Good times, there will be plenty new DSC crew and plenty other versions of Burnham and other DSC characters within the nxt months.

No matter if you like it or not, it WILL happen. For obvious reasons. And as a sidenote, the fanbase of DSC is growing with every new episode. :p

Are there Nielson or other numbers of the type for streaming?

Yes, online streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, CBS & others have their own data & metrics on viewership.....but they tend to keep very tight-lipped on this information, so I'm sure Zombie Squirrel is being hypothetical.

Isn't cannibalism the eating of your own species? So eating an alien would not qualify you!

Yes, you guys are right, but it is only a hop, skip, and a jump, from eating another humanoid species, and eating "condemned prisoners" of your own.

Besides, if STTNG S06E20 ("The Chase") is correct, we all are of a common ancestry, which would make the label "cannibal" valid >:) !

They had another word for it in either DS9 or Voyager I thought. I might have to start my marathons early this year.

I think when the season ends and people get discovery on dvd or watch them in a free week trial of cbs app more people will see and understand why Discovery is good. They will welcome all the Discovery crew. So if you havent seen the show yet get the crew and then be happy later when you do.

As with all things, I think it has to be realized that 'good' is a subjective term. Just like we have folks who hate voyager and love tng, there's going to be some folks who don't go there.

Its not some magical thing that no matter who you are you see a few eps and are automatically wearing DSC colors.

That being said, it's got some great production values, and should draw at least some level of loyal audience.

    Edit and addendum;

I really feel like folks who aren't enjoying DSC right now, just roll with it, and wait for the next week and see who else is coming. I only know a handful of people who just airlock em all and throw fits when a new character from DSC is added. (Though I know a couple whole fleets who are either watching Orville or something else entirely instead.)

Hmm...so what you are saying is that DB needs to roll out more Burnhams

Yes true Pallidyne. Also for those that dont like discovery, remember it is only the first season. Many of the treks take a while to hit their stride. I also think that because Enterprise was so slow the first season and many fans left that Discovery is trying to overcompensate and do lots of action and surprises to get the show going. I think season 2 will be really great when the writers slow the show down a bit and just have fun with it. Either way, Discovery has been fun and is definitely worth watching. It is so great to have new trek shows after so long. And if you want more tos, watch star trek continues on youtube. It isnt canon but it is really great.

Didn't Star Trek Continues get shut down from making new eps with the new rules Paramount imposed because of Discovery being threatened by their presence? Same with Phase II/New Voyages, Axanar and all other fan productions that are more than 15 minutes?

(Funny as Axanar had some real potential about telling what could have been a better story in the same era as Discovery WITH JG Hertzler, Jeffrey Combs and the late Richard Hatch)
  • More Burnham! SM-G is *almost* the best actor ever to appear in any Star Trek series (that honour is saved for Sir Patrick Stewart).
  • Doesn't matter how many variants of Burnham there are. It's all airlock fuel to me.

    Burnhead **tsk tsk**....
    But really the idea
After discovery season ends it would be good for db to get some scotty, archer, and others overlooked worked in. But we do need some mirror disco crew first.

Once the season is over, I'm looking forward to Offseason Burnham, Relaxing Burnham, Eating Burnham, 22nd Century Holodeck Burnham, Mirror Burnham, Age of Sail Burnham and the much anticipated 1701 Burnham.
    I would like to grab:
I still want a left eye blinkin burnhead/right eye blinkin burnhead, sitting burnhead, sitting and thinking burnhead and for the most sitting and deepfully thinking burnhead

    Edit:
Just forget RAF Burnhead, Mirror mirrored burnhead (because of her role in DIS: the mirror burnhead is already in the upcomming event ->motherhorta (peaceful and quiet))

STD may be a good show (Space Orcs, the main character being a mutineer and war criminal, and Faster-Than-Mold travel suggest otherwise) but does it capture the spirit of Star Trek? There are a lot of mixed opinions on that right now.

*inb4 “Mutineer? But Kirk stole a ship and Picard resigned to fight a Starfleet admiral” comments: those were to save lives, not to open fire on Space Orcs in the hope that they’d back down rather than use it as an excuse to continue hostilities.
  • Or just watch the show so that ratings will be high and cbs will make more trek shows you might like better.
Years ago the head of Warner Brothers video game division talked in an interview about licensed games and why they are usually substandard. He explained that it was all about return on investment.
In brief, if you put X more dollars into development to make a game that is actually good, you expect to get Y more sales because of it. But with a licensed game you won't, because some of the Y people who would buy it if it was good are already buying it because it says Harry Potter on it. And so it is smarter to put your X dollars into a different game.

It's a terrible catch-22: if people don't watch a Star Trek show because it is terrible, the studios and networks decide that means Star Trek doesn't sell. But if people do watch it, the studios and networks decide that means there is no point is spending extra to make the show good, as lots of people will watch any crap if it has the words "Star Trek" in the title.

We need Space Suit Burnham prior to the characters retirement...
    b3lscaiwt5lb.jpeg

If DB does release an EV Suit Burnham that looks anywhere near as cool as this, then I want that card regardless of stats (but good stats would be welcomed). I also want @Secret Journey ’s avatar, and a pony.

If CBS does offer a free trial of their app, then I will sign up and binge-watch DSC Season 1, in order to get some connections in my own head between Burnham & others and this game. I did watch the premiere on CBS broadcast and thought, at the time, that the character of Michael Burnham had many possibilities for character development.

So far, I have generally avoided any spoiler tags and know only that Burnham was a Graduate, First Officer, Prisoner and Tactical (Officer). Four variants of the lead character in the first season might indeed be “overload”, but that depends on if I watch the show, to echo what @Pallidyne posted above about subjectivity.

Yes Paramount and CBS are foolish to impose rules on fan made films and shows. Fan made shows dont cost Paramount and CBS money, it makes them money by keeping the fan base alive and growing. Star Trek Continues is good though and is 12 well done hig quality fan made shows and definitely worth watching on youtube.

True. Problem is Axanar had high production values and was in the same era as Discovery, and so they felt Discovery was threatened by it, which started this whole Draconian madness.

Continues is good, my favorite so far is the ended with a cliffhanger Renegades with Tim Russ and Walter Keonig. I loved the live action Arex moment in Star Trek Phase II/New Voyages.

Burnham - 12 (?) episodes over less than six months = 4 versions

SCOTTY - 64 episodes of TOS (per Memory Alpha), 21 more animated, one TNG episode, and the first 7 movies over 27 years = 4 versions

I {personally} think people think of it as "cannibalism" because even if it is a different race, they are all sentient......

Several groups I'm in track the numbers, and they are released I think on Tuesday after it airs on Netflix outside the US. I was looking for last weeks but of course when you want to find something you never can. I will save the one from this coming week and post it in the off topic section. Where 90% of these convo should be taking place btw.
