Why is the $9.99 Chron offer being pulled prematurely?

DB may see a short-term drop in sales for the $9.99 1250 chrons offer for the first couple of weeks. As people become aware that the deal is not available for the first and last day of a galaxy event they will begin to purchase them sooner than waiting until the last day.

The only problem with that is several players will only drop the money if they see their rank threshold is in danger prior to the event ending and spend whatever amount necessary to keep within safe range of it. Since you can only buy the offer five times, those that have already made it a goal to get as high as possible as quickly as possible will have most likely exhausted all of their five buys in order to help them. Those that sit on the fence and wait until closer to the event's end will still drop some money if they feel they need to, and it does happen a lot.

To the argument made of the sniping issue: it is mute with this offer as it has a limit on how many times you can buy it. The "sniping" happens with stacked Super Rares that are traded in last minute. There are still plenty of people still crafting up until the timer goes off for the event and this move by DB only affects them negatively more so than those that have a huge Super Rare stash they have been keeping since the beginning of the event.

Also, the offer was not even up for a full twenty-four hours; it took at least thirty to sixty minutes for it to even appear in the Portal after Phase 2 began.
There are three ways to do something; the right way, the wrong way, and the Janeway.

    DB: Do Better.
