I get all of the threshold rewards, then I'm done.
It depends on the event really. I tend to just play to get the full Thresholds if I can apart from in factions where I can't get near the top threshold rewards generally. If I really like a character that is a reward rather than threshold and I think I've a chance of getting them, I'll go full in for the event.

Depends on whether the event offers something I want or am interested in. I blew off the entire Discovery mega-event, because I have about as much interest in ST:D as another Wesley character appearing in the game. Any ST:D character that drops is airlocked just as fast as I can get the screen open to do it.
My answer to this is "it depends". I always play faction events, and have come to terms with the higher than expected failure rate being due to incorrectly displayed success rates that seem to be caused by s being improperly inflated when boosts are applied, where one or more of the crew in the slots with skills affected by the boost don't actually have the skill being boosted. By playing around this, the actual success rate now is more in line with expectations. It helps that the current and last event matched up well with my crew, and applying the kickstart is absolutely key.
As for galaxy events, they are a waste of chrons and resources once you play past a certain point, and I tend to throttle down once I hit that point. I may play on if I want the character included in the threshold or ranked rewards, but it is event specific. I also tend to put more effort into it if if it's a hybrid event.
As for expeditions, it's been nearly a year since the last full blown expedition that I participated in, so I have no comment on them, except to say that my recollection of that one event was that it was tedious, and not a whole lot of fun. Especially when you critted the mission, and the rare reward didn't drop. Uhhh...
I always finish my events, unless I dislike the crew offered - like the event we just put behind our backs. The torchbearer is a discount T'Kuvma, and Anbo Riker is a discount Torchbearer. All in all, mediocre crew - the only positive thing about his event was that O'Brien was in the tiered rewards, so whoever scored 130k VP and stopped there (like me) still got the better part of the deal.
I **tsk tsk** at shuttle events since I can't reliably send them out every three hours. For those I usually do enough to get the threshold purple to 2/4 then use daily card dilithium for an event pack. If that gets the 2/4 to 3/4 I push through to the top threshold copy to make it 4/4.
I did much better in galaxy events. I could play when I felt like it and as long as I didn't go more than 12 hours my chronos weren't full so there was no reason to play more often. Doing that I could make the top 1000 and get the gold plus both purples 4/4 when I was willing to put in the effort. Voyages killed that though. Much like I can't do shuttles every three hours for their events I can't clear voyage dilemmas every two hours so I don't get nearly as many extra chronos from voyages as some people do so I can no longer come anywhere near the top 1000. Now I clear the threshold prizes for the 3/4 purple and get it to 4/4 from the community rewards.
If its a repeat event forget all that. If I got the threshold purple to 2/4 or 3/4 the first time I finish getting it to 4/4 and I'm done with the event. If I have it 4/4 from the first time I have an event free weekend.
I'll play all faction events and go hard if I want the crew. Faction doesn't really cost anything and not much time to send out shuttles so why not. For hybrid events I play the faction portion but either sit out the galaxy or only play just enough to reach my goal, top 1k or 2k depending on the crew. For galaxy it really depends on the crew and if I've been able to restock since the last one. Sometimes I punt and sometimes I just play through the threshold. I've also placed second over all in a galaxy going all in. I play expedition but they can be tedious and are super easy, never really gone all in on an expedition.
I always play the whole event. Faction I push through the whole time. Galaxy I usually aim for something, like this week I just wanted 3 rikers to ff him. No interest in the legendary. I think Orion slave event I needed only one slaver so I got 2500-3000.
The events are much easier now than they used to be. I didn’t break 1000 until 3 months ago so I’m still enjoying finally getting over the hump. I’m also an admiral and squad leader so it wouldn’t make sense for me to slack off.
DB continues to run Galaxy events because people who spend just try to buy their copy of the character instead of playing the event, so they don't have to go through the misery that is known as Galaxy events.
I sit at least half of galaxy events
Hybrids same as many others ... rank as high as possible in the faction part and coast to a top 1k from there.
Expeditions - will ALWAYS play.
DB - please bring back the original expedition ruleset but with the critical ruleset (any crit unlocks the star). Don't bring back the unlocked nodes, that ruleset was awful. (so, copy the Waitress Ezri/TuxOdo event but add the guaranteed crits)
For a long time after the first two, I almost ignored galaxy events, sometimes crafting only a single recipe to get community rewards. When the hybrid events started, I would only play the first half. Then there must have been a character I wanted, so I tried and realized that it was easy to get the threshold 4* FF (not possible for me in the early galaxy events). Then there must have been a rank 4* I wanted, and I went in on that.
With voyages, galaxy events are a bit harder and much more competitive. I aimed to get 4* Riker FF in the last event because I thought it would be fairly easy, but it was not. Once I was spending chrons to get him, however, I didn't give up, and I was successful. So I know I can do it, but unless I really like a character, I think I'm going back to only getting the threshold reward and bowing out because it's just too much work now.
I get all of the threshold rewards, then I'm done.
Everybody's got great points that pretty much mirror mine.
Generally all of faction events because they don't cost anything and the time's not that bad. Though RNGeeses screwing you in the beginning and the faulty success display rates are quite irksome and may lead me to bow out once I've got 4/4 of the threshold.
Hybrids, Faction, then coast to top 1k. But with a lot of these 5* lately, not even that, cost to 2k.
Galaxys, boy do I hate these events. I used to one recipe and done. Sometimes I get the last threshold where it starts to cost more chrons than the rewards give you (including the cost of previously stockpiled items), sometimes I get the 3rd card threshold and let the community FF it. Especially with voyages and the refusal to update the rewrd tables though the player base is many times larger, I practically never care to rank anything. In fact, the last galaxy event, just getting the threshold for O'Brien was way worse than 8-5 work, I may never galaxy again. And please, enough of these darn animations.
Expeditions, well, I'm not sure they still exist. It's easy enough to burn through all your tickets, but it is insanely tedious to do so. The only good part is after 3 runs or so, you have the crew and their use order down, so tickets only take 15 minutes of painful work each.
So, we're left with, boy, events are getting more boring every passing day, feeling more and more like the worst parts of my day job, and we're not even getting particularly decent crew very often, something needs to change.
Time for a new event type. Not a hybrid "new", but something actually different. And if DB is out of ideas, many have been pitched on the forums, just steal one, or I've got a couple ideas that could, gasp, even use the fleet.

So long and thanks for all the fish.
