Dabo - is this another root of players frustration?

Not sure if anybody else has had this happen to them but I did my daily spin and...

I got Voqs armour - I already have him immortalised what is the point of having items you will never use again. All other items are usable to a degree...

At some point they changed the prize table and stuck in randomized items. It used to be more "customized to you", but lately I've been getting items for crew that I don't have.

5k credits is such a small investment that the mere chance at getting something useful is worth it.
  • You got 5K-credit worth of Replicator fuel.

It's not entirely pointless. And if you get frustrated for having wasted 5K credits... I don't know how you find the strength to play this game otherwise.

I play it for 3* Equipment. Its easy to game the Dabo so it almost always puts up fresh customized equipment although admittedly I'm too lazy to do even that sometimes.

As an addendum it would be nice to see what fuel I'm throwing in the Replicator before hand. You can check if you have more than one of an item but not a single item.

And also superiour equipment storage sorting. You made the Vault all nice and neat, I'm sure you can do the same for equipment.

I like it in concept - the slot machine trope in games is a classic. But as a F2P player, it'd be nice if there were a few more layers of credit-only spins. 5K, 10K, 20K, etc... even if it's just 3-5.
Come join the Steeler Nation Fleet!
  • I pretty much just do the 2 spins (5k credits and 10 dil) on the off chance of a good drop, best stuff I've gotten for it has all been schematics though.

I usually just spin and am happy with a result. But, had a fleet member post something about this today as well. She had a 0* Borg Queen Body Suit, I looked at my Dabo for today, and noticed I had a 1* Mirror Vic Fontain Clothing. I do not own a Mirror Vic yet.

@Shan can you look into Dabo dropping items for crew people do not own, or have immortalized?
  • Dabo's supposed to be rigged anyway, so it never bothered me

It would be going too far to characterize my reaction to Dabo as "frustration", but "disappointment" is appropriate. I think I roll my eyes even more at the stuff that gets added to the rewards table because someone I've dismissed can use it. I only make the 5000 credit spin. I wasn't feeling well this past weekend and either didn't spin at all on Saturday or didn't make note of what I got if I did spin. Of the 17 days here in April that I have notes, though, I've gotten:

5 items/components without any specific use
5 sets of schematics for ships I've had maxed since last year at the most recent
2 crew-specific item for crew I already have immortalized
2 crew-specific items for crew I do not and have never had
2 items populated in the table for cadets dropped in Voyages that I'd already dismissed
1 item used immediately by a crew member I was actively working to equip
  • Dabo is rigged, which I am fine with because Quark wouldn’t have it any other way. I do miss the old dabo loot chances before the original nerf. That must be over a year ago now.

Just wanted to clarify one small point, I did say "root" as in a contributing factor to the frustration not the sole cause of it.

Has anyone actually ever got something from the top row? I've been playing over six months, do two spins per day every day.... and have yet to get a single item from the top row.

Been playing since the start of this, over two years I think. Hit the top row once, a 4* Uhura iirc.

It's rigged but 5k is small change really.
  • This kind of thing happens to me almost every day. My Dabo gets loaded with tons of junk items. That is to say, items I have absolutely no use for because either I don’t have that crew member or I already have them immortalized. As I understand it, the Dabo table is suppose to personalize itself with items and equipment you actually need based on your current roster. It’s definitely not doing that about 70 percent of the time or more.

This wasn’t always the case. Before some of the major updates, I don’t recall exactly what version but it would have been quite some time ago, maybe a year and half ago, the Dabo table actually worked like it was suppose to. I would always, ALWAYS, get items that pertained to my crew roster, but then an update occurred and it started doing this weird stuff all the time.

And I’m not just talking about the bottom row. I’ve gotten equipment on the second row that were for immortalized crew as well as crew I don’t even have there as well. As for the top row, it’s just as bad. There’s always a major piece of equipment, purple or gold, up there and it’s been unusable before as well.

The equipment isn’t the only issue though. I’ve had the Dabo crew be unusable as well, including the jackpot character. The listed characters have often been either ones I’ve already immortalized or ones I’ve fully fused. Even the jackpot character has been in those categories as well. That is a major annoyance for me. I mean, I know I’ll never win the jackpot, but it’s still a bit disheartening when you see that the jackpot crew is someone you have already immortalized.
Weirdly enough, I’m also Vulcan Housewife. Also, RNGesus hates me, like really, REALLY hates me.

I suspect Dabo might switch over to a random selection from the universal catalogue of items if your own personal list of "unlocked, but incomplete" items is too small. I generally have a lot of characters in progress, and usually I can see from which one it picked each item from. However, if I fill too many of the open slots, and don't train the crewmembers further to open up new slots, I see things getting a bit screwy.

It probably does this to avoid players being able to game the system too severely.

Sorry for being pedantic, but saying "root" actually DOES imply that it's the base cause of the issue and is probably the...ahem...root of any confusion in this thread.

I know we have plenty of non-primary English speakers, but normal usage of the idiom would indicate that you're implying this is the basis of all player frustration.

Get something decent often enough that it does not bother me one bit. Often take the 10 dil spin and if I never got anything good I would have stopped doing that long ago. I have hit the top row twice in a year. Once I got a 4* char. The other time I hit the equipment slot on that row. I think it was a legendary teddy bear for Bashir, Julian Bashir.

No my implication is there are many roots this is just "another one" that leads to frustration. Just like a tree has many roots.
You can be pedantic all you want just don't try and turn my words around.

Also I am not implying it as a basis for ALL player frustration, hence the question mark at the end of the sentence and the word is at the beginning - It is open to debate or discussion, not a dictate.

Also the comment "i'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else" would be applicable at this juncture - because initially I thought all items available in dabo were either equipable to any of your crew or are the components in the build, and not ones that you have already built or are specific to a particular crew that you either don't have or is immortalised.

I am quite frankly appalled by some of these comments.

I believe the usage of the word "Another" implies more than one root cause.

  • The "simplest" way to avoid this Dabo result is to have many characters with unlocked equipment slots at multiple levels.

Crew that aren't FF can make up the base of your basic and common needs. Crew that are FF can be leveled until it unlocks desirable equipment. Look for high chron and faction items. I recommend ~10 items at every rarity level.

I prioritize equipment unlocks over most other considerations when leveling. Unless I need a character for an event or need crew slots, there's generally no reason to power level them. It's also a handy way to "bookmark" components for ad warp missions or replicator uses.

Having fully equipped all my crew recently, i then found this out. I am taking this same approach with the new crew i have since acquired.

This is generally how I approach it too and you can see the vast majority in the selection are equipable save 1 or 2 general components - my issue is not only do i get one that isn't equipable but it is so specialised I won't use it again and it becomes nothing more than replicator fuel (ineffective fuel at that).
