Real Historical Figures

edited January 2018 in The Bridge
I got to thinking about how Abraham Lincoln and Leonardo da Vinci have made their way into Timelines, and from there began reviewing other such real historical figures that could be added. Personally, I get a kick out of the idea and would like to see some more of them. Here are the ones I identified:

Albert Einstein (hologram in TNG "Descent")
Amelia Earhart (VOY "The 37's")
Doc Holliday (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Fred Noonan (VOY "The 37's")
Genghis Khan (Excalbian recreation in TOS "The Savage Curtain")
Isaac Newton (VOY "Death Wish"; hologram in TNG "Descent")
Jack London (TNG "Time's Arrow")
Johnny Behan (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Lord Byron (hologram in VOY "Darkling")
Mahatma Gandhi (hologram in VOY "Darkling")
Morgan Earp (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Samuel Clemens (TNG "Time's Arrow")
Sigmund Freud (hologram in TNG "Phantasms")
Stephen Hawking (hologram in TNG in "Descent")
Virgil Earp (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Wyatt Earp (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")

Nit pick, Genghis Khan was an Excalbian recreation.

If you have Earhart, you have to have Fred Noonen too.

There was Hitler in Storm Front (albeit documentary footage).

    Gandhi was in Darkling (Voyager).

Added! Also added Lord Byron from "Darkling".

The likenesses of the actors (and in the case of Hawking and Piscopo, the real people) would still need to be approved.

    How bout Joe Piscopo to

    Added!

Not really a historical figure, and he didn't appear as himself.

I'll add that as I understand it, adding Hitler would make it banned in Germany.

I was going to exclude Hitler on the basis that documentary footage seemed different to me from presenting him as a character, but I figured that since this is just an informal thread by players and not something from game creators, there was no real harm in including him.

Gonna strike him on the basis that in any event, he's clearly never going to be added for the obvious reasons.

Samuel Clemens should definitely be in the game as he was a pivotal character in two episodes of TNG. Amelia Earhart and Stephen Hawking would be great as well.

I thought about him, as well as Redjac in "Wolf in the Fold", but they're both fictitious characters based on real historical figures. (Plus, of course, Redjac was only seen in the forms of people it possessed.)

I would pay for Mark Twain, but I care nothing special for any of the others. I would like them, but wouldn't go out of my way to get them. I have always liked Mark Twain and read a great number of his books multiple times. I've even read two of them in French when I was living there a bit over 20 years ago.

I don't want anyone who is still alive, so Hawking is out of the running in my book.
I'd also want to go for who had a strong impact on the episode they were in, not just a cameo.

    Deserve a character
Leonardo da Vinci - 3 episodes in VOY, main character in one of the episodes
Abraham Lincoln - main character in his episode in TOS
Amelia Earhart - main character in the VOY episode she was in
Fred Noonan - semi-main character in the VOY episode he was in (iffy about wanting him though)
Samuel Clemens - main character in the TNG episode he was in

    Don't deserve a character imo
    Albert Einstein - cameo only
    Isaac Newton - cameo only
Jack London - side-character, not revealed until late who he actually was
Joe Piscopo - is he really that famous though? Oh wait, he's still alive too, so it's a no from me.
    Lord Byron - cameo only
    Mahatma Gandhi - cameo only
    Sigmund Freud - cameo only

Don't remember the episode well enough to say
Genghis Khan (Excalbian recreation in TOS "The Savage Curtain")
Doc Holliday (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Johnny Behan (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Morgan Earp (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Virgil Earp (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Wyatt Earp (Melkotian recreation in TOS "Spectre of the Gun")
Admiral of the Haus of GaghGagh, Starbase level 94, we are not accepting members at this time.

Amenities include wifi, fully-functioning holodecks, a full-service bar, 3 party decks, a Trill spa, and a business centre.

Lol the Genghis Khan and Abe Lincoln are characters in the same ep! GK was on the 'evil' or opposition team.

Even though we don't find out he's Jack London until the end of "Time's Arrow, Part II", the character is central to both parts, enough that I would say he merits a card even if he weren't London. (A 3*, but still a card.)

Freud was more than a cameo in "Phantasms". Data consulted him a few times in that episode, and it was Freud who helped Data put things together. Besides, psychiatry is a MED field.

Maybe the irony is that we play because we’re Star Trek fans, those hopeful idealists that like to think things will get better when we raise valid concerns about fairness and balance, etc and we forget that DB’s greed openly mocks the values espoused by the franchise they have a license
