I cash in items at Phase change and then as I get them just to avoid this. I can see waiting until the value goes up, but last minute seems excessive.
I routinely turn in items in Monday because I know lots of other people do. So if I can put in enough effort to get to where I want to be without turning them in, then turn them in later on Monday (generally not last minute, normally with a couple of hours to spare), that final boost makes up for everyone else jumping past me.
Unfortunately, that particular week I was busy that Monday. Never mind I thought, I'll be free with half an hour to get it sorted. Plenty of time D'oh!
