First Impressions

Looked up the event where he was introduced and it was a hybrid Faction/Galaxy so there was a community reward for him and he was a threshold reward. So with the Community and threshold, many should have fully fused already.

I have him at 3* so that gives me another 4/4 to Immortalize this month. After 18 months of playing, the daily rewards don't provide much value. I had Drone 7 of 9 at 4/4 a couple months back, so I get one month of use before returning to honor collecting.

This is absolutely insane. I'm sure after putting Drone Seven in last quarter after she'd been in an event only recently, DB said they wouldn't do this again... But here we are.

There are dozens of 4* characters in the game, but we're getting yet another one that everyone already has. Ok, so there are a handful of newbies who don't have him FF, but the vast majority should have him.

It's like DB is trying to be as annoying and ridiculous as possible (see also Pirate Janeway).

They've just created four new 4* characters and put them exclusively in Voyages, but since it's a one-time thing, this is utterly pointless because the only way to FF them is to spend honour, and that's not worth it for any of them. Why couldn't they create a new one for the daily rewards? - That would make much more sense, would make a lot more people happy and eager to log in to collect every day.

Madness.

While there will be players complaining about the choice, Stamets is a great crewmember to have for shuttles, and even for non-hyper-competitive arena players with his +20% Attack speed. It will help a ton of VIP0's to get ahead of the curve with his stats as well.

I, for one, applaud DB for the choice, even though I've already immortalized the guy. I want to see more players joining in on the fun, and that's a very solid choice to attract them.

I already have Stamets immortalized and I had Drone Seven of Nine immortalized shortly after her release (I think she was my first immortalized 4* as well). I don't really care because I'm sure there are lots of players out there, especially new players, who don't have Stamets.

Was I a little disappointed when I looked this morning? Sure, but I shrugged my shoulders, said "oh well" and moved on. A little extra honour isn't a bad thing.

I think the daily reward 4star is a great way for new players and ftp players to boost their crew. Stamets is an awesome science guy, so for them he should be a valuable asset.

Yes, I too have him on 4/4, but I'm not complaining.

May I also add that Saavik, the 3* reward, is in my top 4 3* crew for cadet challenges, and a relatively difficult (from a VIP0 standpoint) one to obtain. She will work wonders for F2P guys, as she's viable for both Sat and Sun cadet challenges.

A number of people here seem to be under the impression that VIP0 players did not (and could not) acquire Stamets from his event. This is untrue.

But the point is, why chose someone who only a small number of people will benefit from when you could have chosen something that a much larger number of people would have benefited from? Once yeah, shrug and move on. But this is the second time in a row!

This is less incentive for me to log into the game on a regular basis, less to look forward to, which ultimately leads to a greater chance of me one day quitting altogether. If that's what DB wants, then fine, good move.

I immortalized him from the mega, and haven't really used him much since then. He's not a bad crew, and I don't begrudge newer players having the easy shot at him, but it does seem a little too soon to me after his release.

They need to cater to the newer Star Trek Discovery audience who have just joined up It makes total sense from a marketing standpoint in my opinion.

They still could easily have used a Discovery character that most people, if they wanted him, could already have FF. They create new characters ever week, one more to be spread over 4 months is hardly going to be too difficult.

At least they could have chosen someone like Tactical Michael Burnham who was from a faction event where it is much harder (but by no means impossible) for F2P players to achieve a high enough rank to get FF. Plus she's much more recognisable as the star of the show and thus would make even better marketing sense!

Agreed - but since posts are subjective, and my own opinion is the same... I can't say I like Burnham at her present state. Don't get me wrong, the actress is really likeable (I also watch The Walking Dead and I hated that she died - just to love that she did to come to ST:D), but they are not doing her justice. Right now, in the present state of events, I like Saru more than all the others - but I do have faith that they are going to pick it up big time after the break.

At the present state, Stamets and Detmer have sacrificed the most of all the non-dead crew.

I have Stamets immortalized. It **tsk tsk** for me but I'm sure some players will benefit. He's great for science shuttles.

At two stars and level 90, he is my best science. He has been great for me. A good choice for new players and one that helps me, though I hoped for a better med.

Hard to say how “needed” Stamets is for the player base since we don’t have access to DB’s analytics. As such, I won’t speculate too much on that point. Though in absolute terms, he’s a great addition to virtually any crew because his base SCI skill is so high. Since immortalizing him during the Discovery mega event, I’ve found him to be indispensable for shuttle missions. What’s more, he’s going to rank, at minimum, top 3 in SCI for most captains unless they are chock full of fused legendary cards. This is a generous freebie if focusing on its simple merits.

That said, Stamets was the threshold reward from a galaxy event, meaning he could be obtained FF without purchasing a single pack. I’d wager that a large majority of players who were around for that event have at least one or two stars on him already, so I’m curious as to how many daily players would benefit from collecting the reward through the entire four months. Again, without access to base-wide analytics it’s hard to make a general call here; but for me, it’s a letdown. Not only because Stamets was featured so recently, but he was also about as easy to obtain as event crew can get. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for something more obscure next time around, I suppose...

Admiral Prince mentioned something to that effect earlier I believe.

And I don't think having another Discovery mega event precludes having the other events, but I also think we need to get used to things like Discovery events happening when the show is live while other types happen when its between productions.

Meh, I think the monthly 4* is only good in your first 3-6 months. After that it's kind of useless. I've never needed all 4 months to finish one yet.

It would take some discipline, but I would love for DB to put a new, otherwise unobtainable 4* in there, and then it could be in an event in or after month 4.
C'mon, it would even waste a bunch of honor for the bigger boys that wanted it FF early.

I would think newer players would be more excited to get the awesome Lt. Saavik. But Stamets is fine, I really don't expect anyone I need from the monthly rewards anyway.

Despite the fact that I (and many others have him), I like that it is an event-only crew (for the moment, until they add him to regular pool). He also has the second-highest 4* SCI stat, behind Princess Jadzia, and Prodigy, an uncommon trait among 4*s and 5*s (3 Wesleys and a handful of one-off characters, though strangely Racquetball Bashir and Professor Scott are the only versions of those characters that have it...). They also probably wanted remind people that Discovery is coming back this month and tie into it. It may also be that another Discovery mega-event is coming.

In terms of skills and stats, I would rather see Stamets than someone like Hologram Barclay. Now character choice, that's a different question.

I have him FF, I never expect the monthly reward to be anyone I don't have FF already anyway.
So even though this is the case, I think he is a good monthly reward because he is a good SCI character and a lot of people could use some strong SCI who are either new players or weren't able to get him FF'd in the event.
