I hope he was bluffing or reconsidered. Had to airlock another two legendaries yesterday putting me up to 9 1/5 legendaries airlocked in the last month.
Legendaries I had put a lot of time and effort in obtaining.
How I read Shan's listing of events, there will be no crew slot sale.
As for me, I save my dilithium for crew slots, mostly. I rarely gamble on packs. This means I have enough for all my useless 1/5 crew. I suggest this strategy to all. I am not VIP 14, but I have over 400 crew slots. If a sale came this week, I would get an additional 45 crew slots. Postponing the sale means I airlock more 4* crew I was keeping out for potential events, but it will mean even more spots when they come.
But a sale will eventually come. I suggest finding 4* or even 5* to freeze over dumping 5* crew.
Without packs though you cannot immortalize many legendaries.
I understood it(Timelines Talk) as that no crew slot sale is planned
within the nxt 6 weeks.
Hope i got it wrong though, or that @WRG Ben was just bluffing.
If that is the route TP will go, I will stop playing the game (and consequently, spending)
I didn't care about the offer wall, but the awful policy of no sales by TP is really bad and is killing my enjoyment of the game
Agreed. I cannot get new legendaries if I do not have space for them.
I currently 9x10 premium pack + 59x1 premium packs that I can't open because of no slots, what is the point of a collecting game if you can't collect?
IMHO, crew slot limitations has consistently been the biggest issue with this game since it debuted. I understand that TP/WRG monetizes additional crew slots, but by selling packs of new crew as well as special card packs with great regularity, it seems to me that they are trying to have their cake and eat it too. For what is basically a card-collecting RPG, we not only have to spend to get who we want, but we also have to spend to make room for who we want.
Awesome honor sales like those 2 we have enjoyed this year are wonderful, but it feels cheap to me to not provide a crew slot sale shortly thereafter. Last year (2019) provided some glimmer of hope with 7 crew slots sales, but so far through 8 months of 2020, we have been given but 2 sales...
I am somewhat surprised that the only question posed to Ben regarding crew slots during "Timelines Talks" was when our next sale would be since those are only bandages to temporarily ease the pain of these restrictions. Did no one ask why crew slot limitations exist or if/why there are any plans to help players deal with this pain point? It has to be one of the main issues that drives new(er) players away.

Agreed, I play this game for more than a year and the only time I purchased crew was during the Killy sale, most of my dilithium I simply spend purchasing crew slots, and in all that time, I simply don't remember a single time I used dilithium to purchase packs.
SInce I'm not a big spender, I don't mind not opening packs as much, as the game is quite generous in that regard with the free packs, but I can't even open the free packs without putting a big dent in my progress
Tricky thing about sales/discounts... once people think they’ll occur with regularity, no one ever pays full price again.
WRG might as well just drop the slot price to 1500 dil and leave it there. Players used to grimace and pay the 3000, but I doubt there’s more than a handful of players doing so anymore. The sale price has now become the expected price, and the original price just seems punitive. (OK, more punitive than it did before.)
Same concept for honor citations. When the frequency of the honor sale appeared to be roughly annually (if at all), players weren’t going to just sit on their honor stashes for that long (yes, some did, but many didn’t). Now that the frequency appears to have shifted to roughly semi-annually, how much honor will be spent between now and Jan 2021? Significantly less than in prior years, I’d predict. If they toss in another sale for, say, Thanksgiving (late Nov for those outside the US), no one will ever spend honor again except during the sales.
It's always struck me as counter-intuitive that crew slots are so limited. It discourages buying packs for fear that you will have to airlock many of your acquisitions. Surely that lost potential revenue, not to mention the associated frustration, will outweigh what is made from selling crew slots.
I see people chiming in that they are comfortable with 275 and 330 slots - that's great, but spare a thought for those who have been playing for less time, and/or have not spent quite so much.
I've spent a bit, more than I'd spend on most games, and I'm stuck on 190, which is a tight fit. I'd use dil for another 10-15 on a sale, but TP won't even offer that.

Not to mention that spare crew slots run out quick. When I hit VIP12 which gave me extra crew slots I was living it up but those extra slots did not last very long.
Time to resurrect the idea of ditching slots for immortalised crew.
The reason given for limiting slots in the past is the bandwidth required to check stats on crew, since they are dependant on level, items equipped and starbase bonuses. But immortalised crew stats don't need to be looked up if you hard bake them in to the client and then process the starbase bonus client side. So just limit slots to non immortalised crew.
A lot of problems would go away for most people, and very little server side impact. Likely to generate plenty of sales amongst players with limited slots.
TP could even reduce the number of starting slots, so that slots can still be sold. However the minimum can't be reduced by much as that would adversely affect newbies.
Would be an ease if it were possible to freeze every crew that is fully equipped and LV100 no matter the fuse stats. But probably no chance to implement it in the already messed up game code.
The way the vault was implemented, it was almost certainly designed to balance freeing up crew slots with how they monetize slots(selling + VIP incentive). There are a bunch of technical solutions they could do to alleviate issues, but until they decide to change their monetization strategy, it's a business decision to keep the slot limits in place.

A business model created when there were far fewer crew, no voyages, no mega events, no collections, and fewer ways players obtained portal pulls. It does not work for the current game. The crew slot shortage needs to be addressed to better reflect the current game not the game of years ago. How many players stop spending because of this issue? How many players just quit? Does TP really not want to address the biggest frustration in their four year old game when players have so many newer games with better graphics they could play instead?
If no crew slot sales coming - how about at the very least "an adjustment" to the base level to account for 30 or 40 new crew added since that last sale......
Also love some of the suggestions for a few slots as upper teir rewards on "long" voyages or gauntlet rankings........something, anything to keep pace with the relentless introduction of new crew....
After nearly 4 years (Livingston incoming next month!), I doubt I'll change my spending habits or quit the game over crew slot issues. But... how many cards have I airlocked over the years because of space issues? Too many. We tell newer players to airlock all sorts of easy-to-obtain low level cards for space because they'll come back to them soon enough, which is true (but annoying). But later in the game, when you start airlocking harder-to-get 4* and 5* cards... yeah, they'll come back to you someday too, but it's a long process and in the 5* case it is simply not worth re-collecting someone that you've previously airlocked. (I've made 1 exception to that, for Borg Geordi, but that was pre-Caretaker; I wouldn't have re-collected him if I'd had the Caretaker at that time.)
As noted, it's a business model, but it's a harsh one for the players.
How many players stop spending because of this issue? How many players just quit? Does TP really not want to address the biggest frustration in their four year old game when players have so many newer games with better graphics they could play instead?
Well I'm a newer player I can tell I stopped buying new Packs almost immediately!!! I bought that starter pack and foolishly opened everything, then played a few of the weekly events and I'm FULL. There are tempting packs offered all the time but no way for a new player to handle the numbers of crew thrown at them. I would have loved to buy the post-event 3900 CAPITOLINE WOLF pack but why spend Dil just to airlock all the pulls?
So the only path for new players can do is not purchase ANY pack for a long time and save Dilithium for some fabled future slot sale. Even with this excellent Star Trek 8th Event offering x2 10 packs at a discount of 450 Dil, I am passing. I already have a big enough stack of Unopened 10 packs (not to mention all the single Premium pulls) I haven't been able to open.
Biggest problem in the game and it just gets ignored by DB and now TP. A faction event this week and I have lots of bonus crew but was only able to make space for two crew. That is just frustrating and completely makes all my collection and freezing of crew worthless. I am not paying 3000 dilithium for five crew slots. Not going to pay the price of a pack for each crew slot. So I am stuck with airlocking more legendaries or quitting. Make crew slots a decent price and people will pay. Give players other ways to obtain crew slots. Or continue to lose players. A lost player is a player not giving you money TP. Your choice.
Buy the slots if you are that desperate, due to your own crew slot mismanagement.
Wow, look, a whole sub-forum devoted to crew management. Huh.
Or, just ask for more free stuff. That always works, right? Not lbloody likely.
Crew slot mismanagement because I play the game by participating in events? Mismanagement that the way the game is designed that I will accrue about four new 1/5 legendaries and 2 3/4 super rare that will take up crew slots? I am losing at least six crew slots a month by just playing the game. Then factor in the portal pulls I get for playing the game that brings in another crew person every month from a super rare or legendary pull that I cannot add stars to existing crew or I need to keep as part of a collection. So now I am up to seven lost crew slots a month. If I try to mitigate this number by using a monthly card to buy event packs to immortalize crew and freeze them I do not have enough dilithium to buy slots and the event packs may not drop who I need to add stars to. If I spend my whole monthly card each month to buy five crew slots I am still at minus two crew slots. No way a player can stay ahead unless they keep airlocking the crew they obtain in events, do not play events, or spend more money than the monthly card. If I buy a campaign then I have more portal pulls which drop crew. Dilithium sales are few and far between and regular dilithium prices are high. How much money am I supposed to spend just to have crew slots? How many crew must I airlock? Why is this built in imbalance my fault? It was purposefully built this way by the company so odd you call it player mismanagement.

Making choices in an unbalanced game I did not create. Should I not compete in events? Should I airlock event crew after the event? Just playing the game puts me in crew slot debt and the longer the game goes the worse the debt.
You play sixteen events and what do you get?
Four months older and deeper in crew slot debt.

I have never airlocked a non duplicate, only lost one to the timer running out, and most of my slots were bought on sale.
All 3* crew and below are froze. Any crew not in the top ten of a skill or being used for Arena is froze.
I have three overflow right now, but the Duras Sisters are almost ready to freeze, Dixon Hill will go back in Monday, and I should finish the event Lwaxana (she won't break into the tens) to accompany him on the trip by then. Three slots for three crew. I then will make room for the next event's new crew. It can be done with work.

I will never purchase slot for the full price of 3000 dilithium, in my region, that is the same price of Crusader Kings III Royal Edition (which includes 3 DLCs), why would I spend a lot of money on something that will just be used in a single week? It's just too expensive
And since the new undisclosed policy (Shan said it wasn't a new policy, I doubt it) of reducing/not doing crew slot sales anymore, I will simply not spend a single buck in this game again, I had my share of fun, but I play games to have fun, and I'm not having fun playing this game right now. For now, I will keep playing, but I'm not sure for how long, as I keep getting more frustated, having to either airlock crew member (ultimately, hurting my "goal" of having almost all 4*s crew in the game), or having to freeze crew (which hurts my progress in the game, and ability to score in events/voyage)

Three slots for three crew. I then will make room for the next event's new crew. It can be done with work.
And money.
(Or are you F2P?)
