1. Fan of Rush (Y/N)?
2. Seen any of their concerts?
I'm in China now, and unfortunately, last live Rush concert I saw was Vapor Trails. But, thankfully, I've got all their DVDs!
1. I LOVE Rush! I have all of their albums, including all the live albums. It may be accurate to say they are my favorite band, although that changes from time to tine.
2. Yes, I saw them at The Gorge in George on the "Snakes and Arrows" tour. They opened for themselves!
Rush is my favorite band. I've been teaching myself guitar and playing some riffs like the intro to Spirit of the Radio, 2112 Overture, and Closer to the Heart. Fun tunes.
3. @ByloBand , whenever anyone in the Timelines forum mentions the Bynars, do you also subconsciously hear the song "The Body Electric" from Grace Under Pressure....

Glad to meet another Rush head!
3. I do now! Although for whatever reason I've had Anagram from "Presto" going through my head since yesterday.

As I already outed myself in this thread, that makes three. I'm a guitar player as well. Back in college, I fondly remember sitting on the front porch of the house I rented part of playing and belting (screeching?) out nothing but Rush tunes for an entire evening/morning for friends that were either digging it or playing along convincingly. Malt liquor may have also been involved.
Pandemic has a...strange relationship with our play group. We have one friend who has a MUCH more powerful affinity for Pandemic than the rest of us, and plays it all the time at home. As such, when he comes (he is not a regular) we end up playing it or one of the later version with extra stuff, and for the most part we all sit around while he basically plays our turns for us. It's like yeah, that is a good idea, but our idea wasn't bad either and this IS supposed to be cooperative, yes?
The solution is for the rest of you is to download the Pandemic App, play the crap out of it and beat the game on Legendary. It’s only 7 Epidemics so it’s not too hard. Then all of you show your achievements to the other dude.
Well, the other dude is a good friend of mine, he just has an unfortunate tendency to take over a few cooperative games, and truth be told, so do I I usually do it though in Star Trek: Five-Year Mission, where I try and play as the captain so at least I have an excuse!
But OMG, SEVEN epidemic cards?!?! That is ridiculous!
Coaching is always a problem in co-op. The key is to just ignore and/or ridicule the other player.
My friends are like:
"So what does the ***LEGENDARY*** player think?!?!?"
"I think we should do this."
"We think you're an idiot and we're going to do this."
Fortunately, I have a pretty decent batting average at Pandemic but every time my predictions are off they're immediately thrown in my face.
Also you should try seven epidemics in the base game. Its a, umm...., humbling experience.

Speaking of humbling, I kind of lost my taste for Pandemic when we were playing the Legacy version and lost three times in a row, won one, and then lost again (just barely missing out on the box of helpful stuff we would have unlocked by losing four times in a row). Come to think of it, we haven’t played Pandemic - even the regular version - since then.

Thing about Legacy is that you can't view it in simple win/losses. Sure winning the entire thing with a perfect 12-0 would be nice but the best way to play it is to lose strategically. Losing three in a row seems bad but what did you accomplish in those three losses?
I've only played S1 once and scored poorly (200-400 pts). I would like to try again although it would be hard to corral a consistent play group and we also have a tonne of other things to do (ex Gloomhaven). We started S2 Pandemic but haven't found the time to get into June nevermind finish it.
Well I was going to ask about the name but someone already did (I'm rubbish with anagrams, I'd never have got it), so alternatively: you're walking along in the desert and you see a tortoise- no, wait. Okay, you can add one crew to STT but it's not something everyone's really excited about, or a major character, or something marketable like that - it's some ridiculously random character that you're probably the only one who actually remembers and everyone else is gonna go "Huh?" when it's announced and has to go look up on Memory Alpha. Who's your obscure favourite?
What's a story you like to tell about a road trip you've taken?
There are a couple I could go with, but as I look back on this one now as a old-ish dude, I kind of marvel at just how quite frankly idiotic it was!
My junior year in high school just ended in early summer of 1996 when myself and my two best friends decided we wanted to go to Lollapalooza that summer at The Gorge in George (yes, Washington state has a place called George!). BTW, if you EVER have a chance to see a show at The Gorge, do it! It is a natural amphitheater that can hold 100,000 spectators and is set on a farm up on bluff overlooking the Columbia River; it is breathtaking, and because it is literally out in the middle of nowhere shows can go all night.
My parents wouldn't let the three of us go, but one of my mom's former co-workers was over at the house for a birthday party or something and mentioned her brother from Houston (whom NONE of us had ever met BTW!) was in town for the summer, was 5 years older than us, and would go along. Our parents agreed and the three of us plus "Miguel" (name changed) bought tickets from the Ticketmaster counter inside the drugstore inside the Tacoma Mall (that is how it had to be done back then!), hastily threw together supplies, and drove east through the mountains to The Gorge in my friend "Tim"s (name changed) Ford Escort.
We got there the day before and pitched tents in a local campground (that is what everyone does because it is literally in the middle of nowhere) and the next morning drove Tim's Escort to The Gorge, parked, and made plans to meet back at the car when it was over. Tim and Miguel went off to do whatever as they were not really music fans and as we later learned FAR bigger recreational drug fans, but my other friend and I were very much interested in a majority of the acts so we set off to get a decent spot of the hill.
It was BRUTALLY hot all day and the sun beat us to a pulp, but my friend and I managed to stay hydrated and we watched a great show by the likes of Screaming Trees, Rancid, The Ramones, an exhibition by the Shaolin Monks, Devo, Soundgarden, and Metallica. It was an AWESOME show!
After the four of us reconnected at Tim's car and he nor Miguel were forthcoming as to just how wasted they were, we were all tired so we got in Tim's car and went to begin the long drive back home. 90 minutes later I woke up in the backseat to find that we had not moved 1 inch, but everyone else was passed out in the car with the engine STILL ON, the car IN DRIVE, and the only thing keeping us from driving off and crashing into who know's what was Tim's foot on the brake pedal! I woke up Tim and offered to drive home but he just took off for the road.
Like 2 miles down the highway Tim pulled off on an unmarked exit, got lost for a bit, pulled over, shut off the car in some guys front yard, and announced it was sleep time. Before I could even protest or again offer to drive, he was out. I had to pee really bad so I got out to wiz in this guy's front yard, and the second I did Tim reclined his seat and prevented me from getting back in the car! At this point it was really cold out, so I was effectively locked out of the car for a good two hours freezing my you-know-what off and in a really bad situation because any noise I made to try and wake up Tim might wake up the homeowner!
No idea what time it was but I finally managed to get my friend in the backseat awake and he hit Tim in the head a few times to wake him up. At that point we realized Tim was high AF so I insisted he move to the backseat and I took over driving. We had lost 5 hours already and we had to be home in the morning or our parents would freak out (remember, this was pre-cell phone times) so I had a LOT of time to make up.
I got us un-lost with a map, got back on the highway, and proceeded to go as fast as the early 1990's Ford Escort could go. At one point on the pass through the Cascades I hit a downward pitch and was still accelerating despite the needle already being pinned to the edge of the speedometer which topped out at 95 MPH so we were going well over 100 MPH in a Ford Escort!
We managed to get Miguel home first, and the rest of us made it home in one piece. And THAT is the story of Lollapolooza 96!
Which is more fun: Cards Against Humanity or Say Anything?
Edit: with your gaming group
We have never played Say Anything, but I'll still say I like that one better, because I am completely over CAH. It was fun for a while (BTW, one of our regulars has EVERY card for it) but I quickly realized that several of our play group were not putting much thought into their choices when they were the round judge and would just declare the raunchiest card the winner even if it made no sense, at which point the game just devolved into a contest of who could luck into the dirtiest card. So, I decided to not play anymore. Thankfully our group is big enough to sustain a group that want to play CAH while I and one or two others play something else.
BTW, I feel the same way about the card game Exploding Kittens. I do not enjoy it anymore once the initial enjoyment of the card art wore off. That game has no strategy at all, and really just comes down to luck.

Wow. Well, my absolutely favorite random character in all of Trek is Simon Tarses, but he already exists. Hmm...
For reference sake I will stick to a crew that actually appeared on a show...wow, this is tricky....I need to do a quick mental scanning of the entire franchise, standby!
OK, I have one. I have already mentioned this as a possible mega event legend for the upcoming Year of Hell mega, but I'd choose Yedrin Dax, from the planet Gaia. I believe this Dax variant is exciting because he officially never existed, even though he did, and I like that element of paradox. Plus, for his brief time on our screens really showed a depth of character and a complicated relationship with Jadzia and his roll in history, and even as an attempted saboteur.
Either him, or Toq or Ba'el from the Birthright episodes of TNG, because I really, REALLY think the writers of Trek during that era missed a GOLDEN opportunity to bring them back during DS9 during the early tensions of the Dominion War.
I was trying to fire off detailed and thoughtful replies right after waking up and before I have to rush off to get the kids, so I am sorry for the absolutely brutal typos in the above replies. I will try and fix them later!
The galaxy is full of reaaaaally useless and worthless crew, so... why do you hate the AECs so much? Is there a trauma? Or you actually enjoy with his pain and misery?
Oh, you still play soccer? Are you fan of a particular team?

Ha! Brilliant! Genuinely glad I thought to ask that, and I'm glad you shared, @ByloBand.

Back again to Trek topics... What Trek planet you'd like to visit?
Those are not harsh questions at all, this thread needs to be honest or it has no value, so I'm glad you asked.
I'll take the easy one first. I DID play soccer for most of my youth, but I have not played for many, many years. Since that is such a short answer I'll add a bit of detail...our youth squad had a handful of really talented kids including two pretty great strikers and a couple of central midfielders whose dads were BOTH high school coaches, so they were pretty advanced for our age group. We also had a giant kid who could kick the ball a mile. Actually, if our team had even a competent keeper, we never would have lost, and even then we won the league three times.
We played what I guess you'd call a 4-4-2, but it was really more of a 4-1-2-1-2, as our central mids played vertically, not horizontally. Our attacking central mid was almost a third striker and our other was more focused on defending the middle of the field. I played on the left side for two reasons: the first is that I was also a good basketball player so I was able to defend better than most as my dad played college basketball and taught me how to defend and there is a lot of overlap between the footwork needed in both sports, and the other is that I'm essentially ambidextrous and was just as good with my left "boot" as my right, so it was an advantage to have me on the left so I could more easily launch counter-attacks.
If we were playing a team with a known awesome striker I'd play left back and mark him TIGHT, it was my job to take away their best player, and for whatever reason the other team's best player almost always played right striker, so they'd attack out left side. I would stick to them like glue, prevent them from getting by me, and force them to center the ball before they wanted to, which fed into the teeth of our stud central backs. No slide tackles, not reckless movements, just hound that guy and frustrate him! One time I frustrated a dude so much he actually tried to push me to the ground and I turned around and smashed him in the face, knocking him down! I even got away with it as our counter-strike was in full effect as we were threatening the goal!
Shifting gears, my dislike of Wesley Crusher is very tough to unpack, but intense. Wesley was a waste of a character IMO, and every time I re-watch TNG he makes me more angry because I just keep thinking of all those officers who spent 4 years at Starfleet Academy, working hard to EARN a commission on the FLAGSHIP of the Federation, only to lose their post to a snot-nosed brat who quite frankly only even got the chance because he had a borderline-inappropriate relationship with Captain Picard. It just reeks of nepotism and privilege, and it makes me sick. Keep in mind, he didn't just replace the conn officer on the bridge, he also basically took over the assistant chief engineer position too!
In game, he started to annoy me because a year ago when I started playing, I realized I was 2 years behind and needed to try and catch up somewhat, so I had to focus on female/Starfleet/aliens to do well in cadet challenges (back then remember, there was no warping of cadets so crew space was important) and Wesley was quite frankly a waste of space on my roster as he only checked 1 box. Then he started cropping up on EVERY voyage I sent out, to the point where I started to notice it and document it.
Initially in the Replicator thread he was not the lone target, but pretty early on it became clear that the AEC was just brilliant, and it became a "thing", and I am THRILLED for that (much credit must go to @Flemming for that, he was always 2 moves ahead in that thread).
It may also be relevant to this discussion to mention that Wil Weaton blocked me on twitter.
-EDIT-
Oh my, I accidentally COMPLETELY forgot to mention my favorite soccer teams!
There is a bit of a story you could ask about to explain this answer, but my favorite club team is FC Barcelona. I also pull for Bayern Munich thanks to a college roommate who grew up in Bavaria and I for whatever reason like the Tottenham Hotspur in EPL, although back in the day I also pulled for the Gunners because I really like Thierry Henry. It is admittedly difficult to follow all of these squads in the U.S., but I do try to keep a small interest in the results of their matches.
Thank you Bylo! But why the Barcelona of all teams?
And I remind you the question about the planets. What Trek planet you'd like to visit? Vulcan? Andoria? Qo'noS? Romulus? Bajor? Cardassia? Ferenginar? Risa? Talos IV?
Back again to Trek topics... What Trek planet you'd like to visit?
Bajor? Maybe? I honestly can't say I found the planets very interesting, although now that I think on it a bit more, I'll go with Andoria, I like cold weather.
Thank you Bylo! But why the Barcelona of all teams?
I never really "had" a team, but back in college my friend from Bavaria invited a bunch of us over to his place to watch the UEFA Champions League final, and Barca was playing against apparently Arsenal (I could have SWORN it was Liverpool) and I just decided that Barca was my team, because it is more fun when you are rooting for someone. I remember choosing Barca because of Ronaldinho, so that is why Barca is my team.
And now of course that means I get to cheer on the best player on the planet, so it worked out OK

I could see myself falling in love with a Bajoran. But not a Vulcan, I couldn’t get past the hair. Orion, yes. Andorian, yes. Tellerite? Oh HE|| no!
If you could use a holodeck (or a holosuite), what you'd do? Reenact a book, movie, TV series or even a videogame? Some story from mythology and legends? Historical events?
And what Trek holoprograms you'd like to use? Vic's Lounge? Dixon Hill? Captain Proton? Vulcan Love Slave? xD
Why do you choose to use Boothby as your avatar (both in game and here)
You seem to have an attachment to this character.
For my first two months or so while I was just figuring this game out, I was fleet-less and F2P. I was that stupid hairball avatar in game for quite a while because I had nothing better. In an early pack I opened I managed to get a 3* Boothby, and not knowing any better I decided to level him up because I was excited that he had three skills!
Around this time I joined my original fleet (which shall remain nameless) and I assumed my fleet was filled with a bunch of young kids, as video games tend to skew young. So it was kind of the perfect storm, I was very limited in what crew I could choose as my in game avatar, and I also felt like I was the old guy in my new fleet so communicate that fact in a subtle way, I chose Boothby as my avatar.
Around that time I felt I had something to prove to my fleet so I studied HARD, I read every article I could find on the wiki, scoured the forums, asked questions, and started my own experiments in the game. Pretty quickly I became the guy in the fleet people came to to ask questions, which added to my own internal pressure to maintain a level of "excellence", which meant I had to get better. So I created what was then my first ever chroniton farming guide, but I had no way to get it to the people in my fleet, so I created an account on this forum, and pasted my guide to my profile page!
To make it easier for people in the fleet to find me on the forums, I made sure my name was the same, and I also wanted to keep my avatar the same, so people would know it was me. I obviously stuck around on the forums, gained a bit of a public persona on here, so for the sake of branding or whatever, I've just stuck with the name/avatar combo to keep my identity in the community consistent, as my sort of calling card so people know it is me no matter where they run into me. That is important to me, because I try and connect with as many people as I can.

I would use the holodeck to explore my own creativity by creating my own programs to do things I could not normally do outside the holodeck. I cannot be more specific than that, but I would say that I doubt I'd ever be in one program for long, because my brain is an endless fountain of creativity and I would literally just do whatever I felt like trying that day. Just one example, but I think it might be fun to try out spaghettification first hand, with the safeties on of course.
Honestly, i would not use any pre-existing programs, unless somebody else invited me. The closest thing to an existing program I'd find amusing is Data's poker program, where he was playing with Einstein, Hawking, and Newton.

I’d hang in the holodeck with Mr. Broccoli. Now there’s a guy who knows how to program a fantasy!
That was many years ago with my original twitter handle that I took seriously (had something like 400 followers or something - which wasn't bad for a non-famous person back then!), that that account has been deleted for years so technically I am not blocked with my current twitter account, which I do not take seriously at all. With that original twitter account I went VERY deep down the Survivor rabbit hole, as I was obsessed with that show for several years, although sadly twitter kind of ruined my interest for a long time because I learned a little too much about the production.
I actually remember the exact tweet he sent out that I replied to that lead to my being blocked. Wil tweeted "BLEEP cancer!" and he apparently did not enjoy my reply. That was the day I really changed my opinion of Mr. Weaton.

3. I do now! Although for whatever reason I've had Anagram from "Presto" going through my head since yesterday.
As I already outed myself in this thread, that makes three. I'm a guitar player as well. Fortunately, I have a pretty decent batting average at Pandemic but every time my predictions are off they're immediately thrown in my face.
Also you should try seven epidemics in the base game. Its a, umm...., humbling experience.
"So what does the ***LEGENDARY*** player think?!?!?"
"I think we should do this."
"We think you're an idiot and we're going to do this."
Sounds very familiar
Edit: with your gaming group
The galaxy is full of reaaaaally useless and worthless crew, so... why do you hate the AECs so much? Is there a trauma? Or you actually enjoy with his pain and misery?
Oh, you still play soccer? Are you fan of a particular team?
Back again to Trek topics... What Trek planet you'd like to visit?
Ha! Brilliant! Genuinely glad I thought to ask that, and I'm glad you shared, @ByloBand.
Thank you
Those are not harsh questions at all, this thread needs to be honest or it has no value, so I'm glad you asked.
And I remind you the question about the planets. What Trek planet you'd like to visit? Vulcan? Andoria? Qo'noS? Romulus? Bajor? Cardassia? Ferenginar? Risa? Talos IV?
Bajor? Maybe? I honestly can't say I found the planets very interesting, although now that I think on it a bit more, I'll go with Andoria, I like cold weather.
Tellerite? Oh HE|| no!
You seem to have an attachment to this character.
And what Trek holoprograms you'd like to use? Vic's Lounge? Dixon Hill? Captain Proton? Vulcan Love Slave? xD
Oh, wait.
I blocked all of twitter.
Weaton.
