I shouldn't care anymore, but the pure stupidity of choosing cards that were just in an event (especially a galaxy) just bothers me. Every active player in the entire game already has at least one copy. It shouldn't be this difficult.
That's why it's a good choice, as already affirmed by some of the forum members who have chimed in in this thread already.
You lost me. The 4th month (and probably more for most) is a total waste. A character that fewer players have would unquestionably be a better choice.
Would I prefer if the Daily Rewards featured an exclusive crew member? Certainly. But the Daily Rewards aren't meant to pander to established players like me who want something shiny and new. They're meant to be a gimme to newer players still building their crews, and few things are as helpful to that demographic than getting extra stars on a 4* they have but haven't been able to fuse. Giving them a Daily Rewards exclusive 4* that they won't be able to finish fusing for four months ties up a second crew slot. Surely even established players can appreciate the value of those precious crew slots, especially for the newcomers.
Yeah... I'm not a fan of reusing recent event characters. There's no variety that way. I think this is the third time the monthly has been an event reuse: Drone Seven, BO Troi, and now Stamets. I think all three were community rewards at some point too, so everyone has already had a "free."
Bridge Officer Troi may have been the worse of those three, as she was done in reverse. She was the Daily Reward from May through August last year and then turned up in "Mind and Matter", which started 13 August. That meant a lot of players went into that event with a 3/4 Troi they were able to finish fusing with the first Troi in the thresholds, didn't need the other two in the thresholds, the one from the community rewards, or the Daily Reward at the end of the month.
I guess I should have waited a day or two before getting a citation to finish off Stamets. Live and learn.
It's generally worth waiting a day or two if you're that close to finding out who the next daily freebie will be. Also worth waiting before making a crew dismissal decision if you've got a 3* or a 4* you're considering 86-ing.
I got annoyed because I didn't FF him when I had the chance during the event. That was the only reason I pulled the trigger. I would have used the citation on my 3/4 100 First Officer Saru had I waited, but there will be another opportunity somewhere down the line, so it all balances out.
I have space to spare on my ship right now, with only 56 out of 90 positions filled, due to a batch of 2* and 3* in cryo.

Making the monthly 4* an exclusive reward for logging in has been something that I and a lot of others have been asking for since the damn near beginning of the game. But, as time and experience shows, DB prefers the exclusives to be only had through RNG (see gauntlet and voyages).
Since they seemingly want to only use event characters as the monthly now, it would be nice if it were at least one that featured in an event where only 3 copies were available. Galaxy/galaxy hybrid event characters are more likely to be FF by all.
I think it's becoming clear, that using a recent galaxy event crew is a feature not a bug to DB. They don't want to be giving away a 4* anymore, but they know that if they ever dropped that people would scream. So instead they've decided to pick crew that most people have FF. That way they can still give away a crew without actually giving away a crew to most players.
I don't think he's all that terrible in SEC, though he's no Ash Tyler. Of course, with Gun Show Picard, T'Kuvma, Kortar, and Will Scarlett Worf, SEC isn't a need on my ship.
Stamets is currently my second highest base science (behind Princess Jadzia) so I will happily make room for another one that I am going to get 4 free covers for. Same reason I now have 2 4/4 Borg Sevens. I don't recall Stamets being that hard to level either, you can always freeze them.
Having multiples may not be helpful in Galaxy events, which seems to be the prefered event type surely, but faction events I would love having an extra.
He was an event crew in the discovery mega so I have him immortalised. This isn’t the first time I’ve been in a situation like this but there is a difference if I’ve portalled a crew to FF and if the crew arrived FF at the end of an event.
I mean come on DB, there are enough 4* crew in this game that you can steer clear of event crew that many players will have ff already when you are planning the monthly calendar. Heck the monthly rewards would be a great way to introduce new crew that cannot be got any other way.
I guess as many players collect more crews, eventually they will have duplicates. I have enuf duplicates even from event packs. of course there are many other super rare crews that I haven't got, and I am also on the 'why I don't have those instead' camp.
Maybe DB can instead offer a new crew as part of this that would be beneficial for everyone.
They need to cater to the newer Star Trek Discovery audience who have just joined up It makes total sense from a marketing standpoint in my opinion.
This. I joined STT about halfway through the Discovery season and completely missed the first half of the Discovery Mega-Event. Now I'm already ViP13 and playing catchup on Stamet & Suru & 2/5* T'Kuvma and the rest...

I was happy with Drone seven - as i joined after the event she was crew for, but got 4 stamets in the discovery events

Why not create a new character for the log in rewards. Staments boyfriend, Dr Hugh Culber, would be an excellent choice, a free 4* med.
