That was one of the first after they added the 10x portal as a community reward. There was also an outage during the event and confusion if the target needed to be reached by the end of phase one or the whole event.
When I first started playing a little over 3 years ago, I can recall some events where the community awards weren't all achieved. As a new player, missing out on a premium 10x pack was gut-wrenching! lol

To be honest, between monthly campaigns and bimonthly mega-events, I've kinda lost interest in competing for 1/5's in events. That, in turn, has dampened my interest in event rankings, which in turn has dampened my interest in events. To be clear: The solution to this malaise is NOT to stop campaigns or mega-events! It's to use new mechanisms to recirculate other 5*'s more regularly so we don't take for granted they'll languish in need of stars for the rest of our days as players.

Unless you already have an army of 1/5's. If you have something like 150-200 legendaries that aren't fully fused then your odds of adding a star become pretty good.
I just let my super rares carry me (almost) to threshold, was a bit miffed I had to get 10k from phase 2. But just glad I don't need to do anything further because I have taken a bit of a chroniton beating these last weeks.

Yeah I won't tell a lie I over spent on chronitons expecting (rather foolishly) a similar chroniton recoup to skirmishes, man I was sooooo wrong about that. But also I didn't win Kira 1st time round and Riker wasn't doing it for me.

Oh, I still need a whole lot of stars on x/5's. Up through the last portal update in August, I was still keen on 5* Beholds with Honor. Since then, though, I've had a dozen beholds in which my choices were all crew I didn't already have and who didn't really interest me, either. I'm in favor of 86'ing unwanted crew, including 5*'s, and I have done that on occasion. "I'm okay not keeping this 5*" is not an especially inspiring motivation for competing for a 5* behold in an event.

I can confirm that this was the case farther down in the ranks as well - I had a super busy weekend with a friend visiting from out of town and didn’t make it much past 100k VP...still ended up in the top 8000.
