I airlocked fake Quark, so I don't want another one of those, but more crew slots and new game features would certainly be a welcome addition.

But...Quark did dress up like that in DS9. It wasn't "Convergence Day", but Quark appearing like that is canon.

This is hardly a great example to grind your axe on.

They could have easily called him "Formal Dress Quark" or something else. They needed a character for convergence day and he was in the queue with a sufficiently celebratory appearance. Could have been released at a different time under a different name and been an entirly appropriate 5* later-season DS9 version. But an accident of timing gave him a noncanon name, and people cry "fake crews".

"Convergence Day Quark" refers to an event in Star Trek: Timelines - that is to say, the anniversary of the convergence event that brought all of the characters together. If a player cannot accept things that occur in the Timelines story... why would they be playing Timelines at all?

A great number of people play for the cards and ignore DB's storylines altogether. People should be free to enjoy the game as they wish.

But, as mentioned above, Convergence Day Quark (or "Fake Quark", as you referred to him earlier) is the Quark from the last episode of DS9. He wasn't created for DB's storylines. (Or have I missed something..? DS9 TV episodes are canon... right?)

The name attached to his character "card" refers to the Timelines event in which that canonical character's card was introduced. To refuse to keep his card because some of the letters in the card name refer to a non-canon event from the game you are playing (while the rest is fine) seems a bit picky, and perhaps even arbitrary.

But I'm new here. I've only been on the forums for about a week, so I don't know how people like you play the game. Maybe you're completely consistent in your self-imposed flagellation, and, as with "Fake Quark", you also refuse to hold any cards with even a minor difference in their costume (I'm suspicious of the shoes on "Ambassador Neelix", personally), as that would make them even more non-canon than a few letters in the name on their character card to help differentiate it from other cards of the same character. Presumably, you only send shuttle missions with characters that were seen together in shuttles in the canon, and you never, ever fight against people on your "non-canon" list in the Gauntlet or Arena. And you must be taking enormous hits on your Voyages by only teaming together crews and a ship that already exist within the canon! If that's the case, then I think that's truly impressive commitment, and I respect your position. LLAP!
Why don't people like Vedik Winn? Her character is deplorable at times (she is a politician, above all), but she serves me very well on shuttles and voyages and she meets cadet 3* requirements.
I don't personally have any of the Winns in my crew (yet! Hoping to get Convergence Day Winn next month!), but my comment wasn't meant as an assault against her. I enjoyed every DS9 episode she was in (particularly before Season 7), and thought Louise Fletcher did a fabulous job. I just get the impression that on any team she would be more of a hindrance than a help! ;)

You don't seem to be grasping the notion that I don't care about the storylines created within the game. Captain Picard is called Captain Picard and looks like Captain Picard. That's good enough for me. He's one of my favourite characters in many episodes.

If the shows aren't enough and you want to create a fictional adventure in your head when you send them on a shuttle or a voyage then so be it. That's cool with me. I never said I had a problem with the gameplay style of others.

Yikes, it looks like the point flew high over your head! The requirement to keep shuttle crews canonical would be a natural - indeed, one might say mandatory - part of insisting on keeping within canon. To airlock "non-"canon crew but then send off non-canon shuttle missions would be hypocritical (albeit completely defensible, as long as that person didn't then bang on about the canon violations of others while committing worse transgressions of their own).

If you're not keeping your arena battles, gauntlet matches, shuttle crews and voyages canon as well, then that's quite obviously a double standard on your part.

Quite correct, because the evidence I've seen (which comes mostly from you) suggests that you do care. You care strongly enough to airlock canon characters because part of their ID string references an in-game storyline. Not just any canon characters, but Legendary characters that could help you to attain others that don't offend your sensitive sensibilities.

And you also care strongly enough to publish multiple comments about it - apparently ad nauseum, based on the reactions of others here.

As one of your favorite characters said: "The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based. And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth, you don't deserve to have that account!" (Well, it was something along those lines...)

It seems to me that a more accurate and less embarrassing reflection of your apparent feelings would be "I don't like this character" or "I don't like this character's representation", rather than "it's a FAAAAAAKE!!!" Perhaps it's time for a little self-analysis on your part? MTFBWY! :)

Is this for real? Shuttles are a means to an end, to obtain and level more cards from Star Trek. I don't actually pretend that they are on a shuttle together, having wild adventures. They may as well just be a set of statistics.

I play because I want to collect characters from the shows that I like. I sometimes watch the episodes later and I also discuss them with my fleetmates. That's how I choose to enjoy the game.

I'm sorry that you are somehow offended that I don't collect cards that aren't a part of the Star Trek shows or movies. I just don't like the comic books, holidays in the game, and whatever else they use as source material.

I just worry that we're losing sight of the true meaning of Convergence Day. It saddens me to hear that special day weekend hijacked by people pushing their canon and crew slot agendas. That's not what Convergence Day is about.

It's supposed to be a time when we, like the characters and personae from across the franchise--including, yes, those from outside the Official Canon™--come together and agree that we're all way past sick of Galaxy Events and that the only reason anyone actually likes them at all is because of the community rewards. That's what I'll be doing this Convergence Day.

Which means the Convergence Day even this year will probably be a galaxy again, lol.

I started saving my Chronitons in August in preparation for the upcoming Convergence Day Galaxy Event, I'll be disappointed if it's anything but!

I'll FF/FE Klingon Quark this time for sure! :)

Limited crew slots means choices have to be made. I'm past the point where one card determines my success in any aspect of the game.

If you are finished with your desperate and extremely pathetic attempt to influence my crew selection, them maybe we can move on with this thread.

I'm all for joining hands in mutual hatred of galaxy events. They are without question the worst thing about this game.

You don't have limited crew slots. The vault exists for a reason. At minimum, you're leaving free dilithium on the table. I somewhat understand not wanting to grab 5*'s you might not like. They tend to stick around forever. There's zero reason for not taking a non-canon 4*. They're usually easy to level and once you vault them you never have to worry about them again.

Galaxy events are fine. They're not too hard, they're competitive amongst all player types and they give you free existentialist despair in the form of a free premium 10 pack.

While I don't object to non-canon crew the way Grant77 does, I have to come to his defense on this point. Easy to level or not, each crew member requires the same 293,910 XP, plus of course hundreds, even thousands, of chronitons, credits, and items. I decided quite awhile ago that I don't want to sink those resources into crew members that don't interest me, even if they do come to me as 4/4's from an event. There are always new 4/4's to be picked up from the next event, and the one after that. There's no satisfaction or pleasure in it for me to commit myself to leveling and equipping a crew member I don't care about just for the sake of padding my number of immortals.

Thanks. I'm rather shocked at the flak I'm getting for airlocking a few characters that I don't like or can't relate to. To each his own is what I say.

Except for galaxy events. Outside of the free pull that has nothing to do with the event, I hate them and I want others to hate them lol.

It's fair to not care for a given character or specific personae, or even a whole movie or series. What makes me roll my eyes is whenever anyone plays gatekeeper with this asinine "fake character" nonsense and declaring only what they want to regard as canon as a legitimate thing to bring into the game. And frankly, I find it a ridiculous basis for rejecting all non-canon personae on principle, especially for a fan base that professes to be open-minded.

I used to take more pleasure in leveling crew. In these Voyage days I seem to be able to plow through almost anything in no time. The only thing that slows me down are faction items and I can usually wait for the appropriate cadet mission to fix that.

I enjoy that I've reached a point where I can afford to only keep the crew that interest me. It had become rather tedious during my VIP 0 days to feel pressured into keeping someone I didn't really care for because their stats/traits made them too useful for me to pass up, often at the expense of having to let go of someone I did want to keep.

Galaxy events are fine. They're not too hard, they're competitive amongst all player types and they give you free existentialist despair in the form of a free premium 10 pack.

I won't say you're wrong about this, but I will say that I don't share your view on it.

Thanks. I'm rather shocked at the flak I'm getting for airlocking a few characters that I don't like or can't relate to. To each his own is what I say.

Except for galaxy events. Outside of the free pull that has nothing to do with the event, I hate them and I want others to hate them lol.

    And I do! *fist bump*

Or folks who make sure they get ranked up to get a character to airlock so that someone else doesn't?

You get honour and extra rewards for getting top 1000, so it's completely justifiable.

I used to take more pleasure in leveling crew. In these Voyage days I seem to be able to plow through almost anything in no time. The only thing that slows me down are faction items and I can usually wait for the appropriate cadet mission to fix that.

That why a incoming nerf was obvious, and frankly needed. That opinion is going to unpopular here.

I've been playing 20 months now. I remember how tough it was pre-Replicator/Gauntlet/Voyage days.

I'm just completely fixated on the thought of Convergence Day Winn now.

If ever there was a character who needed a VO in this game... "You may go now, my child," in that perfectly-pitched, sanctimonious, condescending nasal tone. Come on DB, make it so!

    That's mechanics versus intent.

Intentionally getting a character so that there is less of that character in game for other players is essentially caring about their gameplay and making sure they do not get to enjoy or not enjoy what you do.

Intent vs mechanics. Going for the honor is one thing, sniping something to get less of it in the game is another and out of the hands of others because you don't like it is another.

Perfectly phrased. I'd love it. Sanctimonious and condescending. I know she is nominally a religious leader, but she is really a politician. She is brilliant at achieving her ends and she honestly thinks it is for the ultimate good of others. She is the perfect kind of evil. And well acted. And her character in the game is very well drawn.
