Curious-When Is One Considered a Whale?

I’m a VIP 14 four times over +8. I know there are people way more than that. At one point does one achieve whale status?

    I dub thee 🐋... happy?

Or if this offends you... then consider yourself a smaller whale... like a Beluga 🐳...

VIP 14 qualifies you as a large marine cetaceans in my book... all bow 🙇 to the great aquatic mammal !!!

When you get Be-Golds where all of them are immortalized or fully-fused and you can't use any of them (550 Honor airlock aside), that's the first sign of whales in the sea. :)

Dang! Almost! I’ve had begolds where two were immortalized. I hope the thread didn’t come off as self serving. I’m not seeking to be identified I was just curious when the term is applied

Actually there is a formula I think for vp to $ that is pretty constant isn’t there... not getting offer in US$ doesn’t help me... something like $.02 per point... does anyone know exactly what it is?
  • I think every vip 14 is a whale.... to put that money into a mobile game that you do not permanently own means that you are a whale.

I would argue that by normal standards vip 13 is already whaleness.

Ditto to what Paund Skumm said. I've had this debate with a few people before, but I think that achieving VIP 14 confers automatic whale status. It's $1000. Spent on a mobile game, that *just* celebrated its two year anniversary. To put that into perspective, $1000 would buy you well over six years of World of Warcraft, about a dozen and a half console games at full or close to full price, or literally every game ever made if purchasing for PC during a Steam sale. Outside of games, it could buy you a round-trip intercontinental flight, a bottle (or two!) of first growth Bordeaux, and a litany of other fantastic goods, services, and experiences. It's more than most people's rent. Now consider that some have spent enough to achieve VIP 14 many, many times over. That's a different order of magnitude, but it's like comparing the size of stars and deeming some of them smaller than others.

I think if you are inhabiting this forum, you tend to get a warped perspective. The people on here care about STT the most, and so you see a disproportionate number of VIP 14s. That makes perfect sense, but it gives the false impression that tons of people spend that much, or even most of the player base. But it's probably a fairly limited number of people in absolute terms, and the "average" STT player will probably buy no more than a few monthly cards and the occasional other special offer.

At any rate, tl;dr, VIP 14 = whale fo' sho. I'm not really judging that choice, but if you're spending at that level, you should recognize that you are an enthusiast.

    $20k+

A high roller, also referred to as a whale, is a gambler who consistently wagers large amounts of money. The definition of a high roller varies. At Crown Casino in Australia, for example, it involves bringing between $50,000 and $75,000 to the table

I will take two bottles of premier cru off your hand any day at that price...

Round trip intercontinental? Yeah, cattle class maybe... please... don’t put first growth Bordeaux and coach in the same paragraph...

But I just made VIP 8... after 17 months... which is 1/10 of VIP 14... so I guess that’s like $100.

I concur. VIP 14 is whale status.

The Timelines Whale Collective, which is exactly what it sounds like, meets every other Tuesday at our secret facility, deep within Mount Doom.

If you would like to join our happy and lovely group, please prepare a 4 page essay on the impact of the mass production of cheap ink pens and how that crippled and ended the market for quill pens, save for quill pen aficionados.

Once this essay has been submitted, we will contact you to come in person to Mount Doom for a luncheon and social event. If you gel well with the rest of the group, which is to say you don't hurl slurs or wipe your nose on the curtains, we shall send a membership kit to your residence within 6-8 weeks.

I rather liked Mount Doom... went there with the missus on vacation once... found a lovely gold ring but this giant burning eye kept staring at us so we left for Gondor...

I lack 9 Legendary crew that I have no copies of.

I have 8 Super Rare crew that need stars.

None of the above 17 are in the standard loot tables.

I have 108 premium 10x portal pulls sitting. I have 261 premium 1x pulls sitting. They will continue to sit until the loot table has been updated with whom I'm missing.

Elusive Treasures was nice, because I actually got stars on the purples I needed, and one of the golds I didn't have. The issue is when the new 3x3 packs come out weekly (3 Gold, 3 Purple) and I have all but the one new guy in it. I'm just not down to spend crazy money chasing that one guy. So i play the patient waiting game. Every behold I could get today from the loot table would be a bust.

Woah... just saw that on a different thread... Whale is insufficient for you Frank... Moby Dick is an understatement... can you gift me some of those premium portal pulls? That’s like more than I probably have done cumulative over 17 months...

You want your gold ring back oh dread dark lord?

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who doesn't know what the "right" decision is there. I keep racking my brain and can't get it.

Yes, food is more important than phones...but KFC isn't exactly healthy so that's not a good choice either. If I just ate fried wings, I might get really sick and not have a way to call for help without the phone! And heck, I prefer Droid anyway. Maybe I should just buy a cheaper Pixel phone, and some of that Bordeaux?

I will stand firm on cattle class on long haul... 15 hours in coach is a nightmare. The full flat beds up front and free champagne for this boy... but I could be a VIP 14 four times over too for the price of a ticket... and I do it at least twice a year still... priorities I guess...

  • I spend an average £15 a week on this. Sometimes it's for dilithium for the event pack, sometimes a special offer, sometimes a DYC. If I get a pricey special offer one time, I don't get anything for two or three weeks to make up. I wouldn't consider that being a whale. £15 is less than what someone would spend in one night down the pub :\
