I'm fine with the text over the portrait tiles, since it takes care of one of the most commonly asked questions from newer players, and does it in as obvious a way as possible. It answers questions before they're asked, rather than presenting an icon that may need further explanation. I'm very happy with it, as a QOL improvement for many players.
I will second the heaps of praise for the MASSIVELY improved startup time. Thank you very much for addressing that, DB!
I'm also pleased that I can now play music over the game. That too is very welcomed change.
And thank you, J.I.L., for starting a thread for positive comments.
Please @Dralix@[DC]_Merwinian call me JL...im not female so calling me by a girl's name is just weird. Also please know that im not saying im Jesus...i just proclaim His name!

So you're telling me permanent, obtrusive text and shading over our characters' faces for the entire hundred thousand-plus user base is worth saving new players an extra 5-10 seconds of figuring out that an icon in the corner means shuttle or voyage? That's... ridiculous.
The icon alone would be more than enough of an indicator!
I know my Ipad 2 isn't the best of devices, but DB has managed to solve massive performance problems:
- No more 4 minute waiting on startup
- no more crashing before being able to select an option in a Voyage dilemma (have been restarting the game numerous times in order to get a voyage running further.....)
- no more crashing with ad-warps
- no more crashing in the middle of an arena battle
- no more endless waiting while opening multiple shuttle missions
loving the boot times! Thank you. Liking the voyage notice ion inside the galaxy view button. Appreciating the ‘status’ icon in the crew windows.
Hate the chat format: we are only in 1 fleet and 1 squadron. So there is zero need to show those names. Turn the chat names into tabs and get them out of the way. Suddenly more room! Just a suggestion m-)

It was already pretty quick on Steam, but is now ultra-fast. You can hit play before John DeLancie even speaks now.
