Only slept like 5 hours since Friday so I am going to keep an eye on the leaderboard a few more hours, then pass out, but I will be back to recap tonight with the stuff I said I'd share. This weekend has been tough but rewarding, stoked for Disguised Janeway
I will not elaborate on this but that last 1,000,000 was done from a combination of spite and encouragement from fleet members who were really cheering me on and wanted to see it. To Jim's point I too am not sure how I was able to function at the end, my body was actively quitting on me but mentally I just refused to give in.
Speaking of fleet members, I want to single a few out and thank them for helping me this weekend. These four people were constantly messaging me with encouragement, doing point projections to help me track the competition, and were giving me reminders to hydrate. So a MASSIVE thank you to:
You guys were an enormous help to help keep me mentally in the game. I would also like to thank the folks who "kept me company" on discord. All the jokes we were making about me dealing with bot checks were really funny I would also like to acknowledge a player long since retired: Jenkins. In my early days before the founding of Starport, Jenkins and I hatched "plans" to one day take down an event. Those plans were hilariously crude but they lit the fire that lead me on the path to where this weekend became possible, so thank you Jenkins.
Great effort Bylo Band! But how do you even do that? I have 10% of your VP and am losing the will to live.
And now to this, as promised. I was trying to think up a clever way to approach this while I was locked in on Galaxy builds. The rough draft was to take the "Five Ds of Dodgeball" and make it the Five Ps of Event Runs, but I couldn't quite devote enough braincells to it at the time, lol
OK, so here are the basics.
1. You need to prepare. I had been stockpiling all manner of resources for years. Rental tokens, shuttle boosts, chronitons, etc. I had been waiting for a new Janeway event to erupt, so I had been working for months to be ready.
2. Personal life. I will always remember the words of Smelly when he said that he always told Mrs. Smelly before a Skirmish that he was going to be unavailable for 4 days. I took that to heart. I took 3 days off from work, I sent a lot of time with my kids before the event, and I was honest with my wife and kids about what I was doing so they would not take it personally when I was really limited in what I could do with them this weekend.
3. Planning. Once I decided almost two weeks ago to make this run, I began hatching plans on how to cope. I made sure I had plenty of Gatorade pouches so I could stay hydrated. I made sure I had 4 days worth of either meals I prepared in advance (like salads) or else could eat one handed so I could eat without the need to stop building. I also built myself a customized "playing station" so I could build non-stop for hours with almost zero movement required to keep my fingers/hand/arm from expending energy or cramping. You also need to come up with a plan to keep your device from overheating while charging, that slows you down a ton. Oh yeah, and I had a little sleeping area setup on the floor in the living room so that when I would stop for a 20 minute nap every so often I could just crash. Big help.
There is more including some strategies and whatnot, but those are the basics. You just need to mentally prepare, because if your mind is not in the game, you have no chance. Your brain can keep your body moving forward, even when your body wants to stop.
Lots of chrons and lots of clicking. I know quite a few players do pre-farming during skirmishes since the items don’t change. When I go hard in galaxies or skirmishes I like to watch my favorite trek episodes while I do it. You can kind of zone out and just keep clicking.
For those high finishes you will also want/need immortalize event crew including the legendary or legendaries for the event to ensure you get the most super rares from your crafting. Also, if you have not done a ton of pre-farming you are going to need a ton of chrons.

So, you want to join the "Band" wagon?

That is just awesome.
And thank you for helping those of us with questions.
