Completely agree with this. Crew slots are a big deal for new players. A lot of pressure relief dil would go a looong way.
I don’t disagree that it would fundamentally change the dynamic of the game. It most certainly would. But I also think it would make the game more appealing to newer players, and that is an issue that SERIOUSLY needs to be addressed imo.

I’ve come to realize the later you come into the game, the more problematic crew slots are going to be. I recently retired an account I’d played for a year. There were multiple reasons for it, but chief among them was the constant battle with crew slots. By comparison, managing crew slots on my main account definitely had challenging moments, but nowhere near the challenge it was on my second account. I think it’s much more problematic for newer players now than a lot of veteran players realize. Just my $.02.

We had time to accumulate 1-4* crew as they came out and get them in the freezer once that was added. It’s been a long time since I had to really worry about slots, in the days when I kept throwing back every Ambassador Fox I got, or when I had to bite the bullet and say goodbye to Rianna Mayweather and my third FF Captain Janeway. If I run low now, I just pick the immortal 5* crew I use the least and put them on ice for a while until I can clear more space or need them for an event.
