Thoughts on this Galaxy Event! Fun or tedious boredom?

  • Yes, it's tedious, and it doesn't have to be. I like the events in general, and I don't think the core mechanics need to be changed. I got to about rank 1600 this time, and it took me nearly three consecutive hours of mindless, repetitive tapping to get there. Yes, I typically do 90% of any Galaxy Event in one sitting. When you do, you really really feel how long it takes you.

I can think of a few easy ways to improve the quality of life on them, without changing how these events actually work. From most to least useful, these would be:

    1. Allow us to turn off the animations. Please! I don't see that these do anything important, but they slow down the gameplay a lot. This would cut time to do Galaxy Events almost in half.

    2. Remember which character we used for each mission, and set that up as the default. I mean, if I use Mirror Picard for a particular item, then the next time I get that same mission... yeah, I'm probably going to want to use Mirror Picard again. It's pretty rare that I will want to change it. And since the characters are not sorted by who will give the best chance of scoring the super-rare item, it will keep us from having to remember that once we've figured it out.

    3. If we have all the items required to make all three items for a turn-in, and we have a character saved for each mission, then give us a button to make all 3 items and turn them in. Basically, this would function like the Quick Build button does for items. It consumes all the required items and gives us the VP and any super-rare items that we earn.

If you implemented all three, then I could probably do the Galaxy Event in twenty minutes instead of three hours. It would still cost me the same amount of items to earn the same amount of VP, so the core mechanics wouldn't change. The interface would simply be quicker and easier.

I found it fun. I played a little on the first day and got Picard. Stopped once I had him and enjoyed an event free weekend! :)
  • Played a little bit initially (2k chrons I think?) to get all the threshold rewards, then watched my ranking slowly get worse and worse. Monday morning I played enough to get Dax immortalized.

I used to sit out galaxies completely, but have played the last few due to the two MAJOR improvements that are supply kits and voyages.

Being able to drop several hundred chrons, AND have them go 25% farther, while racking up credits, is a big win in my book...I can pop a kit, warp 10 on the items i need until my chrons run out, use the chrons from rewards AND voyages during that supply kit, and be able to clear most of the thresholds during the first day or so. Then all i have to do is save my rares until phase 2 starts, turn them in for the last couple of rewards, and i almost always have gotten a finished 4/4 and a new 1/4 to take up its slot :o

FWIW - Galaxy events I find are far better than shuttle events ooh wait 3 hours (-time boost), fail, small ammount of points. So I like them, may not be perfect.

Galaxy events feel far more achieveable, yes they require more intense game play, but don't you play the game to, well, play.

It is no more tedius than replenishing your starfleet uniforms or just grinding the Delphic Expanse space mission to level up your crew et al.

The only issues I have is it seems to be the same items, missions again and again - there needs to be a little variety otherwise players will just farm those items (if they don't already) in advance.

Perhaps also every reward tier there could be a special cadet challenge to win extra items that maybe useful - but it could be used to enhance the RP and story line aspect of the game, which is fast becoming a fading one.

Secondly with new crew characters being introduced every week puts a heck of a strain on slots, and the pressure to max and ice characters, leaving precious little time to enjoy maxed characters, and I think the availabilty of slots will need some rework soon if not now already.

I don't mind Galaxy events but they do require more work than they used to. I remember when trying to break 100K was a bit challenging. Now I can do it with ease but the work per VP is roughly the same.

Not looking forward to eventually going for a top 5 finish since I know now what it takes to get there but I want to do it just for the achievement and getting a multi-fuse Legendary I like.

Out of curiosity... when did mindless finger tapping and tedious yawn inducing repetition become "intense game play"?

It was fun for about a day, at which point I finished the thresholds and walked away. As much as I despise galaxy it is fun for a little while, mainly through the novelty of crafting, but there is no way I can stick with it long enough to get a ranked reward, especially if it turns into a bidding war.

um perhaps because it involves far more tapping than shuttle events, hence the word "intense" or to be slightly more precise intensive - whether it is repetitive, boring et al - you are still playing a game are you not?

I am using the word "intense" in the time consumption capacity and not a pressurised one.
