Time for Amanda Rogers?

I got my 7th Guinan this week, which I attribute to a mixture of some parts strategy and some parts RNG. Some fleetmates have FF'd Gunian while others are still working for their first. I think we are approaching (if we haven't already passed) the point that Gunian has been a reward longer than Lotus. So, is it time for a new reward and, if so, who (besides Amanda whom I consider being the obvious choice, DB cough cough)?

    Tsunkatse Seven or GTFO.

    EDIT:
To add something useful, according to the wiki, Locutus was the reward 2/14/2017 until 6/5/2017 (111 days).

Guinan started as reward 6/6/2017 to present, which is 150 days. So Guinan has been in there 35% longer than Locutus was already (and still counting).

Not sure that level of one off is Gauntlet worthy, but I understand the sentiment. (She's more recognizable than Kortar for sure though)

(Which means she's be perfect for the mega 5* for a Q event which would be 7 kinds of awesome.)

We've had two REALLY iconic characters. Locutus on the one hand is a two-parter one off, but then is a major factor in the First Contact Movie.
Guinan had pivotal supporting roles in eps like Yesterdays Enterprise and the movie Generations.

Almost anyone after both of them feels like a recipe for a letdown, and a lot of the really iconic folks are already in game.

Sarah Sisko? Still on the obscure level..

Though I'm not in favor of it, I'm almost betting they're planning a MB from Disco.
  • Congrats! I have a question about your strategy andwas she always in the vault or mixed (highest chance?).
So my strategy is, if I'm unable to reach the 1st place, I try to reach 11th - 15th. I'm on my 5th Guinan (The 3rd and 4th came very close together, within a week).

What strategy nets you 7 Gunanans? I have won Gauntlet several times, regularly finish in the top 10, have had streaks of over 50 and all I get are poxy green trainers.

Really they should have brought out MB for the Discovery Mega event if they were going to do that. I'm against any already released characters as the Gauntlet is a chance to get something special, though the RND kind of **tsk tsk** if you are unlucky enough to have not had her yet.

I'd like to see Harry Mudd from TOS or Chancellor Gorkon,

Not saying it will be the same one, may just be another 5* variant.

Regarding strategy, I tend to start about 12 hours after my gauntlet ends. I find that more casual players are in my gauntlet when I do so (your mileage may vary depending on time zones, etc). I use the Google Sheet (Crew 100) that Peachtree Rex put together to start my crew selection. While I do factor 45/65 percent crit into crew selection, I tend to dismiss 25 percent crit crew as, in my experience, they are far less reliable. I do favor the featured skill but ensure that I have balance across all skills and featured skill combinations. If applicable I do try to work in some of the less populated combos (ie ENG/*).

From there, I don't focus on rank. I find it takes care of itself. Instead, I focus on streaks and opening as many boxes a possible. I really don't care about my standing until the final refresh or two. I just pick off the easiest/low trophy opponent I can. If my next win is a box, I just pick the closest opponent to a "sure thing." A streak of 80 or 90 isn't uncommon. I try to midgate my risks.

I have one Guinan from the top tier boxes but the other six came from lower streak boxes. As such, my goal is to just open as many boxes as possible, which means playing as many individual rounds as possible. To date, I have played over 8800 gauntlet rounds. It's really just a blunt force approach. I figure if I open 10000 boxes and you open 3000 boxes, I have a significantly higher chance of getting Guinan than you. Does that make sense?

A lot of RNG here. I use a good amount of merits to refresh to more favorable matches (particularly when the next win is a box). And, I collect Gauntlet crew. I find that only having to have a crew member at 1/5 players to compete is better to my style.

Far from the only strategy, but just the one I've found success with.

Thank you for your advice Matt...like someone above I play Gauntlet religiously and I have never received Guinan, usually just chrons or green or blue equipment. I haven't even received a purple anything there. I'll try your strategy.
  • I use almost an identical strategy to Matt. I'm at 3500 gauntlet rounds and 4 Guinan. All of my Guinan are from streaks.

I'm at 6200 gauntlet rounds and one Guinan for what it's worth.

8000 rounds and two Guinans (and two Locuti FWIW). I don't employ any specific streak strategy, I go for points because I just want the end boxes.

I do think maximizing boxes is a superior strategy, I just get more frustrated if I'm actively trying to maintain a streak, so I modified my strategy so I get less irritated at the inevitable <5% performances.
  • I'd prefer to see someone that's less obscure. Maybe Commander Shelby?
  • I highly doubt there is any strategy for winning Guinan.... as mentioned by others I have won gauntlets and otherwise always rank in the top 15 and I have yet to receive one.

It's not a strategy of winning her, perse, it's a strategy for maximizing your probability of winning her. It's still an RNG crap-shoot, but there ARE things you can do to improve your chances.

  • I think the next one should be either The Pendari champion, Thot Pran, Spot, Porthos, The Emissary or Captain Archer

  • I think that they should have saved Admiral Kirk for the Gauntlet. How about Captain Spock?

You describe exactly what I've been doing since about the first month into the gauntlet, when Locutus was offered ...
I think it's a HUGE RNG factor ... as I have yet to find a single Locutus, nor Guinan ... and as I said, you describe what I've accomplished for the last (roughly) year exactly .. O.o

Thats the exact strategy i use but what i find most interesting is that I have never gotten the rare gauntlet reward from an end rank box. Got my first guinan on a 33 streak (got the double up offer), 3rd on a streak of 9, and my 4th on a streak of 3 (figured I'd ff her by getting her double up offer). Never got locutus from gauntlet (got him on my first rejoin the collective pull a while back and fully equipped him quicker than you can say 'borg') but I was trying for a better rank then, next time he comes around I'll use reverse psychology (like I did with guinan), when I want chrons I get Guinan, When I want Guinan I get blue trainers so I'll be in a constant state of wanting chrons. Back to the topic of this post  I do agree that Amanda Rodgers (with skills of SCI, ENG, and MED) would be the perfect change out for guinan.

They probably won't give her that.
I foresee it being SCI/DIP/MED or some variant of that order.

My one Guinan came from the two Boxes I got for placing, after a Gauntlet was over. Just to put that info out there.

  • This crap is what is wrong with STT and DB RNG. I'm at 3,350 completed gauntlet rounds. 1st place finish 3 times. Top 10 and top 20 finish dozens of times. Over 21 streaks dozens and dozens of times.
ZERO Locutus, ZERO Guinan. Like this dude is saying, he has 7 Guinans, and probably has a FF Locutus as well. Where others that have similar success in gauntlet have NOTHING. Its bordering on statistically impossible for this to occur without secret DB percentages that are different for different people.

    My Locutus is 1/5.
It's also worth noting that I've played 3 times as many gauntlet rounds as you. I usually place first or second in my gauntlet and my streaks often extend into the 50s and 60s. But, I am sorry about your luck.

I am in the same position, played gauntlet since it came out, never ranked first but 2nd a few times, never got Locutus or Guinan... pesky RNG
