Please reconsider Lenara Khan as the 5* for a Pride month campaign
She is an anti-Pride character. In that episode, she ends up embracing cultural conformity and rejecting Jadzia’s love. That’s the opposite of what TP is ostensibly claiming to celebrate! Also, the kiss she shared with Dax was more about sweeps week ratings than genuine respect.
There are multiple LGBT-related alternatives: Stamets, Culber, Reno, Jadzia, Sulu, etc. And there is still time to change this. Please do.

When people come out, they're often choosing between who they want to pursue and relationships with friends, family, their jobs etc. This is a character who chose to accept cultural norms because the relationship with Dax would cost them their place in society. I remember watching that as a kid and not having warm, happy Pride feelings about that messaging.

Then someone would be upset that only gay men were featured. It's a PC movement - someone is going to be offended by something. Even if the mix was right, someone else would rightly point out they are trying to profit off a movement. If they'd have just made the theme something about science, no one would have said a word.
Frankly, I'm more interested in hearing that TP is in favor of making a quality Star Trek game experience than what political movement they support. Great - you support that community, I do too. I'm here to play the game though...
The best way to show that you support inclusivity is to just include the characters in the game, and make sure they are well represented. You don't need to have people pay a little bit more to pat you on the back for doing it...

I’m with you on this. Tilting Point has really been pushing their stances (see post in the holodeck) and I’m not liking it one bit. I don’t want to know your agenda and your beliefs and quite frankly knowing them is turning me off to the company.
And on the issue of companies showing stances and agendas and beliefs, I (as a member of the LGBT community) feel it means a lot for a company to show where they stand. I would much rather support a company that even simply acknowledges pride than one that remains neutral and stands for nothing.
Because it is in line with your beliefs
My vote goes to Culber, Statements, Sulu, RENO, etc.
No real contribution other than to say, I love how some of these discussions are so thought provoking, thanks all!
Star Trek has been championing diversity and inclusion since TOS. Were you offended when Shatner pushed his agenda with the first on-screen interracial kiss?

TP: Do better!!!
I was waiting for someone to say this. I was not offended by it and in fact I have had loving interracial relationships that went far beyond a kiss. I don’t care if every agenda item they pushed was exactly what I agreed with. My annoyance level would be the same.
The comparison to Brokeback Mountain is very apt. The Reunion story was about love being love no matter what exteriors we might present. The ending wasn't presented in a positive light and the audience is not meant to side with the bigotry of Trill society. There are countless stories of LGBTQ+ members of society being repressed and forced to live a lie all through the centuries.
Sometimes our most effective morality tales are tragedies.
I think the difference is, when it has happened on screen in those stories, it just "was." I personally favor showing over telling, and while they had the first interracial kiss, there wasn't the accompanying cheering - "Look what we are doing, it's an interracial kiss! Look how forward thinking we are!"
These issues are problematic now because if you don't "support things correctly" people go after you. You can't just agree with something, you have to agree with it in a way deemed acceptable, and you have to constantly point at it.
It's a deep, long, hard conversation, and a forum about a video game probably isn't the best place to have it.

On a personal note, I appreciate how respectful this discussion is, and I hope it will stay that way
Why won't you be changing it? Is it too late technically? Or is it just not important enough to be respectful of the community you are trying to celebrate/align with/profit from?
It’s a shame I can only awesome this once
You must be new to Star Trek
Um. No.
I really like this post and your viewpoint here. My main issue is that I sincerely doubt that DB made the choice while considering it. I won't ascribe to malice what can be owed to ignorance, but I do believe that "look, lesbians!" and a rainbow picture background was about as far as their thought process went... which is why it's important to point out the other contexts that may not be seen, like in this conversation.
If companies want to make political statements, I think it's important that they have authenticity, reasoning, and conviction behind them. DB made the choice to do this. The campaign announcement didn't provide much context behind why those characters were chosen, aside from celebrating Pride. If they had said what you did, I would not have had a second thought. And if that is what DB had intended to highlight in choosing the two characters, they'd be better served saying so in the announcement in the future.

Sadly, you seem to already have made up your mind on the subject.
However I will add that, as a studio, and human beings, we stand by our choice.
And I want to thank Torias327 for explaining so eloquently why Lenara Kahn, and what was portrayed in that episode, are still very relevant.
While progress is made every day, said progress is not achieved by everyone at the same speed, in the same manner. The struggles of the past are still very much contemporary struggles for some.
That is something we collectively often lose sight of, even when we view ourselves as open-minded individuals, with the best intentions.
until recently there wasn't much to choose from, and most of these involved Trills.
Maybe the Riker one with the androgynous species. Anyway, I can accept this choice.
As for the feedback to provide more context in our communications, it will also be taken into consideration.
