- Open up 10 missions of each participating faction; 30 total missions.
- Complete 10 of one single faction.
- Then open up and complete a second 10 missions from the same faction, of which, they will be 90 minute missions. Use the 3* time reduction boost on each.
- Then complete the remaining 20 open missions (10 from the remaining factions) - these missions are short duration missions.
- Once this is complete, you'll be "kickstarted" to 4000 VP mission at 3 hr duration.
Did I get that correct?
100% correct. I'd also add that it's not about how many people know of the kickstart - it's always been about crew, player dedication, and... yeah, RNG. Being at 3560 VP within the first 30 mins of the event means practically nothing. If you have good crew, you can start from the ground up and still comfortably hit top 500-750.
It loses its effectiveness when more people do it. I remember for a couple of months it would be only my fleet and 4 or 5 other people at 3560 VP. Somehow it was leaked or others discovered it. Now kickstarters fill up the leaderboard as far as the eye can see. It's the difference between winning and losing for an F2P like me.
I don't know about that. I remember hearing about the kickstart in universal chat after the Prime Directive was shut down and Unlikely Heroes was put up. It was the first first 3 faction event iirc so it was known early). People were speculating it was a bug because that event was cancelled/replaced. The next event (Second Battle of New York) was when it was confirmed that it was not bug and it was an actual strategy you could use.
Fleets were just social then and you can't archive information from UC so it didn't really spread but most who was playing since near launch knew about it but very few non whales could take advantage of it. Most players didn't have the crew to stay at 4000. Getting to 4000 was a death sentence. I remember failing all the way back down 1800 after getting to 4000 one event. But I also remember missing the whole first day of one event and kickstarting my way to a top 500 finish.
It was the wild wild west back then......good times.
It's interesting that the strategy was known and then somehow was forgotten again. For a long time, the people that did it were visible on one page of the leaderboard. Certainly no more than 30 or 40. I remember being so happy that we had a fleet exclusive secret.
Not really a strategy but definetly a formula for success in Faction events
Ha!! Yes it’s obvious the top leaders put quite a bit of money into it. They must be early recalling shuttles like every time. That’s why I don’t believe VIP 0’s win events. They don’t win faction events, that’s for sure

I noticed the guy on the right isn't shoveling nearly as much money into the flames as the guy on the left. I think a further study needs to be done to see whether there is anything racist going on. LOL
VIP 0 can and has won a Galaxy event, twice, by pre-farming for months and hoarding chrons.
VIP 0 can't win a shuttle event because someone can and will always spend DIL to quickly out-pace them.
Also, the preferred method is to start out strong - send 4K shuttles with 4* or 5* time reductions and instantly recall them for the cheapest value. Build a large lead. Look your competitors in the eyes. Establish dominance. Send a few shuttles with 5* Double Reward/9hr boosts and instantly recall those (560 DIL) to quickly enhance your score. All while never breaking that eye contact.
If you do that long enough, you will come to the end of your 4 day journey a little tired, much lighter in the wallet, and overall have some dry eyes. But no one will ever try and have a staring contest with you again.

Having gotten top 10 in a Galaxy event, and top 15 in a hybrid, after awhile I figured that I didn't have the budget to compete in Faction events at the highest levels (I think 53 is my best showing for straight Faction), since I assumed that some of the mega-whales were using double reward boosts (at least on some of their shuttles) then Dilithium to immediately recall them. So at least I'm somewhat comforted to know that I was apparently correct in that assumption, even if that fact means that when it comes to Faction events I'll likely be stuck forever with loitering in lower ranks than where I'd prefer to be.

During the Mirror Troi event, I used 48 4* boosts, 12 5* boosts, the rest 3*. I also spent 14000 in dilithium early returns. All in only two days of faction yet still only placed 4th going into galaxy. Faction winners spend ALOT!

How the heck do you keep eye contact with your enemies while hitting the right buttons on your phone??? Man, these whales even buy more eyes! No wonder we can't compete...

Sample photo of mega-whale below (not to scale). Note the extra eyes are only on one side of the skull, which means they are obviously not one of the biggest spenders.
(Also note pained expression after looking at their bank statement.)

@Enterprise Was Best
You played with Disturbed? My kids love their cover of Sound of Silence, my daughter so much so, that she learned the original on her guitar. She also plays keyboard. (Sorry, couldn't resist a dad brag.) Knowing that David is his generation's Gene Simmons, just blew them away even more.

I did. Before they were famous at a popular dive bar in Lansing Illinois called JJ Kelly’s. It was a stupid little bar but for some reason it was THE local place to play

So you lost out on LB to Mike Smith...from Snot?!?
Kidding. He's a good guy. Weird, but nice.
It was when they were on the decline. I found out later they were just auditioning people to steal the music they played during the audition. They had no intention of hiring anyone and I do believe they did not put any music out after that. If it was at the start of their career I would not have lost out. Mike Smith played guitar at about a 6th grade level

I did finish 4th by doing this once but can’t do it very often
