Both have a very bad reputation for breaking something every time they add anything......

Actually MAA was pretty solid there after the first year. I played it almost all four years it was active. They acquiesced to too much pressure from some users and used the nerf bat too often however. (Brute was the poster child there, where they ended up rebuffing the nerf and it just got silly from there)

I would not say "pretty solid" since even near the end, most every time they added something, it messed up something else......

Just how like they would introduce a new E-ISO, and it would not do things it specifically said in the Mouse-Over it did do. {The "Fix" was always to Nerf it to take away the thing it was supposed to do, and not fix it. Or they would add a Hero with new Debuffs or something, and old Heroes would lose stuff. Or it would stop working.

    And how Luke Cage/Nul was Immune to Bleeding {Unbreakable Skin}

Just seemed like it was always something. Maybe it was subjective, though.

Umm Luke Cage SHOULD be immune to bleeding.

Most EISO's would function fine the first time. I only had problems with one, and I earned almost every single character one in all the events.

Yes, and Luke Cage was Immune, as was Nul. Except as the pic says. Nul in the Daily Mission with Skadi and them was NOT Immune.

The E-ISO that comes quickest to mind was the Scrapper one {Flow Like Water} that was SUPPOSED to give "Uninterruptable". It allowed Scrappers to be Interrupted almost every time.....

nope and nope. and from the sounds of it, guess i should be glad i didn't. I like the Marvel IP but don't know nearly enough about it (let alone compared to Star Trek). I like the new MCU movies, and am interested how they diverged from the comics, but not enough to say that anything that deviates from the comics is blasphemy (a la canon debates).

A lack of forums or wiki is more of drawback to be honest. Being able to agonize over the minutiae of a game is what some people want. Hell I don't think I even wanted a fiddly Star Trek game till I started playing STT.

DB does *hugs* up more than they should and they don't always fix problems in the best way but they've yet to break the game in a serious way. The game precedes mostly as it should. You get some options to getting crew, you get some options to level that crew. Money might make things faster.

I think what breaks it for me is the context. There are mobile games, then console games, then computer games. the gap between console and computer games is shrinking (maybe even non existent now). but the gap between mobile games and console/computer games is still there.

meaning - mobile games (and this includes facebook games/browser games) to me are time-fillers. they're games you play while commuting, when you've got 30 min to kill, doing your business on the throne, etc. the complexity (and honestly, needless complexity) of STT outweighs most console games and rivals some computer games. the build recipes, for instance, far outweigh any materia/weapon-building recipe from any final fantasy game (at least, up to x-2 - that's when i stopped playing).

why are these recipes so convoluted? honestly, it should be something like 4x 0* builds a 1*, 2x 1* builds a 2*, etc. the fact that db couldn't even be bothered to have unique icons for items (because there are so dang many!) should have been clue #1.

if i wanted to play a game this complex, i would want it to be a computer game - where i can have multiple screens to keep track of spreadsheets/recipes/items and the actual game on another screen - not a mobile game.

i'm not necessarily against in-depth games. but to the degree of how in-depth STT is, it's borderline ridiculous. in fact, they've stepped on their own toes so much that there are unique items that are 100% indistinguishable from each other (hello phaser type 1, medical scanner).

i think the episodes, crew, stats, voyages, gauntlet - they're all ok. sufficiently complex, and not too campy (although some are somewhat repetitive). but the underlying crux of the items/recipes - it's just too much.

Seriously it is like getting a table saw, and them demanding the cash spent on it instead... DB is trying to be generous take it or leave it... stop acting like you are entitled to whatever you want.... if you spent to get Picard immortalized great, now you have an extra one... for free, why should they give you anything?! It's rather telling that you referred to Mirror Picard as a 'gift'. He was not a gift but rather compensation or an apology to players who were affected by the downtime at the end of the event. The simple fact is that Mirror Troi was the 5* rank reward not Mirror Picard. No-one would have complained if Mirror Troi was sent in compensation. The reason Mirror Picard was sent to everyone rather than just the people affected was apparently due to an inability to verify the effect of the downtime on individual player rankings.

Using your analogy, it's more like your good friend Derek asked to borrow your table saw, he then accidentally broke it, and then said to you "I will not be repairing or buying you a new table saw but here is an old hammer I had lying around". That hammer does have some value, more so to people that don't have a hammer, but it is not a table saw. It is then not unreasonable to say "I lent you a table saw and I expect a functional table saw back, and I'm a bit offended you tried to give me an old hammer instead". To Derek's credit he then did give you enough money to buy a table saw instead, after you made your displeasure clear. And has bought you another gift to celebrate a birthday.

I think that this is not unreasonable, is it? What is unreasonable is your other friend Tron telling you that you should be grateful for the 'gift' of the old hammer that you got 'for free' and why should Derek 'give you anything' for breaking your table saw and suggested that you should 'shut up and leave'.

    Well said.

    I don't want it to sound like I hated MAA. It was my favorite game. I was sad when it got cancelled. {Especially the way it was handled.}

But, I had been warning people for MONTHS that it was NOT flowers and sunshine they were blowing up our anal sphincters when they kept Tweeting out the reassurances. I began doubting when the CA: Civil War movie came out. Until that point we had had a movie tie in Special Ops with EVERY MCU movie. {Starting with Iron Man III, since the game launched with the movie "The Avengers".} Other Marvel games under the Disney umbrella did get tie in events. We got "Civil War II" from the comics, and got one new Hero from each side of that conflict. That was the first warning sign. People did not listen, because the company was basically throwing the Twitter person under the bus and feeding him intel to pass on that turned out to be false.

As to the other game I mentioned, best example is from YESTERDAY. At 1200 Eastern a Raid started {their monthly event}. The 0.1% of players who could hit a specific certain Target that only they could hit got FIVE HUNDRED MILLION POINTS for a Target that was supposed to pay Five Million Points. Most quickly hit two, got a Billion Points, and claimed every Prize in the Raid they did not have......

I did not mean to derail this discussion, but as bad as thing were with the Christmas Event, DB is still doing better than some companies that do games I have played.

Comparing an EISO or two not working to game go splat periodically is an odd benchmark.

    I may be remembering wrong. But it does seem like every time they introduced a new Debuff on a Hero or Weapon, it seemed to break something else. {Maybe my over-all frustration tinted my remembering......}

Even if it was that bad (and really I don't remember it being such, though I used mostly character based EISOs, not the others...) I don't believe they had more than 2 if not 1 game not available moments that I experienced. I get that quarterly here.

Adding levels to characters went without a hitch. Adding gold for level 300+ with out a hitch. Special Ops without a hitch. Craftable items without a hitch but well, a money grab.
Change of PVP to percentage based rewards, no hitch.
Group boss, no system wide issues just badly explained.

I think people get too angry with db. No game is going to be glitch free. No game company is not going to make any mistakes. All you can hope for as a player is that when a game company makes mistakes that they own up to it and try to make amends. DB does that. DB has been far better than the other game companies I have dealt with.

please before you go on about how games have issues go back here and read what the game was like just 5 months into it. And here we are once more with a problem that DB handled poorly and once more didn't communicate well how then intend to fix it. Instead they let players figure out a way around it and then when that became wide spread they put up a post that said that was the solution.

What the people like Silverrose and Frank are talking about is not just because of a one time issue but a systemic problem at DB. The Pitch forks are well earned by DB. If you are not satisfied with the situation we as players can do 1 of 2 things. Quit or push back and not let DB get away with it.
    Sincerely,

Maybe the irony is that we play because we’re Star Trek fans, those hopeful idealists that like to think things will get better when we raise valid concerns about fairness and balance, etc and we forget that DB’s greed openly mocks the values espoused by the franchise they have a license

  • I want to hear more about Derek.
  • PallidynePallidyne ✭✭✭✭✭
I'll say this much....if Derek comes over to borrow a shop tool and then breaks it, and doesn't fix it immediately, he probably shouldn't have been operating said shop tool in the first place. I mean, you don't have to have a license to operate non-industrial construction equipment, but if a guy breaks a simple table saw because he was trying to build a deck himself, we have bigger issues.

I think Derek shouldn't be cutting corners if he is building something large and unable to reliably operate machinery. He needs to front the cash and hire a contractor or a skilled laborer to do the work for him. He can even claim it as his own in the end, but if a guy manages to break a saw, it's just a matter of time before he lops his hand off.

Also the hammer was probably mine that he borrowed 8 months ago and I forgot about. So now not only is Derek unskilled and likely a danger to himself and those around him, but he's also shady as he is trying to pass off an item as a gift that's actually mine to begin with.

The more and more I think about it, Derek is not a healthy person. I don't think he and I can be friends anymore.

Since the horse has been dead on this thread for a while....

Frank, what do you think of your favorite person and mine (JG Hertzler) making a run for a government job?
  • Frank?Frank? ✭✭✭✭✭
I feel Hertz (as I call him) can do and will do anything he sets his mind to. He is truly a renaissance man. He may be an actor, but in him lives the spirit of Martok, leader of destiny, leader of the empire.

He probably wouldn't break my table saw either.

    Stupid Derek.

Doing stump speeches in the persona of Mark Twain are making me want to drive up and see him speak even more. :)

I just want him to do just ONE as Laas or Martok.

Bye bye just shut up and leave... good riddance, people who want to make everything a capital offense should leave, or be thankful... they don't have to give us anything... and booting the people who demand things like honor to replace a gift?! would help. Seriously it is like getting a table saw, and them demanding the cash spent on it instead... DB is trying to be generous take it or leave it... stop acting like you are entitled to whatever you want.... if you spent to get Picard immortalized great, now you have an extra one... for free, why should they give you anything?! I just hope all of the offended people leave so the people that are thankful and want to HELP improve the game stay.... rant over

    Dear Frank:

I’m so sorry about the table saw... You’re right, I shouldn’t be handling machinery right now. But you know, after the divorce and my wife leaving and taking the kids along with the dog to the winter home down south leaving me with this old broken down home, I thought fixing it up and building a new deck would be good therapy to get my mind off all the pain. Obviously I’m still distraught and emotional about it an can’t concentrate.

After it was built, I figured we could cook up some burgers and kick back on it and have a few beers and laughs. But after I broke your table saw, I kind of went into a spiral thinking nothing in my life was going right. When you came over asking to be compensated for it, I was kind of depressed and
The first thing that came to mind was giving you the hammer that was just lying around because I wanted to be alone with my thoughts.

Then you kept badgering me every waking hour of the day and night, calling, sending texts, even throwing little black pebbles at my windows, demanding a new table saw. I would have bought you a new one to replace the cruddy old one I borrowed (rusting blades are not a good sign you know) but figured just giving you money to buy one was the quickest way to get you to stop harassing me.

Then my birthday came and instead of you coming over to help me with my deck or buying me a present, I bought you a little present in an attempt to salvage our friendship. But, it’s obvious you don’t have it in you or desire to be a real friend so I guess you’re right, we should call it quits.

    Derek

PS: The hammer was always mine, you’ve borrowed it in the past and said it was great which is why I figured you’d like it.

Oh, and thanks for hijacking my thread

"Boohoo, oh woe is me." Ingrate. Your wife left because you're a lying SOB who steps all over the people who made it possible for you to have a summer home in the first place. The signs were there proving you broke my saw on purpose. How convenient, since you own the store where I buy all my tools. You knew I saved and slaved to buy that overpriced saw. You told me it was the only saw like it and I needed to buy it before it was gone. Don't think I didn't notice you gave all your other customers free saws last week after I bought mine. A store credit is the least you could do after I helped put all your kids through private school.
