Re: Honor Salez
in The Bridge
There has been some discussion of changes to the coming honor sale. One item mentioned was that it may contain less begolds. Personally I think the most enjoyable part of the past 3 honor sales have been the begolds. If this were removed/reduced it would be much less enjoyable. Waiting for reset to open up the daily 10k and some 40k is really exciting and fun. Waiting to just buy up the cites or other static items will just be repetitive and not add to daily enjoyment.
As I see it crew retrieval is more or less a reverse behold where you narrow down the choices (yes potentially to 1) to get a random selection. I would be nice to have a influx of normal begolds where the player gets the choice to contrast the retrieval system.
Also this is coming from a player who will be getting frequent FF Begolds.
Cheers

I agree 100%
The crew retrieval system is not going to be a primary way to attain crew. All it will be is a specific crew every now and then.
To say that this will replace begolds or even premium reward packs is just ludicrous. This new feature should be and is only an addition IMO. It should not be used to replace anything.
If TP takes begolds out of the honor sale you will get nothing but anger and criticism.
I agree. The begolds are definitely my favorite part of honor sales and while they may not be as useful as cites, they're the thing that makes them fun.
If the 40k packs should drop a cite and a constellation instead of a cite and a begold, that might make up for it to some degree, but it would still be a lot less interesting than the begold variant.
I wouldn't hate having the choice of citation + begold OR citation + constellation, though.
I had though of that as well. I hope that in the long term there will be retrieval tie in with dismissing a gold. Perhaps when you let them go they go on to live in the sky as a "constellation". The honor received for them has always seemed disproportionate and disappointing.
Swapping for a single Constellation would also be bad.
Swapping for 3 Constellations, enough ISM to open them, and enough Quantum and Credits to use them, that might be a fun way to get people to play with the new feature.
Basically if we still got a 5* crew with each cite, but it came via Crew Retrieval, I think it could be fun. But if it's only part of what we need and we're still stuck waiting a month for enough Quantum/ISM for a single crew that would be a massive step backwards.
Now I have to look at my credits and think about how disappointed I was to not be able to participate in the Dabo sale that we evidently got INSTEAD of an honor sale.
i like this idea - airlock Shinzon and you could get honor and a human, Romulan, or picard constellation
That’s a great idea. Like even if it was airlock a certain number of crafty crew to get a crafty constellation.
Personally, I think this idea is worthy of its own thread. Dismissing legendaries could either give that constellation or the 550 honor - or both. I think that would help a bit more with the disproportionately small amount of honor you get from dismissing a legendary.
To the original topic... Our fleet and Idol's podcast love to talk about legendary beholds. I have to imagine that it's a pretty universal thing in this game. I think WRG would be doing much better in terms of community engagement if they lean into that and make the sale heavier on beholds, even if they go lighter on citations. It's counterintuitive, though. The concept of Crew Retrieval serves player requests to target crew. Citations help players advance targeted crew. Beholds are the dabo wheel of crew. But players love it more that the actual dabo wheel. It's weird, but that's how I've observed player behavior.
"Honour Sale coming soon."
And people still defend them no matter what........
Sad.
If there's no sale well tough luck. Don't understand the fuzz ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Either way looking forward if there is one and if not then so be it!
Ben said there would be no Honor Sale in January and February and there is not. The honor sale will not be till March.
Ben did try to walk back the comment of hoarding. I think what he was getting at is that there are multiple currencies in the game that TP has to manage just like a government has to manage their currencies. If people hoard a lot of a currency then TP may have to make adjustments to make that currency still work and the game economy not crash. I get that. If people can buy a bunch of something all at once it lessens the value of that product. It makes it more difficult for TP to do long term planning and still make money selling products without having to keep increasing the amount of product in that sale and causing inflation. But Ben did say that people can hoard if they want, that they can play however they want.
Ya, the walk back was a bit painful to hear. I understand what he was trying to say, but as they said during the interview it was definitely a PR fail.
The problem was really the players misunderstanding the first comment. He never said, "stop hoarding honor" the way people keep repeating it. In fact, in this second interview, he said if people want to wait and and use their honor during a sale TP understands that and it's fine. What they don't want is a planned regular sale such that players set their calendars around The Convergence Day Honor Sale.
Sales will happen when they happen. You can use whatever honor/credits/merits you have at that time. If you want to save for the next sale, that's your business. Just don't expect a sale to be on X date just because there was a sale then last year.
And if he had said that in the first place, I'm sure most people would've breezed right passed it. Unfortunately, he's still learning how to PR and the wording (although I agree not as bad as it's been made out to be) was poorly chosen, and poorly timed. In any case, I think this horse has been beaten to a bloody pulp so I don't want to rehash it. I'm happy he clarified and I'm totally fine with not expecting an honor sale on a specific date.
Better check ur „facts“.
Ben already confirmed on the Timelines Talks in January, that an honor sale will be coming, not in february, but prob around March/April. And Ben never said don t hoard honor.
Pretty obvious that you never watched the Timlines Talks shows with Ben at all.
Yeah, "charming" him likes to stomp on the creators at every opportunity he can find. Often, as you said, with not really researched "facts" and trying to cutify his constant assaults with emoticons so he can escape with them. THAT is sad. I mean I am unsatisfied with certain developments or lack of them myself, but one can bring them across differently...

So just like we got in ye olden times of...January 2021?
https://forum.disruptorbeam.com/stt/discussion/17359/star-trek-timelines-news-timelines-talks-summary#latest
And why the smeg EXACTLY should I be finding out about WRG/TP's game somewhere besides WRG/TP's Forums?
Y'all defend the nonsense. I'm done.
Yes! loved that and I wish it happened more often 🖖

No matter how much the loss of begolds was balanced by adding something else, it would lead to nothing but a complete meltdown on the forums. We've had enough torches and pitchforks on here this year alone to last a lifetime.
If they want to do something on top of the begolds, as has been suggested, that's great. The trade of an airlocked gold for relevant constellations that has been suggested holds promise. But it's too late to put the begold genie back into the bottle.
I honestly, genuinely don't see Timelines Talks as a problem. He's doing an interview. People watch/read interviews all the time. If this were a TV series creator doing an interview with a fan podcast, that creator would get praise for reaching out directly to the fans.
TP has clearly communicated every time Ben has appeared on their show. And Shan has posted summaries (both on the forums and through in-game communication) the last few times he did these interviews due to the blowback after the first time (the exception being this week - but honestly, other than explaining his hoarding gaffe and leaving the cryptic for the Honor Sale, I don't think there was anything of note said).
I agree it would be nice if we.could get those Q&As back, but I don't understand why anyone thinks this needs to be an either/or situation.
Scott, I usually love your comments. You bring an entertaining wit to the forums, but this is ... not it.
It is common practice for any media organization to do interviews. And really, there's never been anything earth shattering revealed in these interviews - we get some interesting background and usually a tidbit or two for what's coming. Telling us that an Honor Sale is coming in a few months is not earth shattering in any way and it's disingenuous to imply otherwise. If he had laid out all of the dates and rules for how this sale will work then sure, we could debate that.
I would also point out that this week was a great opportunity for them to show off a feature that, on paper, was confusing as heck. If their show didn't exist, maybe we would've gotten a short video walkthrough.
We feel the same way (we make no $$ from the show) and we've brought it up to them more than once, but were told they don't have the people for it. A stream is recording, channel and 'suggestion box' management, question and feedback vetting, video editing, content discussion, and more. It adds up to a lot on the plate of employees who already have to wear a ton of hats.
Take Shan who, until recently, was their only front-facing employee. Moderating all the sub-forums on here, answering all the PMs, handling CS tickets personally, putting in bug tickets and managing the engineering sub, even handling MOTD and other in-game issues plus all the stuff we don't see.
We've made sure that there is a recap up the next day following WRG streams (stream -> sleep -> work for the hosts) and WRG (Shan) has done for every one after the first Q&A we did, either on these forums or through mail. Could they do more? Probably. I'd especially love a 2-5 minute video in Starfleet Communications every other month or so with updates. Maybe with enough feedback they will expand their community interaction.
But it's also been a nice change of pace from the last three years to get regular discussion and updates on things from them. TT saves them most of the media work and in return the community is afforded more interaction than they'd be able to produce otherwise.
Rock on with your bad selves. Y’all do excellent work.
Also, @DScottHewitt ? Do Better.
Shouldn't you be skirmishing? :P
But seriously, thanks for giving the devs a platform.
Anyone else who wants to do a stream/show weekly or monthly about the game, I'll check it out. Just post a link on the forum. Once you find a groove, reach out to Shan. She can probably hook you up with one of the devs.
As to the actual topic of the thread, I hope there's been enough reaction that Shan communicates our desire to keep the beholds as the primary focus of the honor sale. Personally, I prefer the cheaper citations because that lets me target my advancement. But I certainly respect the community's apparent preference for the beholds.
