We need raids

Wow, there is a lot of hostility to each other on these forums.

Now that the OP has clarified that he means PVE raids, what do people think?

    The pros are:
    1) That it might give us something to do with all of those ships we have lying around if it is designed properly.
    2) Might make use of the nice graphics that they employ in the PvP system already in place
    3) More loot!
    4) Honestly, and this is important, it's something to do!

    The cons are:
    1) That it further disadvantages players outside of fleets or in small fleets
    2) That it might get rolled into the daily missions, and so become essentially non-optional

Any further thoughts on the pros and the cons?

Sounds horrific, but I agree there needs to be a better Arena/Ship battle focus. At the moment there is no point to Arena battles, the battles are too short and the AI is rather stupid.

If there is a fleet wide ship focus I would suggest some kind of cooperative NPC raids you could do which dropped loot.

They would also need to balance the ships so that we have to use a mix of ships to pound harder targets/tank damage versus more maneuverable fighters to escort/take out smaller targets.

At the moment there is no such gameplay/skill related to ship battles and it is more a RND/dice/click fest.

Copy SWGOH instead of fighting a rancor have the fleet battle a Borg Tactical cube allowing every player to use their current ships to damage the cube until all their ships are destroyed and once their ship is destroyed there’s a cool down on using them again.

Having 50 captains utilise all their ships to damage and destroy the cube the rewards are then distributed to everyone in the fleet. Nobody is competing against each other and nobody loses resources (with the exception of using dil on refreshing ships)
  • Exactly Q, the rancor battle in GOH was exactly what I was envisioning.

A while back I suggested a new feature which would/could be used in a way that makes use of those other ships, pass the time, gain more loot etc.

Didn't get much feedback but personally I would prefer either this or some sort of trading - rather than implementing raiding regardless of whether it was PVE or PVP.

Starbase construction, in one vein, is just a really really boring implementation of a PvE raid, right?

Good point. The implentation is poor, but yes essentially,

I can think of a few metrics that might be fun.

    1. The first has already been discussed, have an alien attack the federation and each fleet gets awarded rewards based on how many ships they shoot down. There would be no involvement with other fleets at all.
    2. The second would be more of a competitive thing, which would work a bit like Risk where a group of fleets fight over a region of space and have to balance attacking other regions with defending their own. There would be awards based on who owned what at the end of the battle

Neither of these would result in people stealing resources from starbases etc. if that happened it would be a horrible game IMO I hate the games where you log in every morning to find that you have lost resources that you have spent weeks gathering

I'd like there to be added fleet mechanics, and the idea of maybe protecting your starbase or something from time to time would be fun.

    Alternate idea:

Since fleets can now select an icon thing (Federation, Klingon, etc), that could be used as a mechanic to assign the fleet a certain "loyalty" to that faction. This could theoretically allow for a PvP scenario, with Klingon fleets raiding Romulan fleets and whatnot. Also, it could change the look of your starbase.

I’d like to see a Wolf 359 battle with this mechanic, which I think could be scaled to not box out lower level players/fleets by breaking it into three tiers based on the star level of the ship. Beating tier 1 (1-2 star ships) against a Borg scout ship permanently unlocks tier 2 (3-4 star) against three Borg spheres, which in turn unlocks tier 3 against the cube. By making each ship/crew available only once per raid (refreshing every 24 hours), DB could monetize not only the collection of ships, but also a large enough roster to crew them.
My personal opinion is that the main prize should be honor, but a new currency for some kind of fleet store (selling components, citations, and a new 5* character) would also be fun, and encourage players to build up the largest collection they could.

Or have active players organise squads to take on the cube

Why make it necessarily a fleet activity? Don't get me wrong, I like fleet activities. But there's no need to disadvantage those who aren't in "the best" mega-whale fleets, or choose not to be in fleets at all. It could be a random sampling of players from all levels, banded together as one. Oh, the harmony.

I love both of these ideas especially #2. Love to see something that is some what like the game of Risk for the map besides the voyages feature. Plus be great when battles don't solve anything then its diplomacy for whatever how many weeks between two or more factions that have agreed to peace for and add some story behind why these battles/wars have occurred and such to. Or the other way around when diplomacy fails then war breaks out.

Raids and plundering belong in pirate games not in in Trek. There is nothing fun about stealing another players hard earned things. I quit a game i had spent some money on because they eventually allowed raiding. I could never get ahead because those who spent more stole what I built. That isn’t what Trek is about and I hope they never even think about implementing something like that.

Captain Kirk pickpocketed keys from an Ekosian corporal in 2268. (TOS: "Patterns of Force")

Em/3/Green was a master thief and a lockpick. (TAS: "The Jihad")

Shortly after the Federation takeover of Deep Space 9 in 2369, Odo accused Quark of being a thief and a gambler. Quark denied the thief accusation and added that even he were one, Odo hadn't been able to prove it for four years. (DS9: "Emissary")

Later that year, Odo called the Rakhari Croden a killer and a thief. (DS9: "Vortex")

Again that year, a Dopterian pickpocket stole several items from patrons in Quark's Bar, including Lwaxana Troi. Constable Odo later told Commander Benjamin Sisko that he knew how to handle killers and thieves, but not Lwaxana Troi. (DS9: "The Forsaken")

In the Ancient West holoprogram, Worf accused the character of Eli Hollander of being a thief, prior to his arrest. (TNG: "A Fistful of Datas")

In 2371, Quark accused his brother Rom of being a thief after Quark discovered missing items from his bar in Rom's quarters. (DS9: "Prophet Motive")

Trelos Vren once tried to break into Deep Space 9's assay office, and in 2372, tried to take up pickpocketing. (DS9: "Indiscretion")

Razka Karn was a smuggler, thief and black marketeer, with at least twelve outstanding warrants for his arrest on Cardassia as of 2372. (DS9: "Indiscretion")

Garak was skilled at pickpocketing. (DS9: "Things Past")

This post reads like “Kirk stole a key from an alien Nazi, therefore we should be able to steal as much loot as we possibly can in raids on other players.”

PvE raids make sense. Fighting off waves of Borg ships, raiding a rogue Jem’Hadar base for supplies, sending a ship to fight the Crystalline Entity...not raiding each other. I don’t think Starfleet would be very interested in their captains shooting at each other.
