Pleased to report that work has begun on the latest version of Bylo's Guide to Most Things. I have been keeping detailed voyage notes for over two weeks and finally have enough voyages to start crunching some numbers. All the analysis I am able to glean from this data will be included in all future versions of the guide!
In other news, we are nearing completion of the next rank on our Industrial Replicator. I estimate we will complete it within the week (it is a bit of a slog I will not lie, our numbers are still on the low side - but significant progress is being made!) so if anybody is on the fence about joining us but worried they will suffer for lack of replications, fear not, we are aware of this and working on it to make your transition to our fleet more enjoyable!
Work on our Industrial Replicator is coming along nicely! I am impressed with the progress we've been able to sustain.
No new recruits to report this week (and honestly we are about due to cut a few inactives loose) but hope abides!
I am sort of sad to report that for all of you who were hoping to join my squadron - Ministry of Silly Spocks - there is no longer room. We have a really great squad of five dedicated players now, but there are still openings in the other squads, including a spot or two in Stormready's squad - S.S. Botany Bay - and really, we have to get somebody for Storm's squad who competes in events, so if you know anybody who wants to join up, PLEASE let them know we have room for them!
1. Today's top story: Starport founding member Stormready has had a legendary day, achieving the top spot in BOTH Captain AND Admiral Arenas at the same time! We are all hugely proud of this accomplishment!
2. As previously referenced, work has continued on our second Industrial Replicator rank. Within the next 8 hours the final donations will be made and then 18 hours later we will have rank 2 completed! So fear not, if you want to join up but are worried about losing access to a viable replicator, we have you covered!
3. Sadly, we were forced to cut loose a handful of inactives this week, but almost immediately we recruited a new captain to our ranks, so it is onward and upward!
1. We are up to 20 brave players now. I want to personally thank the other 19 for being a part of our STT family.
2. One of our newest members (The Hippo) is already showing tremendous potential! Just this afternoon I sent The Hippo a copy of our 43 page game guide, and was kind of embarrassed as I had not touched it for 2.5 months, and it is already out-of-date! The information is still useful, but it really needs updating, especially given all the new features and changes in 7.0.9.
3. Our starbase is now up to level 26! I also predict it will be 29 before to long, we are really close on two new projects already and a third is already half completed.
4. Oh, and I guess it does need to be mentioned. Our founding admiral ASeeYa, owing to a minor connection issue that is preventing him from fully participating in fleet chat, has stepped down and accepted an officer position in the fleet, and as a result we have a new admiral...some guy named Bylo Band.
So I guess if you want to give our fleet a try, or want to switch fleets, or whatever your reason, come on over to Starport, you already know the admiral!
It has been a frustrating last few months. My public proclamation that I would reach VIP 14 with the purchase of the five 4* citation special offer has effectively turned me into a free-to-play player. At the time I made that statement I had received that offer twice so I assumed it would come around again eventually, but sadly this has not been the case. I've been stuck just 750 VIP points shy of hitting VIP 14 for seven weeks now and other than the monthly card I cannot purchase any other offers without going over the threshold. As such, many of my reserves are starting to dwindle as I cannot replace what I use, most notably shuttle boosts. I am also forced to be much more selective in extending voyages, and I cannot extend nearly as many voyages as I once did as my dilithium reserves are teetering dangerously close to 500. Hopefully I can get this offer soon so I can start spending money again.
Given their prodigious diplomatic skills, I consider it important to assign at least one Ferengi to a diplomatic seat on my voyages, but between Nog and Quark always advocating AGAINST other Ferengi, I suspect a deeper ploy may be in the works. I will need to keep a close watch on this in the future.
During this temporal crisis, Q claims to be working on a solution to restore the galaxy. For a being who claims to be god-like, this crisis either shows the limitations of the Q, or else hints that the entire thing may be an elaborate prank by Q to amuse himself.
There is evidence to suggest this entire crisis might be nothing more than entertainment, for years now Q has been having captains from across the galaxy gather and then put members of their crews through a trying competition he jestfully calls The Gauntlet.
For many months members of my crew have agreed to participate in this Gauntlet, and while our results have not been exemplary, progress has been steadily achieved, and morale among my crew's Gauntlet regulars has improved.
Of late however, Q has changed his tactics it seems, as not one but two of the carrots he has dangled in my face for months have one-by-one been acquired, in rapid succession. Four days ago my crew returned with Armus, and then again yesterday they returned with The Caretaker. Morale among my crew is presently incalculably high.
So high in fact that with but 17 hours remaining in this current Gauntlet, my crew have fought like champions, and have us sitting in the gold medal position. The entire ship is buzzing with excitement!
Ever since this temporal anomaly began, I have encountered many different people from an assortment of factions from all places in time. Some have been Starfleet, many more have been from other empires, alliances, etc, but many of them have joined my crew to combine their efforts to try and solve this mutual threat to us all.
Over the course of this adventure it has become necessary to classify all of these people based on their usefulness; resources are slim and space on the ship is limited. I have assigned people I can trust to give these potential crew members a ranking from 1 to 5 stars, and a master list of all we have encountered was generated.
I was recently going over this master list and I noticed that in my haste in the early days of my arrival in this temporal anomaly, I prioritized crew with 3 and 4 star ratings as their strengths were greater, but in so doing I neglected my duties to the 1 and 2 star crew we were encountering.
During the last few days while we were combing our efforts with other crews to work out a resolution to the omega problem, I devoted 100% of our available resources toward the goal of rescuing and fully restoring as many of these 1 and 2 star individuals as was possible, and I am pleased to report that during the omega crisis my crew was able to fully restore twelve 1 and 2 star crew. Sadly we were forced to place them in stasis due to space concerns, but they will be perfectly preserved when the time comes to finally restore the timeline.
One of my crew assigned to this project has installed a stasis chamber and labeled it with the name placard "Acting Ensign Wesley Crusher", and when I find this practical joker they will be assigned to scrub the plasma injectors for two weeks!
While it is not entirely clear who organizes and conducts these competitions, like most crews in this anomaly, my crew participates in the various divisions in what many refer to as the "Arena".
The members of my crew who participate in the Admiral division have expressed frustration over their inability to be truly competitive. A few of them cite an increased need for training, like they feel incomplete somehow, some feel that they are good enough but that our ship needs improvement, and others still feel that they are not confident in the skill of some of our participating crew. Clearly improvement is required, while it is not always so clear in what form that should take.
The members of my crew who fight in the Captain division have been consistently performing well, if not at the top of the table. I have every confidence in the ability of the current lineup as they maximize their abilities, but the general consensus is that our current Captain tier ship is not good enough to truly compete. Upgrades in this area have been prioritized.
My crew in the Commander division is top shelf; twice having ranked at the top of the table. They have reported some rather interesting results of late. They can spend days at a time sitting comfortably around rank 120, and then without warning they can free fall several thousand places in an hour! They also report that they are capable of winning 6 fights in a row just as easily as they can lose 10 fights in a row! I do not envy their task, that division seems quite turbulent, yet I honor their dedication to fighting for the pride of their crew.
The situation with our Ferengi crew has not changed, and the odd behavior continues to happen again and again. More than ever, I suspect a very devious, long-play strategy is in the works, and I am beginning to suspect I will need to assign a member of my crew to keep tabs on this. We recently revived Army Chaplin Odo from stasis to help with this current crisis, perhaps it would be worth leaving him active once it is resolved and assign him to this task full-time. I will speak with him when his duties permit it, but I am sure he will agree with my suspicions and have some ideas on how best to proceed.
I have a few officers on my crew whom I have assigned to keep an accounting of the overall achievements we have accomplished, and while this has generally been a straightforward project, I have recently read a report that Guinan has been down in this department causing 'some kind of' problem, making it difficult for my officers to maintain an accurate accounting in all areas. Given Guinan's persistent personality, I suspect this issue will not go away any time soon.
The members of my crew who have been assigned to the space battle testing ground known as The Arena have become increasing eager to achieve. More and more I am seeing reports they submit where they were so eager to begin a battle that they accidentally leave the spacedock before turning off the panels on the battle station controls! Evidently once the battles begin it is no longer possible to turn the displays off, and my crew have reported that this has contributed to the space battles being more difficult as a result. Perhaps some additional training or updated pre-battle protocols are in order.
My crew recently stopped off at a Federation space station to resupply when we encountered a "Commander" Troi who was looking to join our crew. I assigned one of my officers to do a routine background check on her and it was decided that "Commander" Troi was unqualified, or at the very least not fully trained in command. We wished her well and continued on our supply run to the Augment starbase.
The members of my crew who compete in the admiral Arena division felt ready to answer the call when the test pilot version of Captain Archer asked for our assistance in recovering the Enterprise E. Captain Proton was not entirely enthusiastic about giving up his seat, but the rest of the team has performed admirably, and Archer has proven a quick study and has performed above expectations.
During a break in the action, Test Pilot Archer reported that during one round of space battles, he had learned that we were nearing the acquisition of a device we could use to instantly refuel a deep space voyage. Using this valuable intel I was able to strategize a plan to maximize the usefulness of this device once we were able to secure it, and as a result our voyage crew were able to bring back many useful and exotic discoveries.
Just when it seemed like my Ferengi crew were involved in a major conspiracy, they change their suspicious behavior. It would seem that either my earlier suspicions were unfounded or else somebody on my crew has hacked into the main computer and is reading my log entries. This will warrant further investigation.
My continued investigations into the possible conspiracy among my Ferengi crew has been thrown into utter chaos this afternoon, and the only conclusion on which I feel comfortable reporting at this time is that there seems to be far, far too many colonies being established in this galaxy directly on top of tritanium deposits, and perhaps future colony sites be given a more thorough scan before settlement location decisions are made.
We have encountered yet ANOTHER colony on yet ANOTHER deposit of tritanium, and once again the Ferengi have expressed an interest in this. To make this more confusing, once again my Ferengi crew members have abstained from attempting to influence my decision in the conflict. The possible conspiracy grows, however in the here and now I must file a report to headquarters demanding that future colonies NOT be built on tritanium deposits, we are losing countless hours of productivity sorting out these disputes!
Over the last 2.5 days, my crew have sent out two deep space voyages. On the first voyage they felt they had a lot of exploring to do and discoveries to make, so they took many extra dilithium crystals and stayed out an exceptionally long time. The second voyage remained closer to home but still good work was done. Inevitably, both voyages encountered yet more colonies built directly on top of tritanium deposits! Having predicted both of these events in time, I have temporarily benched my Ferengi crew to prevent the possibility of any further collusion or conspiracy while we continue to investigate.
For nearly five full days, my crew's commander division Arena team have managed to maintain position on the table without needing to do battle, but then today they have been forced into action FOUR separate times to regain lost position. I do not envy the assignment of my commander division crew, the laws governing that realm are clearly heavily influenced by chaos.
I am going on indefinite hiatus from the STT forums. I will probably still poke in out of habit and to periodically update this thread so I can be semi-reliably counted on to check my inbox for messages, but I have lost the drive to be an active participant, content creator, and part-time diplomat. If you want to chat send me a message here or look me up in game "username: Bylo Band".
During this current weekend event, to cope with the loss of several of my more seasoned crew who have been temporarily reassigned to performing crucial shuttle missions, I was forced to press some of my previously benched crew back into service, and was immediately rewarded with yet another Ferengi advocating FOR random colonists AGAINST the interests of other Ferengi. The investigation it seems is back to square 1.
I have been briefed by those in my record keeping department that Guinan is still down there causing problems. Currently I have not come up with a solution to this problem, but hopefully a resolution can be reached soon.
Yesterday was First Contact Day, and to celebrate the grand occasion I assigned none other than Phoenix Cochrane himself to be lead diplomat on my deep space voyage! Sadly, this put him in position to settle yet ANOTHER colony dispute with the Ferengi over yet ANOTHER colony built on top of ANOTHER tritanium deposit! when the voyage finally returns to spacedock, I will have to buy Mr. Cochrane a few rounds ancient film-infused whiskey to make amends.
@Stormready, one of the founding members of our fleet reported this morning that they had achieved the top rank on the admiral division of The Arena. I am told there will be a celebration in the officer's mess of the fleet starbase later today. We are all incredibly proud to know that the Starport flag flew atop the leaderboard of record!
I have decided to prematurely halt all future investigations into colonies being built Tritanium deposits and the possible connection with the Ferengi, and the only logical conclusion one can derive from such an en devour is that if there is a conspiracy here, it is that the Federation Colony Planners are horribly under-qualified and are somehow able to remain in their positions. I recommend summary terminations of the entire department!
After a few weeks of sacrifice BY my crew and perhaps more on the mark of sacrifices OF literally hundreds of potential crew, I was able to requisition a citation for a member of my crew. After much consideration and crew performance reviews, it was decided that Mirror Stamos was worthy of a field promotion. Congratulations Mirror Stamos!
