Interesting. I'm assuming MED and DIP for sure...would we get a third skill?

Since its Bell Riots Bashir, SEC?

What all did he do in that episode? I don't remember the details.

Probably DIP/MED/SEC, given how things unfolded in that episode, but you never know.

He could just end up with CMD/DIP/SEC or something.

There were certainly better Bashir options, but I liked the Bell Riots episodes so I'm okay with it.

Me too but mostly because he's not going to be eng primary.

It seems to me that Roga Danar would be the more sensible recurring crew. Sure he's the bad guy of the event but that doesn't mean he can't be the recurring crew.

Me as well, but because there were SO many other possibilities, it just seems like DB took the easy way out...oh well, just make it another Bashir....

  • many of us were hoping for ENG primary. hopefully he will still have some ENG... And Danar would definitely been a more interesting choice, we've had "villains" many times as recurring characters... too late now

Everyone wanted some Engineering recurring character but Bashir does make sense. Funny how over the last 6+ months it went from MED being what everyone wanted and needed to know Engineering
  • This isn’t to do with Bashir but since the last event is ‘The Weak Will Perish’ shouldn’t we be getting a Species 8472?

Just making sure I didn't read it wrong. So DS9 crew won't be bonus crew (like Discovery crew were for their mega), unless they happen to be featured? Only Augments?

Guess I picked the wrong crew to level these past few weeks...

    Yep.

Of course, it's more likely that the DS9 gang will be bonus for some events vs other crew, so your time wasn't necessarily all wasted.

Wow. That's an extremely tiny number of bonus crew for a mega (compared to previous megas)

Only 12 Augments in the game. 6 of them are 5* so most players won't have them. 3 of them are 1-3* so not really useful. That means for most players there are 3 viable Augments in the game (if they are lucky enough to have them).

Unless all the crew each week are DS9 main cast so their variants count, it's going to be slim pickings for most.

Ugh. Why can't all DS9 crew provide a bonus?
  • I'm a fan of both of these moves.

Bashir is the obvious recurring character as the only main cast Augment on Deep Space Nine. Since the mashup was announced he's been mentioned repeatedly as the most logical candidate, and he is. The Bell Riots is maybe the most appropriate version, too, given the way the themes of that episode dovetail with the general themes of the Eugenics war. From a story perspective: excellent choice.

Moreover, from a player perspective, MED remains one of the more difficult specialties to find, despite the (laudable) use of Katrina Cornwell as a megaevent character. So from a gameplay perspective (depending on his exact stats) that works, too.

(I'll add - the two-part Past Tense episode which Bashir is lifted from was also a first-rate episode, one of the highlights of the first three seasons of DS9. 'But he's pretending to be homeless, so he's not epic!' is an extremely shallow counterargument to a strong character from a strong episode who is a good fit both tonally and gameplay wise for the player base.)

As for limiting the crew to Augments, not having a zillion megaevent characters reduces the amount of continuing strain on crew slots, since we'll be starting from a lower number of bonus crew. My assumption is that with DS9 main cast mixed in, the actual number of bonus crew will be fairly reasonable anyway; the difference being that you can shuttle them in and out as the event goes on rather than holding on to an increasing number over a four-week period. That's not a concern to me personally, but for newer budget players it can be a real challenge.

    Overall it's a sensible approach.

Was ideally hoping for a straight up Dr. Julian Bashir in the gray uniform for the recurring, but okay. Seems odd that Bell Riots Bashir is a Legendary when Gabriel Bell...isn’t.

But, hey, new Sisko on the way, so that’s cool.

You know, we haven't had a straight up DIP primary for a MEGA character. Couldn't hurt, he was there to help Gabriel Bell Sisko negotiate.

    DIP-SEC-MED?

My current highest base DIP is Prisoner Katrina Cornwell, so it would be nice to have an actual DIP primary character represent that spot.

I'm down for him being recurring. This sounds like it could weave an interesting plot. I've enjoyed some of the Bashir novelizations as well so interested in a new story with him in the center.

That would invert the secondary & tertiary skills of 007Bashir, so maybe not. I haven't watched DS9 in forever and a day, so I do not recall the episode and am unsure as to which makes more sense for a third skill, CMD or ENG. I could live with ...

    MED-DIP-ENG

Wondering what Enemy Lines Sisko will be? Something from the Siege of AR558 I'm guessing which would be cool.

Bell riots Bashir is a good card for a mega event character - first proper major character from a series to get a mega event recurring which is a nice touch.

I love the pick, personally, for all the reasons @[FF] Vice Admiral Nairne gave. Plus, there's one game play advantage Bell Riots Bashir has over Mirror Jean-Luc Picard: Because all Bashir variants are Augments, they'll qualify for event bonuses all month long anyway. (Exception: Changeling Bashir, who isn't actually Bashir anyway.)

Would I have preferred an ENG-primary recurring 5*? Sure. But rather than focus on who the recurring 5* isn't, I'm choosing to focus on who it is, and who it is is a great choice in my eyes. Plus, there's no telling who else will turn up throughout the month who might be the ENG we've been waiting for.

So are we not going to see any of the augments from ds9 except bashir? We ant Admiral Patrick and the rest of the ds9 augment group! Do ds9 crew not give bonus all month long except when their character is in an event?

I'm glad Bashir is the recurring. Disappointed all DS9 crew aren't bonus crew throughout the event, though. Oh well. At least I worked on all my Bashirs before starting on Prisoner O'Brien, Cardassian Kira and all my Odos.
Also, looks like I need to keep Augment Riker, instead of airlocking him every time I get him for being non-canon.

  • I'm loving Bell Riots Bashir for the recurring: one (well, two) of my all time favorite episodes from any series, and I agree this version fits the theme they've described. Should be an undercover operative, appropriate for a plot based around Bashir trying to infiltrate the augment group.

Guessing Med/Sec/Dip, based on the episode. (Med for sure: he treated the injured kid as well as one of the hostages, and pointed out how easy it would be to treat the mentally ill people in the sanctuary, if anyone gave a damn. Security seems likely, since he's helping to guard the hostages through the whole second part. Diplomacy perhaps, since he's trying to help "Bell" keep hostages from being killed while they all negotiate, though that one's a lot less certain.)

Apollo, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we still get Admiral Patrick et al. one week! Maybe Bashir will need to call in some backup while infiltrating Roga's Augments, and call in the Jack Pack to help...
