a lot of work ahead of me before I get where I'm running out of things to do. I almost don't want any massive change *because* I still have so much to do as it is.)
Personally i would like it if DB went back to all portions of the game and fixed the longstanding- much reported bugs, glitches, and crashes before introducing new things.
Then work on upgrades we have asked for in other threads. Like starbase additions, new collections, balancing dismissal honor vs honor hall cost,........ many upgrades or changes to existing portions of the game have been repeatedly suggested. Those things that players have asked for should be attended to first.
Then make something new, after longstanding requests and glitches have been addressed.
Edit: from the beginning this has been a card/version collecting game. Thats is what gets veterans excited is new and multiple versions of crew. Sorry If thats not your preference.
Add to "Cadet Challenges" – "Officer Training". 3* crew on weekdays, 4* crew on weekends, higher difficulty, but higher rewards. Could mix things up a bit.
This kind of goes with our ideas on splitting up the gauntlet into levels like the area battles.
I don't think the important improvements have been steady. Most of the game development happened in the first 18 months or so. The last 18 months have been a bit of a wasteland. Voyages were the most recent system added, and we are *long* overdue another one.
Gauntlet is a rubbish system desperately in need of an overhaul, something DB admitted over a year ago.
The skirmish event was a step in the right direction but wasn't a new system, was more of a replacement for Expeditions which have been mostly retired now. So we still only have 4 event types (generously including hybrid as a type).
Campaigns, whilst a welcome edition was more a revamp of game monetisation than any special game system as all it did was iterate dailies. Similarly collections and achievements. No core system has been upgraded in a long time.
Don't get me wrong QoL improvements and iterations and extensions of existing systems are welcome, but they are not serious game development.
This is not to attack the game as a whole, it's still fun and I have high engagement with it, but serious development has all but stopped it seems. I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but this game is a stagnant pool at the moment.
This is related to other suggestions long ago. But would entirely handy-cap newer players. Maybe just make tue be 4* day. And Exchange tue repetitive reward to honor.
Alot of ppl have alot of ideas. But we also need to balance working ppl, new ppl, veterans, and fix broken or outdated portions like glitches and gauntlet before creating entirely new things.
So again i would like to see more interesting tue cadets, and then fixes and upgrades to whats already active before entirely new programming.
New stuff just for the sake of being new isnt always better.
And as far as comments on the slow down of rollouts for new aspects maybe that is bcuz every new thing was rolled out too fast without testing and was broken or malfunctioning. I take the slowdown as a sign maybe DB is trying to make sure things work correctly. Im fine with that. I would rather have it work properly so that we can keep playing than have errors or crashes every time you want to log in.
