How do I end up in Gauntlets like this? I'm currently at 3,500 which was necessary to take 1st place, and 2 days ago I was over 4K which was only good for 2nd place?! (I'll take any comments/advice via PM so as to not derail this thread).
Bylo, try to alter your start timing. I've found the pool of strong players to be greatest when joining a new gauntlet in the first few hours after the end of the previous one. Collect your rewards at time +5 seconds if you want, but then wait to join. Sometimes I even forget to start a new one before bed, so it could be 12hrs before I get into my next one. There are always strong players no matter your start time (in my experience), but there seem to be fewer if you wait a bit.
Uh, scratch that. All of you strong players out there (and you know who you are)... the BEST time to join a gauntlet is in the first 2-3 hours. Don't wait. All the bad RNG lives in the gauntlets that start more than 3 hrs after the prior one. Don't ever join at those times!
Yes indeed, and same here. I got my 6th Bartender Guinan from the rank loot boxes 2 days before this gauntlet. As soon as I saw the traits in this one, she went from level 1 to 100 to join the party.

I hope ya finished well...I didn't manage to get in in time so I finished rank 14.... But I got a 2nd Armus so I'm not complaining one bit... I've now gotten a gold from 3 out of the 4 different kinds of boxes, just need one to drop from the highest quality box.

I am on vacarion and able to devote more time to this one. It seems like a pretty weak Gauntlet so far. Having Locutus has really changed the Gauntlet for me. I've also changed my strategy, based on some of your comments. I'm not holding off as long before starting and I'm using a lot more merits to get 3 & 6 streak boxes and push for top 10 finishes. We'll see how tomorrow shakes out.
