As usual with this company, great idea, terrible delivery. I do not want to use my 5* crew and waste a 4* one to get a new 5* crew. Two 4*, fine, but with this format I pass. The exciting part about fusing crew is not getting a new card but it's because it's an upgrade.
not much of a “celebration” if you ask me, now if they did temporary achievements like @Banjo1012 mentioned, that would be more like a celebration and less like something new that you have to pay for IMO 🖖🖖🖖🖖
They're celebrating money, not Star Trek. *shrugs* But it's nothing new, there has always been this ambiguity about an expensive pay to win game set in a universe in which the political premise is proto communism.
Would seem more like a "celebration" if we were given a copy......Seems more like a hold-up than a celebration.
I don’t do fuses so I have no car in this race but it’s not a celebration of them, it’s an exploitation by forcing dilithium expenditure if you want the card
Founding ADM - PoF family of fleets (POF, POF2 & POF3) - Dear TP: Non sequitur. Your facts are uncoordinated.
With the legendary available in a skirmish event, this merge crew seems far more accessible than Cheesecake. Especially as skirmish events are the most equitable events, at least in my opinion.
I'm not a big TOS fan, so I think I'm going to bow out of the skirmish after clearing threshold. I'd feel bad grabbing the new Spock over someone who really wants him.
Six degrees in Inter-species Veterinary Medicine. Treating all manner of critters, from Tribbles to Humans.
When Cheesecake was introduced, there was no option to get the needed
5* Mobile Doctor, gladly they released a 10 buck offer a week later or so.
This isn't correct: they had a Mobile Doc LTO the same day they released Indignant Seven in the Tuesday pack. So there was the option to take advantage of it the day it was released.
It's unlikely this card is going to be game breaking mechanically (though I wish they were!), so this is just cosmetic. I have no issue with cosmetic stuff costing money. At the end of the day pretty much any semi organised roster with a solid set of fully fused legendaries can do anything in the game. Crew Retrieval has made it very straightforward for most people to unlock some of the most powerful characters in the game, so giving the whales something to spend their money on to support this game is just good sense.
It's also good for the game that people have longer term goals. If you just give everyone what they want week to week it gets boring fast. I'll go for the event for Spock and I will try a few of the packs for Kirk, but if I don't get them, they will go on my list of longer term goals. I will then plan for the citations needed etc. This is a good thing. Games need goals and this game has few of them as it stands.
With the CR system, I'm now paying much more attention to the traits for assorted crew. It would seem that this new Spock will be the only "Exobiology-Cultural Figure" or "Vulcan-Human-Cultural Figure" in the game. Either way, he's the only Cultural Figure Spock in the game, so everyone plan accordingly (when he eventually gets into the Portal).

If special crew like this could be easily and quickly obtained, they wouldn't be nearly so special. When I finally complete Cheesecake, I'll know I earned them!

I think we can all agree that the devs need to make money for the game to continue.
But your post/s seem to suggest that “celebrating” an iconic birthday is synonymous to providing p2p options to obtain the crew quickly and easily. For most people, the crew are pretty easilly obtainable, for $$$$.
Or, you can wait and hope they get added to the portal someday, and you can save your f2p resources for that day.
Regardless, my point of contention is that the only way to have this new fuse crew is by fusing brand new crew. Its just silly. Sure, i could see introducing one new crew that fuses with an existing crew, but two new crew? With p2p being pushed? Come on now. This is blatant greed.

To be fair, that was already done with the Bynars. At least this time around there's a chance of getting one without spending. And I'm semi-confident the fused crew will at least be better than them.

How do you distinguish greed from minimum needed profitability? The CR system is basically churning out the most powerful legendaries in the game for anyone in a semi-decent fleet. The money has to come from someone. And selling more pictures of Kirk and Spock seems like a nice way to go about drumming up some money. It's not like these are the only pictures of Kirk and Spock in the game! If you make things too easy they cease to be useful 'gameplay' and they lose their ability to drive revenue.
If you're getting upset by marketing hype well, I don't know what to say to you. Go to McDonalds, they sell Happy.
I am not usually this positive lol but I think they did this really well. VIP0 players are really haughty and quick to whine but this is a good example of effort (skirm) + what I would assume will be a minimum dil investment to get the card.

Has anyone here been a VIP0? Or even identified their VIP level? I've seen very few complaints about Kirk being in a Tuesday pack which is a VIP0 no-go. The biggest complaint is the combination of a 5* and a 4* rather than two 4*. I even argued that making Spock a 4* would have yielded MORE pack sales.
I think having players compete for a crew that fuses into another that we have no information on until after the event has finished is extremely anti-player. WRG is trying to crank the 'fear of missing out' up to 11 with the fallback being that "Hey, you can always spend money to buy him from packs if you find out it was worth it".
It's otherwise fine and even more 'generous' than some precedent to let players earn half the fusion without spending, but not letting players know what a good chunk of Fal-tor-pan Spock's intrinsic value is until after the event is awful. Just like the Carlos Data nonsense where we had to wait four months to see him added to a collection that no one at WRG would confirm beforehand, I'd really like to see them stop behaving as though base and proficiency numbers are all that matter on crew and the rest can be filled in whenever they want.

Holy **tsk tsk**, you're right. I didn't work out the timeline.
@Shan, can you please share the stats for the fusion card before next week's event starts?

That would alleviate really my only bone of contention with this -- they gotta make money and a purple in a 6-pack is so much easier to grab than the gold + crew retrieval will allow almost anyone to make this crew once they enter the portal -- but if it's something they hadn't even considered, that would be kind of disappointing after the whole hilarious/harmless crew #1000 thing. Otherwise I enjoy fusion crew and will be happy to pull packs for a kirk if the fuse is worth it.

The Tuesday packs are a VIP 12 (my level) no-go too. The odds are just not in my favour and it annoys me to spend dilithium for shite.
My two favorite characters and if I do decide in favor I will get a copy of each and a fused copy. I’m on the fence about wanting to spend the time it takes to place high in the event though and rng being what it is trying to go the purchase route. Biggest hurdle for me is working 15 hour shifts during the day on Saturday Sunday and Monday. Unfortunately I’ll most likely have to choose to pass. If it’s a 10 offer I would buy one, packs not so much.

And I think it's fair to say the fusion card is objectively better than Spock - we now have a new #2 Overall Voyager (without buffs, the are missing out by 1 point to Braxton, and displacing Gary Seven by thirty points). Depending on which buffs you have, they might actually be the new #1.

Thank you kindly.
Computer, erase that entire personal log.
Well, looks like I'm spending some dilithium on packs, then.
Awesome stats! Thx for the advanced info. 👍🏻
I feel like this ship ability should have been saved for a different, slightly more macabre, Kirk Spock fusion card....
In honor of their birthdays, I think a moment honoring life and rebirth is better than a moment honoring death and sacrifice.
But he's not really dead, as long as we... put him in a Limited Time Offer....
