Been a while since we had such a weak-stats character in a galaxy - Tomalak’s recipes are pretty rough compared to the usual 80% success rates we tend to get.
No kidding. And who exactly are we supposed to be using for all those MED builds? Even a FFFE Kamin's MED is paltry. I actually stopped at 130K for the first time since 130K stopped being the finish line, and even getting that far was painful.
The event storyline took a dark turn today. Kataan is dead and there are grave robbers. Yikes. In the first phase we were given hope that Kataan would be alive and thriving but that hope was taken away in phase 2. That will teach me to read the storylines and get into them.

You can play Phase Two?!?!?
Congrats. Won't let me......

my strategy of "don't spend on packs because given enough time, everybody will drop eventually" seems to have paid off!
I decided early to do what I could to get close to 130,000 for the last Weasely, then just finish out that target with SuperRares. Ended up about 165,000 or so.

Yes it is a sad storyline. Would have been fun to have Kataan alive and could bring the storyline back in a future event along with other characters from that episode.

Very surprising. I was expecting something along the lines of:
WESLEY: The captain's outside.
TOMALAK: Kamin Picard.
As an analogy this would mean that humanity never should have built new cities on vulcano soil. I do not see the point. How is this sad or graverobbery? Exploiting ressources from long gone ages is quite normal. Or do you feel bad for the trees that turned into oil in the course of millions of years when you drive your car?

It is not long gone as long as Kamin Picard is alive. Also, Picard speaks of the wonders of the civilization that should be learned and shared not destroyed. It is why we have laws to prevent the destruction of ancient artifacts.
I got it is about neutronium deposits underneath the surface. Future oil, so to say.
And the planet is from the future, so everything is long gone there.

Would you trust the Romulans to just get the deposits and not destroy the artifacts of the Kataan civilization? I would not. There is so much to be learned from studying ancient civilizations that are unique and not found anywhere else where as there are many places to get neutronium.

You mean like the Italians building city over city at the Vesuvius after some time has passed after an outbreak? They literally built on the bones and artifacts of their ancestors but we do not find that awkward, do we? It is not like there was no free space elsewhere on Sicily...

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site and is not being built over but preserved and catalogued as much as possible. It is a major source of tourism for Italy as well as an excellent source of information on ancient Roman life. Many discoveries have been found there and our knowledge expanded. Some other places in the Vesuvius area have been illegally built upon and there has been much discussion by the government and the people to address not only for history sake but because that area is not safe with an active volcano that could erupt.
I am not sure what the point you are trying to convey is. With space travel there would be vast amounts of space and resources that could be obtained from a myriad of places by the civilization of Kataan can only be studied in Kataan. Kamin Picard was saying that there was much knowledge to be gained by studying the Kataan civilization and that that should take precedent. Space faring people could get neutronium elsewhere. Just as Pompeii is preserved so could Kataan.
We are also talking about an idealistic Federation society that would strive to be better than any failings or inabilities of modern humanity. Even if you come up with an example of a modern day problem or issue relating to lack of resources or space that would not be an issue in the future. Nor is the argument that some group of people did wrong so we should also do wrong a good argument if that was what you were suggesting. Past mistakes and errors should be corrected and fixed not continued.

I do not remember Picard saying anything about artefacts, only that he does not want to see the planet being exploited, to me it seems merely out of nostalgia and principle.
Even in the future ressources need to be obtained from somewhere, and if there are not countless sources like in this case I do not see an issue with mining it from a long dead planet. And yes, I do trust the Romulans not to devastate it in the course (even though it would not matter imo). Not so much in the question that arose in the dialogue about their intentions regarding their planned usage of the substance. But that was not the ethical question here.
But even if there was an archeological interest in the planet which was not satisfied at that point in time it would make more sense to study the present version instead of the future one due to the progressed decay. There can be nothing from the Kataan civilization on the future planet which cannot be found on the current one as well.
I wonder where they parked the additional planet though?! The whole story is weird.

Seriously? Every thread has to go sideways? It's 0s & 1s in a chip!!!!!
Ok, to get back on track...
I hate Galaxies in general but this was one of the worst I have ever seen. All these DIP missions with no corresponding crew, Picard and Tomalak performing abysmally even for their core skills.
I would have had the time and chrons to go for 1500 but I just could not take it any more. I quit at 130k and rage-froze Tomalak instantly.
TP, please never do something like this again!

It is annoying that the builds were low value, but it doesn't bother me so much because we all have the same potential compared to each other as we would have had they been higher chances for the super-rares. For myself, I hit 400K and will turn in the super-rares in the morning. I'll get the gold and that is the end of it for me.

That’s how I saw it. Everyone is in the same boat and anyone competing for a rank - even if it’s just to get a particular number of Picard at El-Adrelses - is affected the same way. Going for a specific threshold is going to take longer than it might otherwise, so I can understand some frustration there.

I found that Pollard works ok for those builds.

i got him in the community 10-pack

Agreed about the story. It was nicely done, but certainly sad.

According to https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Neutronium the substance is rare.

Haha, pretty how? What would you say my best feature is?
I'll have to find my thread!!! I forgot to do it last time, I think....
