I see what they're doing here. Elizabeth Dehner was played by Sally Kellerman. Odo, of course, was played by René Auberjonois, and Antaak was played by John Schuck. All three starred in the movie version of M*A*S*H: Kellerman as "Hot Lips", Auberjonois as Father Mulcahy, and Schuck as Capt. 'Painless' Waldowski (the character for which the theme song "Suicide is Painless" was written).
So, the Army Chaplain Odo is almost certainly Father Mulcahy. Very strange non-canon diversion, but I've gotta say, I'm kind of fond of the idea, bizarre as it is.
I wonder if that was intentional or just a coincidence
Apparently, my previous post wasn't constructive enough. I'm opposed to the addition of Christian symbolism and propaganda in a game that is based on Star Trek. None of Star Trek's many television series and films include Christian indoctrination, and I'm dismayed to see two Christian characters added to the game in the span of a month. Not only is a chaplain wearing a cross not canonical, but it's also antithetical to Star Trek and a vision of the future that is based on cooperation and tolerance, rather than oppression and forced conversion.
Holy you're just reading way too much into it. Is it only because it's non-canon type stuff? If they released a Priest Doctor from Fair Haven would you have the same issue?

Makes sense, probably much more recognizable to fans of TOS who might be aware of this link. Unfortunately I hated the MASH movie, but loved the show so I'm ok with it.

Same here. The movie, and many of the actors, was blah. The show was phenomenal

The Animated Series had Satan (Lucien) a Christian figure
Star Trek V had huge Christian themes and references
Bread and Circuses from the original series made specific reference to "Jesus the Son of God"
Who Mourned for Adonis from the Original Series had Kirk stating "Mankind has no need for gods. We find the One quite adequate"
Christmas is a part of several episodes of several series
All of that was found with a quick search. There were a lot more references (especially involving Christmas) but didn't want to go for overkill in making a point.
They are detailed here http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Christmas
Unfortunately I hated the MASH movie, but loved the show so I'm ok with it.

I thought the movie was okay. But yeah, the TV series was 10000% better, in almost every way. (Except I personally feel Kellerman was a better Margaret than Swit was.)
Oh, and let's not feed the troll, my friends. This thread could devolve easily and quickly. Just add him to your ignore list, and move on.

Dude, relax. I’m annoyed by bible thumpers as much as anyone. Trust me when I tell you that when they show up at my door to sell me god, I thoroughly enjoy harshing their mellow. But Reverend Phlox is canon. Odo, I’m not sure about. It’s not like they’re sending us a prayer of the day or anything. I’d definitely have a problem with that if they did. But I don’t think it’s their agenda to shove Christianity down our throats. Like Data said, they’re just trying to get these characters together because of their connection on MASH. It’s like an Easter egg. And if you’re really THAT morally opposed to it, just skip the characters. Or get them and airlock them if it makes you feel better. I’m not trying to minimize your feelings, I just think you’re taking it way too personal. Mountains out of molehills and all that...

You are right. I am of no religious denomination but have feelings about what I said. I said it, it’s over, and as you suggest, I am ready to move back on topic. So? How bout that Dominion thing huh? One advantage of never using the vault
Sooooooo I may be out on a lonesome limb here but there's been so much negativity on the forums lately (with good reason)
buuuuut I'm going to focus on the positive.
Like the fact that I didn't freeze all my dominion crew, because as a new(er) player a good chunk of them were still useful to me. Therefore next week I'm hoping I'll have a good start. I've a couple of Odos at 2/4 and Thot Gor who dropped just a few days ago to work on once I've finished Keiko and Mirror Picard (I KNOW, sooooo excited when he dropped for me last week)
Also, I have Antaak immortilised.
Maybe this event is very frustrating for older players but for new ones its a refreshing change to have some actual bonus crew for an event that starts with factions. Plus, the new 4* will be FF at the end due to community rewards, and we all get a premium pack to pull as well 😊
Great post and glad you are looking forward to it. My response was more just, grrr, I just froze them all darnnit! Got that off my chest, immediately moving on and continuing to enjoy this game. No pitchforks, torches, or gates needed.
Unfortunately I hated the MASH movie, but loved the show so I'm ok with it.

(shrug) I usually find that even if you feed the militant Freedom from Religion folks you can usually frustrate them into a stoke or coronary fairly easily.
That being said, I find it interesting the amount of rather than game vitriol we've had political and religious in extra helpings today.
There an odd moon phase over GMT or something?
Back to the event, I'm a little frustrated with it being Dominion again, however, I'm glad they added something as without some extra flair the faction part would have been extremely painful.
I'm more frustrated that there weren't more useful crew created in the mega that can be used as bonus crew this time.
I really don't understand people complaining about having to unfreeze Dominion crew. No matter what the bonus trait, most people would be unfreezing crew anyway.

Exactly my thought. I need to unfreeze for each event generally so whats the difference.
UHhhghhghgh the best crew I’ll have to share will be a immo’d 4* Dominion...... I don’t have any good Odo’s.
The crew sharing for this event got me like

I would consider myself a somewhat militant freedom from religion type person and even I have no idea what Clone 7’s problem is. I expected some rage about another non-canon character (despite the excellent M*A*S*H Easter egg) but not this. There are things that are worth getting worked up over in this game, and the presence of religious characters in a Star Trek game isn’t one of them.
To avoid any blue text for not being on topic, how about some credit where credit is due: well done, DB, for keeping up with TOS characters. I wouldn’t say Elizabeth Dehner is at the top of my list (that is reserved for a Harry Mudd we’ll never get, Mirror Sulu, and Doctor M’Benga) but I am pleased all the same. Not pleased enough to try to get her via rank or packs, of course.
Remind me again... what were the Bajorans always going on about? What was all that Vulcan mysticism that Spock and Tuvok kept practicing? What was Chakotay saying again?
Embrace your inner IDIC, dude.
Personally, I'm offended by the unbridled embrace of all things Shakespeare, but then I never could get the hang of iambic pentameter.
OK, sorry, back to the real discussion - DOMINION!!! (Oh please please please someone post the pic of Kirk yelling from the depths of Regula, but change the caption.)

Thank you for your positivity and Grats on getting Pecard.
I am one of the aforementioned older players who just froze all their Dominion crew and you would NOT believe my reaction: "Flipping heck!" I said to myself. Yes, it was that extreme(!)
Seems like the forum is 'locked' into Complain mode at the moment and it's a real shame considering just over a month ago I was actually telling people it was better these days.
I'm not blaming just the players - DB have certainly made their own contribution to these feelings - but I do hope that people just take an extra minute before hitting send and think about whether they might be reacting out of proportion.

I brought up Changeling Martok and the Dominion trait will hopefully be added before the event starts.
Thank-you! I will start working on him getting him FE. And if it doesn't make it in time, oh well, I had hope and would have gotten around to FE'ing him someday anyway.
Yeah, I don't usually complain, but a pretty dick move having Dominion back again so soon. Guaranteed the majority of players froze most of theirs and will now have to spend merit again. Happy about Dehner though!

I mean, conversely, it probably should have been Klingons because of Antaak, which would have been just as inconvenient with more crew to pull out.

I don't really see the big issue.
We often have to pull crew out for a new event, that's true, but we just came off of a mega Dominion event and then switched to a non-Dominion event. It seemed pretty likely to most that the Dominion would not be featured for a little while. Also, Klingon would make more sense as you have said.

MASH-ups? 😉
It has to be intentional. For one thing, René never appeared as an Army Chaplain on DS9 (but he did on M*A*S*H).

It is correct.

Changling Martok is a Dominion Spy, so definitely should have dominion trait
