It's probably time for a "pity timer", like the Scans have. Frustrating players drives players away. Knowing that sooner or later you will succeed, helps retention.

I just struggle to understand what it is WRG is doing with Gauntlet at this point. They swap out Archer after a few months without zero warning (I admit I will NEVER not be extremely bitter about this), they swap in Mariner who is not designed for Gauntlet play, they swap out Mariner after only a few months in favor of Ransom who IS designed for Gauntlet play, and they give Ransom multiple 65% Gauntlets right out of the gate. The people who lucked into Ransom that first day now have a lock on the leaderboard which theoretically gives those players an improved opportunity to win additional copies...

...if the boxes awarded to winners actually have the best chances to win cards. So their plan seems to be to try and entice people to spend dilithium to buy their way up the leaderboard which is something more and more people will have to do to get passed the growing walls of 65% Ransoms guarding the top...

...except we have plenty of "data" to know that victory boxes are not the way to go. Take it from somebody who spent a small fortune of dilithium "buying" over 36 1st place finishes chasing Archer only to not get a single copy, victory boxes are not good. And we have further "data" from many successful Gauntlet hunters that streak boxes are the way to go if you want to win the cards, and chasing streaks requires dilithium to keep those streaks going when you lose...

...except if you are already willing to pay dilithium to keep streaks going to chase cards, as long as your selected cards are strong enough to conceivably win a matchup it doesn't really matter if you have the shiny new card because you're going to have pay either way to beat them...

...except you don't really have to beat them because winning the card is not important due to the victory boxes they would theoretically help you acquire are bad.

So seriously, what is the plan WRG? You've designed a frustration machine that demands payment and generates unsatisfying results for the both the winners AND the losers. The winners get cards they don't really need for anything, and the losers miss out on getting the cards they apparently want and cannot get. The plan seems to be no plan.

I was unable to catch First Flight Archer when he was in theaters, when is he coming out on Bu-ray?

    Anecdote != Data

RNG is RNG, and my experience is just more anecdote, but take it from this experienced gauntlet hunter, most of my crew have come from drops finishing in the top 10.

The best way to win gauntlet crew is to just keep playing gauntlet and win though crates to overwhelm the RNG until you win the crew.

And after the time runs out/is charged, you will be given a random gauntlet card not a behold.

This is effectively how the completed gauntlet rounds achievement giving Locutus at 20k works (or worked, for most long term players). I don't know if it's a question of not wanting to mess with that particular bit of the code, but it seems to me they could add all the other previous cards at increments of 10k, in the order they cycled out of being the main card.

Or they could run a new month-long OE where different gauntlet cards were available as the top threshold on some challenging path, so that you could pick which to focus on (or spend lots of dil with a guarantee) - maybe each strand is 300 shuttle missions for a different faction so by picking a faction to work on you pick which gauntlet card you're working towards? (Though they might be a bit reluctant knowing that people have factions tanked - IDK if the OE code can track it but if it could, you could make it however many 3-hour missions so people would have to untank.) It would have a similar "helping people catch up" vibe to the Captain's Bridge one that's about to finish its second run.

Pure luck, there is zero strategy involved. I’ve spent dil countless times to get first and have won a crew I think twice, on the other end several times I’ve started the gauntlet not played one round, finished dead last or very nearly, opened the one box prize and won crew twice. I’ve won crew on low streaks, high streaks and everything in between. Just start it every single day, play a little or a lot but play, much like the lottery you can’t lose if you don’t play.

I’m still trying for Archer and the new Ransom, someday. It is frustrating for sure seeing walls of just released new ones. I have no idea how people are getting 10+ copies of any of them. I think the most I’ve won is six of one crew.

I’d like to see the top three chest wins revamped to eliminate anything three star or any merits or trainers and the odds changed for crew. Could you imagine if the events were patterned like the gauntlet and placing high didn’t guarantee crew but trainers, merits and possible three star equipment?

RANT: Definitely do not read it, but I just had to get it out
I made peace with Gauntlet being terrible a couple years ago and actually stopped playing it. The odds are so bad they may as well be 0% and all the rest of it. I was at peace, I really was. For like a whole year my catch phrase on this forum was "The only way to win Gauntlet is to not play Gauntlet". I was cool with missing out when the cards were one-offs like Armus, TK&K, or Balok, or more regular characters like Red Angel or Guinan, but that all changed when they made the decision to make Jonathon Archer a Gauntlet card.

As a pretty big fan of Enterprise this forced my hand, I had to come back to Gauntlet to win Archer because one of my personal goals in STT is to have all the Archers. So after a year+ of not playing Gauntlet I have been playing ever since the decision was made to put Archer in the Gauntlet.

And I am still playing Gauntlet against my better judgement lor even my own will because 7+ months later I still have not achieved my goal of acquiring Archer. In the 7+ months since I've come back I've only hit THREE gold cards: another useless copy of Armus, a Red Angel, and Mirror Mariner. That's it. I've melted down my dilithium supply several times to win first place many, many times and to keep insanely large streaks going and despite doing everything WRG wants the players to do, entire MONTHS go by between gold card drops which IMO is a MASSIVE problem when the card rotate out after 3 months now.

Since playing/paying hard apparently yields effectively the same results as just registering, getting last place, and opening the last place box every two days, I just want some path to acquire Archer so I can be done with this. Gauntlet is my least favorite part of any video game I have ever played and it has only gotten worse with this rapid rotation of feature cards

One day I hope to have the required bravery/courage to try this intriguing approach. If I do and I win something cool, be prepared for me to tag you in appreciation :)

Lol, having been in a couple of gauntlets where Mr. Band was first place and sacrificing whatever was handy at the time in hopes of sending him some good vibes while purposefully avoiding knocking him out of first place I can appreciate what really wasn’t a rant but the truth. There may be others but it sure seems no one has had worse luck that Mr. Band in the gauntlet. I thought my luck was fleeting but pales next to the things I’ve read in his many enjoyable posts. Not gauntlet related but his log in the quest for Black and Chuckles is worth the price of admission alone. For fairness sake and just because it wouldn’t kill them to throw some love for a change, the devs should give this guy an Archer, no taking any dil or anything else of “value”, just wrap up an Archer with a big bow and gift it. Until that occurs though, Mr. Band may the winds of luck change in your favor!

Kudos! Though I would have enjoyed the power rant had your thumb accidentally selected Angel or Armus, as you were taking your screen-shot! ;) lol Now may the light of RNGesus shine down on me...

It figures🙄After Archer, and he doesn't show up in the behold. Congrats, on the Ransom. It will at least give you another option for gauntlet crew. Considering how often his traits show up.

65% Crit two Gauntlets in a row for me. He hits two sets of three Traits, and they landed back-to-back.

I had a 143 streak, ran a perfect gauntlet without ever losing, finished third and still didn't win anything.

Crew eventually drop, but you can't count on them to drop in any single gauntlet. Regardless of how long your streak is or how high you finish.
This is why I don't invest any hard earned merits on refreshing for Gauntlet. Gauntlet isn't anything like the Scanning feature, where you have an increasing bar of success. So I play it until crew refreshes without artificial help. And take merits winning instead of losing them.

BTW, I got my first Gauntlet behold and took my first Balok. But I'm still waiting for any of the monstrously rare Voyage drops.

I pushed a little until Big Giant Head dropped. Now "relaxing" until the next new Crew gets added.

  • I have been pretty relentless in playing gauntlet since this announcement, and I have not seen a single behold yet. Before that, I got around 4 gold drops in the last few months (3x Mariner, 1x Archer).

    Very frustrating...
I want to become a Dilionaire...
  • I was extremely lucky because I have got Power Ransom from the first win streak (i.e. after 3 consecutive wins).
