I mean ultimately resource management is a big part to the strategy game aspect of STT. WRG/TP has no say in my resource management and my strategies. If they prefer players spend their resources more frequently, they need to implement more strategic and lucrative ways to spend that currency. Don't tell me how to play so that you can increase your profits. Make the changes in game to change my strategy and playing style.
Players used to spend honor as it came in, then an honor sale was offered. Now players are saving between sales. If WRG decides they no longer want to offer an honor sale like that then players will adjust. This entire thread is confirmation for why they don't want regular predictable sales.

The problem was players needed or wanted to spend honor as it came in. You needed citations to build your young roster. You needed more crew to add depth. You needed or wanted the crew in the Honor Hall.
This time last year I was saving up for the two golds as a birthday present/first anniversary playing reward and spent it when I made it to 200k. Now, I'm five days shy of two years and I have ~450k, as of this morning. There are plenty of good reasons people aren't spending honor like they did. Most mature players probably don't spend honor like newer players.
*Most of us have the Honor Hall crew. I managed to buy Phlox the day he was released and still have some for the sale.
*Campaigns give us a new way to get citations. I haven't bought a purple one since back last summer and a gold in longer. I'm sitting on 6 purple and 7 gold ones right now. I might buy a couple more, if there were a sale, but I have enough on hand.
*We aren't crew hungry anymore. New players need crew. They have the space and the need for bigger and better crew.
Do I want more of the existing crew and stars added and new additions to the vault? Well, duh! I'm a collector and I want them all.
However, I have my quarters full right now with thawed innovators and have some packs stored up. I had a Caretaker drop last night and got Falcon O'Brien from a portal today.
When the Innovators go (back) in stasis, then I might pop some packs. I have plenty to work on and limited space. I can wait for new crew from events, packs, gifts, etc. I get at least one a week. I don't need to buy any extra.
With honor coming in steadily and less need to spend, the honor RESERVE goes up. If there is something I need to spend it on that pops up, sale, offer, crew, I have it. If not, I wait. I'm nearly 37, not 7.

To be fair we were saving even before sales to be able to FF a new honor hall crew the day they were released. We expected there would be a lot more crew added to the honor store than there ever was. That's on DB.

One of the first pieces of advice that I received on the forum was to save honor until I had enough to FF a new legendary in case I got a really good one. I hoard a lot more than that these days, though.

But that's something I still agree with, even if there is never an honor sale again. For an experienced player with a deeper roster, you're never using a 1-4/5 crew except in gauntlet where the first star is all that matters. So citing from 1/5 to 2/5 makes no difference to your gameplay. And then by the time you get too 5/5, who knows what new crew will be added or that you'll get from a drop. So instead of buying citations piecemeal one at a time, buy them 4 at a time (or whatever amount you need to FF). That way you get the benefit of the 5/5 at the same time, but keep the option to change to a different crew until then.
That's not hoarding if you then spend your 200k honor when you get it.

Agreed. In my opinion, you just defined the STT line between prudent saving and sale-created hoarding.
If you have a goal to try to FTM or just FF the newest awesome card that you get, then 200K (or 4 banked cites) is a fine strategy. Go for it.
On the other hand, there is the adage about not putting all your eggs in one basket. If you focus all your honor/cite efforts on one card (whether all at once or sequentially every time you get 50K), the trade-off is that the rest of your roster is neglected for long stretches. Depending on your game goals, it may make more sense to distribute your improvements across your crew. Nobody knows which crew will be featured in 3 weeks, or 5 weeks, or whatever. If you spread the wealth around, your crew will be more prepared for whatever event TP puts out. Do it long enough, and you’ll be ready for every event they create. A 3/5 bonus crew is plenty useful for faction and galaxy events, unless you’re trying to win the event. Two 3/5 crew are more useful in factions than one FF card.
Not saying either way is right. Just wanted to point out that there are multiple ways to play, and each player should decide what’s best for them.
The above, plus- we now have four citation only Golds, so having just a cite or two on hand for one of them is useful. I'd been working on Kahless and Bev Picard both at 1/5* stars for Gauntlet. (Everyone knows he's good, but she's got some decent numbers, if you are still missing some of the more obvious ones for MED and she can simply be bought.) When the Cultural Figure trait popped up, I dropped one on him and used him a good bit. I may make finishing those four Golds a goal, if I make good progress on some of my others

TP, if I could rely on more consistency within the game, then I would spend my resources more regularly.
If you put out a statement saying: Honor sales will occur on these 2 dates annually, and every player will be limited to purchasing 5 purchases per sale. And we will occasionally have temporary achievements allowing you to earn an extra purchase. And we are lowering the current cost of Legendary citations.
Then, after saving what I need to have on hand, I would spend my honor instead of hoarding it. Because I could rely on what to expect and when to expect it. But seeing the people who spend their honor just days before the sales and how justifiably upset they get, has given all of us a reason to hold onto our resources.
I'm sure you can understand where we're coming from.
In a related segment... They now added an expiration to all messages. Granted, so far its 180d. But now they're preventing us from hoarding chrons/rewards/etc in our message queue.
So instead of incentiving spending, they've restricted hoarding.
It would be nice if there was a way to earn the credits we need for this dabo sale. Like if I could sell extra inventory for credits or if Skirmish gave more. Heck, even if they sold 10,000,000 credits for $5 it at least would be something.

You can buy credits with dilithium. I don't know how much 10mil would cost though...

Unless my math is wrong, about 38,000 dilithium which would be approx. $350.

With the VIP bonuses it should be less than that (the actual amount depending on your VIP level) but funnily enough still more than what it would cost to clear the wheel with dilithium on a normal day, at least for me at VIP12.
I just joined the forum for the express purpose of adding my voice to those who are concerned about the lack of an honor sale, and the apparent refusal to even confirm that it’s a possibility at all. I do not understand the logic.
“We want to have random sales involving in game resources, but we don’t want people to hoard those resources.”
Those are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. If there’s going to be a way to use in game resources in a much more efficient manner every so often, they are going to save those resources.
For example, I was just burned by this Dabo sale, and I won’t forget it. I have historically keep my credits in the 5-10mil range, doing credit pulls to gain honor for the next sale, lol. I never wanted to let my total get away from me because it was a chore to burn through it all. So I was unable to participate in the dabo wheel sale in a meaningful way, and that **tsk tsk**. People in my fleet are excitedly posting the gold cards they can buy for the day... and I cannot participate.
Know what? Guarantee I will not be spending another extra credit until I am carrying a balance of at least 50mil. I am going to be doing more hoarding, not less.
I am proud to have 600k in honor. That should be REWARDED, it should see the developers enthusiastic, not look at it suddenly as lamentable “problem” to be solved by suddenly undercutting the possibilities of a future honor sale...

A fantastic point here. Where the hell do the devs get off for complaining that we have too much of a resource that primarily comes from SPENDING MONEY ON THE GAME?
At first I thought this was merely crummy. Now I feel Tipping Point is bizarrely seeking to punish their customers for daring to buy their product. What the hell kind of business is this?
