I am not sure what you mean by overwriting it.
As soon as you do a fresh install, you start a fresh, your saved data is on our servers.
Logging in allows you to quickly get back into your account.
When you enter your login details, it says that a game has been found on the account, press continue to play the stored game. The implication is that pressing Cancel will replace the saved one with the new game, that's just started. If that's not the case, and it's impossible to replace the existing game with a new game, then that's great news.
