I'm never tempted beyond the 5,000 credit spin any longer. At least half the days, the 5* grand prize is one I already have FF and most days the 4* crew offered are also FF. The bottom row is usually nothing I can use and it's almost a lock that your first 5 spins will be at the bottom, so what is the incentive to use dilithium?
The "simplest" way to avoid this Dabo result is to have many characters with unlocked equipment slots at multiple levels.
Crew that aren't FF can make up the base of your basic and common needs. Crew that are FF can be leveled until it unlocks desirable equipment. Look for high chron and faction items. I recommend ~10 items at every rarity level.
I prioritize equipment unlocks over most other considerations when leveling. Unless I need a character for an event or need crew slots, there's generally no reason to power level them. It's also a handy way to "bookmark" components for ad warp missions or replicator uses.
This is generally how I approach it too and you can see the vast majority in the selection are equipable save 1 or 2 general components - my issue is not only do i get one that isn't equipable but it is so specialised I won't use it again and it becomes nothing more than replicator fuel (ineffective fuel at that).
I am in agreement that it is a frustrating result. Worse still when it happens with a Gauntlet prize box. It's not a perfect "strategy" by any means and requires lots of unleveled crew to execute effectively, but this game appears to be largely designed around inducing irritating levels of frustration in the playerbase. Sometimes that frustration is going to boil over regardless of mindfulness, but you do what you can.
For reference though, how many basic equipment items do you currently have unlocked across your crew? I have approximately 30, with several of those being doubles or triples. These days I tend to encounter airlocked crew items more so than the random items, but that's still a relatively rare occurrence and largely due to my own impatience/carelessness.
Has anyone actually ever got something from the top row? I've been playing over six months, do two spins per day every day.... and have yet to get a single item from the top row.
I've drawn a 4* character card twice, its unique as before the result, Lyta appears saying something like, "You never know who you will meet at the Dabo table" or something.
I use the 5000 credit spin and then walk away. The wheel will never cough up a 5* or even a 4* 99.99% of the time. I've been playing for 2+ years and I've got a 4* once ever.
Since you get exclusive items in Dabo (also crew that is not in the regular portals yet, even brand new crew such as Senator Vreenak when he came out on the first day in Dabo already) ... so why not brand new ship schematics (such as the Vulcan gold ship or the Discovery-era ships)?

I would say I have about half my roster (55) level 40s or below admittedly they are all the 1 of 4s purples but I have a good mix from Level 40 down to 10 - but I always level crew to the highest level in that tier so I am notified when items have been either casually unlocked or identified for Dabo (and Gauntlet).

I have been playing a little over a year and a half. Hit the top row i think three times. Mirror Regent Worf, Drunk Troi, and someone else possibly a 4*. First two were before they nerfed it. Before the nerf you would get schematics about 60-70% of the time. It was very consistent.

I’d probably spend more on Dabo other than the 5000 credits if they’d just update the schematics used.
Weirdly enough, I’m also Vulcan Housewife. Also, RNGesus hates me, like really, REALLY hates me.
Well I just got the 5* on the 5000 credit spin. Second time it has happened in two years. Problem is I already have Lissan immortalized
Should that even be possible? I was under the impression that Dabo only picked crew that you need. I don't think I've ever seen a crew I didn't need.
I think the legendary for dabo is just random. It doesn't have to be a legendary you already have or one that you don't have immortalized just a random legendary. The super rares do appear to actually look to see what you may need (I don't know what pool they would pull from if you have all immortal super rares but probably just pick one at random at that point)

Finished third in her event and bought the DYC for immortalization
I know its possible to immortalize her. I was just wondering why the Dabo would give you a 5* you didn't need. I never really looked too closely since I only have two 5* immortals. You should go fishing with CS anyways. You might get lucky.

You know I prolly should give it a shot! Also, I just showed her immortalized so I can prove I spoke the truth

I just looked at the top of the Dabo screen. It does say the rewards are customized to you
Put in a ticket. Got a swift tough luck type answer. Not bitter at all. It was worth a shot. Hoping not to cross the line and get deleted as I have no bad intentions, but the response was roughly not every offered crew member will be one you do not have, one that is desirable to you, or useable immediately. I just felt it was worth the try cuz getting the legendary NEVER happens and the one time (actually second for me) it happens in two years it’s someone already FF. Great luck but tough luck at the same time
It doesn’t frustrate me because I only ever play the 5000 credits. Once I realized how bad the odds are, and how poor the customization is, I just stopped caring. I still spin it every day, but don’t expect anything.

This is the thing if it truly was customisable the top row would consist of a legendary, one you don't have, a legendary citation and a super rare citation then SR+ item equipable to one of your current crew. If they increased the chances and revamped the purchases, maybe more people would be inclined to try for multiple spins instead of suffering duplicate 10* pull misery.
I guess the thing that really frustrates is we know it's a bent system but it doesn't have to be that way and still make decent revenue for DB.

I do agree with you. The legendary should either be someone I don’t have OR don’t have immortalized. Since it is only 1/5 that is given, anything from 0 to 4 stars would be customized to me. Only thing that wouldn’t be is if I have that crew at 5*, which I did. Considering I only have 36 immortal legendaries, I don’t think that’s too much to ask

This really is the unofficial slogan of Timelines itself...

It’s suppose to work like that but screws up all the time. At least for me and a few others that is.
