Arguments such as “JJ Abrams Trek isn’t canon” and “It’s an alternate Universe” make absolutely no sense. We’re talking about a game that is LITERALLY about all the different multiverses/incarnations of Trek coming together in one place—every version is represented, including the comic book TNG mirror universe. Not to mention some bizarre non-canon characters like the recent Reverend Odo.
You don’t have to like JJ Trek, but to claim it has no right to be in Timelines makes no logical sense! It certainly has as much if not more of a right than Mirror TNG ( which I love btw but...come on. I’d never even heard of it till I played this game and I’ve been a Trekkie for almost 30 years.) Same with all y’all whining about Discovery. The point of the game is that it blends all these incarnations together. There’s something for every fan. If you need a safe space where all that exists is TOS or 90s Trek, then this may not be the game for you.
The REAL answer why there’s no JJ-verse represented in Timelines (and possibly never will be) is that the modern Star Trek film properties belong to Paramount. DB’s deal is with CBS, which owns the rest of Star Trek. They would need to sign a separate deal with Paramount in order to have the rights to the JJ-verse. It’s that simple. DB would probably love to get their hands on it, to attract new players and make more money, but I’m willing to bet the rights are very expensive.
Note: some people do make the distinction that it’s *because* JJ-verse is owned by Paramount and not CBS, this makes the JJ-verse not official canon. I personally disagree, but I respect that more than “JJ-verse isn’t canon because it suxxxx”. Also, CBS was owned by Paramount until 2006 (hence the Paramount logo in the credits for TNG, DS9, VOY; and ENT aired on the Paramount Network), and there was supposed to be a deal this year for a re-merger but it fell through. So basically the last decade CBS and Paramount have been like divorced parents who constantly have custody battles over their Trek children.

And with former chairman and CEO of CBS Corporation, Les Moonves, now out on his tuchas, there are all sorts of new questions being asked. Moonves was one of the biggest opponents to the CBS/Viacom merger (Viacom being Paramount's corporate daddy), and he also spearheaded the creation of CBS All Access, which is home to Discovery (and was announced to be home to several new Trek series). The latest is that no merger would be reattempted at least for another two years, but will the new CEO have less resistance to such a merger? Will he also have the same desire to keep all those new Treks on track, and keep them all exclusive to that service? Who knows. I figure it'll probably happen at some point, but whether Timelines is even still going to be around when it does is another question entirely.

I voted no only because if this happened, we'd likely have a stampede of new Kelvin-line characters thrown at us, similar to when Discovery started, which primarily serve the purpose of over-statting the prime-line characters.
I think there could be some interesting additions from the Kelvin-line, such as Survival Gear Kirk, Family Man Sulu, Jaylah, Commodore Paris, or Greg Grunberg's character (because why not, Greg Grunberg's secretly in everything). But there are just too many prime-line characters which haven't been touched yet from major episodes that, at least in my opinion, would fit better in game.
My 8-Point STT Strategy:
1. Voyage.
2. Have fun. If something isn't fun, don't do it.
3. Only pursue characters I care about.
4. Contribute to the fleet.
5. No more spending beyond monthly cards.
6. Have fun.
7. Voyage.
8. Have fun!
Okay, I have posted this in another thread, but to clarify the Star Trek licensing issues behind the Kelvin universe, this video explains it quite succinctly, and it is not very long – worth a watch.
The Kelvin timeline, though it would be good for this game, was a complete dumpster fire. J.J should stick to original content. Every franchise he's touched has ended up pissing in the faces of the long time fans.
The Guardians of Tomorrow Protecting the Galaxy's Future from itself
JJ Abrams made Star Trek and Into Darkness as an audition for Star Wars.
You say that like it's a bad thing. 😁
It was great for JJ and Star Wars. For Trek - yes it was terrible.
Was terrible for Star Wars too. He did the same thing with Star Wars that he did with Star Trek; throw out everything that used to be cannon and start over.

I would like the JJ Trek characters only because I have a huge crush on Chris Pine and I wouldn't mind that eye candy in game. Also some of the one-off characters were cool like Jaylah and Nero.
How about a compromise then: much like that Odo we got with him on M*A*S*H, how about we give you a non-canon Chris Pine with him playing a DS9 janitor or something?
Yes, absolutely! Chris Pine's Kirk would be the first Kirk I wouldn't airlock. And a Karl Urban Bones! His traits would be Med, Science and Handsome, definitely a 5* gold.

That's just simply incorrect and not factual. Disney and Lucasfilm did away with the EU, but there was nothing - not one thing - that was undone canon in TFA.

And the word is spelled "canon". This is a "cannon":
Aren't they in different Universes? I don't think we need any more TOS copies.
The problem with that logic is that we already have alternate universe characters in the game. We have mirror universe, and an alternate universe where the TNG crew were Augments. There's also the Mirror Universe TNG comic crew which might be an alternate mirror universe.
Something I never really see mentioned when it comes to JJ-Kelvin, but it has always bothered me... why does a mining vessel need torpedoes capable of ripping apart starship-class shielding and a relatively-tiny energy drill capable of burning a hole down to a planet's core in roughly 15 minutes? The JJ-Enterprise's shields could barely hold off the mining ship - and they were supposed to be contemporary technology at that point (granted, from different timelines). Was the Romulan ship stat-creeped, or was the Kelvin-verse nerfed relative to the Prime timeline?
The new Trek game covers the JJ Verse.. Kill the JJ characters here and give us some reasonable compensation to cover what we put into building those characters up so that we can build up our current stock and have Chron's and Dilithium for future Trek crew additions to our crew base.
If not then simply don't add any more JJ verse or Discovery crew to STT so we can concentrate on the canon crew. let the JJ verse and Discovery geeks go play the new Trek game.

I have two guesses here:
1) Late 24th-century mining torpedoes are really powerful and take advantage of all the technical improvements made over the preceding century.
2) Nero and his crew stole Klingon torpedoes after/during their prison break and adapted them to work in the Narada’s tubes.
I tend to go with #1...imagine a WWI destroyer going up against an early 19th-century sailing ship. It’s not a perfect analogy, of course, though I think it is appropriate.

That's what I always assumed as well. Future tech is just that much more impressive than then tech of young Enterprise crew's lifetime.
