I was expecting DIL this time, like the previous login issue. If I had a voyage that I lost because I couldn't log in for 4 hours I would certainly expect the ability to revive it and not just 1k chronitons. As it is I lost 2 rounds of gauntlet and whatever prizes I would have gotten from that.
I only read the first 10 messages or so, but simply the comp needs to fit the error and the loss.
The idea is to make while again, perhaps with a little extra for the tribbles.. I mean troubles.
Take yesterday's outage for a good example.
I couldn't access the game for 5 hours approx.
It cost nearly 2 full shuttle runs, the length of nearly a full un-refilled voyage and let's just make this a worst case scenario & pretend that 5 hour window was my only chance to play in the day so I lost out on cadet tickets and my Voyage crashed before I could recall due to the Error.
Well, we can't calculate the faction only parts as they have no way if being replaced other then via shuttles..
Yesterday was chroniton cadet day, so 150
About another 300 chronitons for the time not Voyaging .. so you could say the extra 550 makes up for the shuttles, time and loss of play.
I am surprised that 100 Dilithium wasn't included and I didn't notice a large outcry for it, given the number of crashed Voyages likely to have happened because of this.
In my case that didn't actually happen.
Had it, I would have written a ticket.
So, other then the lack of the 100 Dilithium I feel the compensation for yesterday's oppsy was very fair and most appreciated.
Now, flipping the script..
Had it happened today, same scenario I think
1000 chronitons, 100 Dilithium and 10 3* shuttle speed boosts would be the correct answer in an everyone email.
Players like myself who were affected more seriously (I was out of action for 5 hours while others were back in with in what.. 1 ? 2? )
Should be able to open a ticket with CS
And if they should be eligible to be escalated in prize at event end.
CS can't change rank, we know that.. and that early in this situation it would be premature to award the 5* to affected players. However, raising a flag on the play would be correct. Affected players event ends and they reach.. 1400, 1500 should get the 5* , someone ranking 650 should get the difference in prizes to 300.
Other errors suggest other corrections.
During the last Holodeck event, there was a bug that some players knew of and utilized that shot up their ranks.. other players like myself had no idea and our ranks were affected so thanks to @Shan CS made an instant correction to make things right.
So, in the end..
Every situation should be evaluated on its own merits and the compensation should reflect the specific situation to make the affected players "whole" again. (Perhaps plus a bit more then whole, due to the stress involved)

The game was not down for 4 hours. And if your hypothetical situation was true you would put in a ticket and CS would give your Voyages rewards. I know because I have done it.

Yes it was. I was logged out roughly after 12 and could not log in until 4:30. You're right, if I had lost a Voyage I would have put in a ticket. But since the last time they had a similar outage they included the DIL, I was surprised it wasn't included this time.

Yeah it was for a good chunk of players, not everyone had as long as outage as others but there absolutely was a portion.
(Check the engineering thread, Shan confirms it)

One of our top captains still hasn't gotten back in. He can't play the event and the squad is out a shared crew.
* Dil would be nice compensation, it feels a bit more sincere. Especially given the frequency of errors.
Beyond that, honour, chrons, credits and merits are some of the more suitable compensations since they can be used by everyone (even if some choose to keep these things stashed).
I am mad that I only get 10 federation faction shuttles for having to read about the new server build. My time is more valuable than that, and can't they come up with better compensation.

We did all get a free merry man worf, a free mariachi q, and two ds9 pack pulls extra in last event. That is far more than any other games I play have given.
You must not play Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. They give away a lot of premium currency (dilithium counterpart) every single day. Every new character released is automatically in your inventory waiting to be unlocked and there are in game missions that allow you to unlock them without spending any money at all. All characters in that game are 7* characters and you can, for free, keep earning shards (think of it as honor toward a citation) to keep adding stars to your characters.
There are no crew slots (everyone has everyone). There are no characters that can't be gotten for free in game (can take some time on ones where the shards only drop in big events).
When they make a mistake, they don't send out energy (chronitons), they send out premium currency (dilithium)
STT = Ebeneezer Scrooge at the beginning of A Christmas Carol
SWGoH = Ebeneezer Scrooge at the end of A Christmas Carol
DB's compensation history is up and down. In the very beginning they have away 5* crew regularly for people who had problems. That was only a brief time, then they locked things down and did very little in the way of compensation. Over time, they have improved, but they are still far below the level of compensation and daily rewards that other games provide.
Opening my inbox and finding chrons is a continually positive part of the game. Complaining about receiving chrons seems ridiculous. Eventually you’re gonna need to use some of your stockpile for leveling a character etc.
Complaining that galaxy events are boring etc.
I’d say your chron complaint kinda dilutes everyone else’s valid complaints about something legit and while there is no one size fits all compensation gift, at least chrons are used by everyone, eventually

Exactly this.
If it wasn't a pay to play for profit game (and company) with many jumping to the defense of capitalism i would simply shrug off the many glitches/bugs that have cost me game resources over the past 2 years.
However i am constantly reminded that db is in it to make money and is not a charity, and that i should not have a 'entitled' attitude. I believe this goes both ways. My time and money spent are not something db is entitled to on a one way basis either. I am not a charity db has the right to.
So when the game does not function as it is supposed to, or not across the board fairly i feel strongly that a ticket for compensation should be the norm. Part of that should include how 'fun' was impacted by the issue.
This is a game. Fun is by definition expected. Like chocolate tastes good (even if you don't like chocolate, it should still be good tasting chocolate you simply don't like). It should never be money for bad tasting chocolate or games that no one should find fun (except masochists)
Too often a ticket is replied to with the dismissal reply of 'thank you for your feedback & will forward to team'. This makes it feel like cs considers the problems occurring part of the 'fun' we should experience and not an aberration we shouldn't be paying for.
I agree it is difficult to project accurately what someone's rank would have been when problems occur during events. That said, it is easy to determine from the rank actually achieved what resources were futilely used when getting to the next reward tier was blocked by game errors. This is easily calculated.
For example, most players know that there is little difference in galaxy event rewards between ranks 1001 & 2000. So if you were unable to break into top 1000, due to game errors, returning the resourcs wasted in climbing rank 2000 to 1001 could be returned to the player, who had they known their bid for top 1000 rewards would be blocked would surely have chosen to use those additional resources elsewhere (they would have stopped at rank 2000) this can equal 1000s of chrons.
All calculated from final ranks & not asking cs to give anyone higher ranking. Same with shuttles. Return boosts, etc used if it turns out game errors caused futile wasting of resources.

Compensation and free stuff may be better in SWGoH, but there were too many major changes to character stats in an attempt to balance. Most of these were "Stealth Nerfs" as well, which were driving everyone crazy and would suddenly, unexpectedly, make someone you invested lots of time and resources in completely useless. (I left the game around the time of "Poe-gate".) Here that doesn't happen very often. Your characters may be outclassed due to the inevitable power creep, but at least you know what you're getting.
