To me it's only useful to send missions outside the event (to level crew when needed). I can barely fill a 4th shuttle at the 4k vp mark, even when there is a generic bonus in a mega event.
For me, a game changing feature for faction events would be to (also) be able to "hire" crew to fill the shuttles, one time mercenaries (a little like the shared crew from squad leaders)
I did my quick start using time boosts like normal and have been running 5 shuttles since then using the shuttle token for a 3h shuttle (which has only failed once) .... I am around rank 200. I don't think it's going to make a big difference to the top 1000.... however, I am still not sure if I am going to get all the threshold awards or not.
