Apology accepted. My intention was to provide advice by pointing out a perceived error in your strategy, if that wasn't clear. Unappreciative responses are not necessary.

I have yet to see anyone attempt to prove which approach will yield higher VP at the end.

I always level the event characters. Partially because I have a fairly deep cache of components but I just find Galaxy events less frustrating with leveled crew. I can't say for sure if its the most efficient use of material but seeing 60-70% success rates on builds makes me feel better. I remember the early days of Galaxies when I had weaker crew and I didn't care for the 30% success rates.

As for Cornwell specifically, she's sometimes the best DIP character depending on traits.

Another consideration with Cornwell is that you basically have to level her anyways. She's the most important character for the next 3 events. Leveling her first allows you to spend your chronitons more efficiently on the galaxy event.

What I was doing, to clarify things, was seeing how far the stated number of Chronitons would go in the Event, for people's info. I did not state that. I could have collected as I went, and added those Chronitons to the amount, I guess.

    {Another issue with Cornwell was, if I was going to do the DYC for her this week, I could not do it until yesterday morning. The DYC only lasts for 12 hours, so.......}

I'm a little nervous to use honour or the double-up offer. The mega event character used to be a safe place to do that, but my confidence is still shaky after the Picard fiasco. Having said that, DB did eventually even things up, so I'm leaning toward biting the bullet and hoping they've learned not to do it again.

It's just going to pull so much joy out of the game for me if they do it again and I like enjoying the game.

This. If they repeat the Picard Fiasco, I expect them to do something again, like they did last time.

Yup, was nerveous as well. But after Shan’s categorical post, decided to take the plunge. Hopefully DB will want to avoid another fiasco, especially so soon after Picard.

I have a great feeling that something like Kir'shara Archer could be an event crew

T'Pau would also be nice :)

At the risk of opening old wounds.

I chose not to level cornwell beyond 70, which I basically had stuff in stock for, and using the replicator when it’s available beyond that. I’m not seeing many “med” recipes come up, and dopey Tyler (who I did level up) is covering the dip ones.

My gut is not levelling cornwell is a valid strategy for this event. Yes she needs levelling up for the rest of the mega event, but that can wait until tomorrow when chrons are not at a premium

Absolutely valid. I didn't use her at all in phase 1.
She does get a few nodes now in 2 though, so pick your poison.
  • How much VP should we expect to earn to rank top 1k?

Fair point, but after I managed to get her to 70, I mostly relied on add warps, cadet items (med experiments) and replicators to get her FF. Not things that directly compete with galaxy.

Will see if it was right strategy. She know tomorrow :)

I leveled Cornwell first, and I regret the chroniton expenditure now -- took about 1k chrons for me to do it. I should have leveled Stoner Tyler and waited to level Cornwell until after the event. Now that both are leveled, Tyler handles almost everything better than Cornwell, with exception of one MED mission. I will have to dip further than planned into reserve chrons if I want to rank in top 1k players and win a copy of Scotty. Oh well; lesson learned.

  • WOW best participation in a galaxy since I've been keeping records ~68.5k. Still not up to the lowest score of another type event ~69k but very close.

We usually have 10-15 of our fleet in the Top 1k. This time we had 4 with over half our fleet just doing one build or so to get the community reward. Most of my guys skipped this one. Shame, Scotty is the best.

I'm surprised they didn't at least play enough to win a copy of Cornwell.

  • Hi Scott, my gut feeling is to level event crew during the event. I don't know how many chronitons I spent, but at the finish I was 2,500 lower than when I started. I fully leveled and equipped Katrina, Ash, Lt Commander Scott (2/2) Ensign Kim (1/1) and finished off Gillian (4/4) (from level 80). I used 3 supply kits, 1 more than usual, and managed to put a couple of bits of level 90 equipment on Kurak (4/4). I started leveling and equipping Captain Kirk (2/2) yesterday. Leveling crew before doing the event will cost you more during the event, but they will need doing anyway, so why not do it while they are being useful and when you have a supply kit already running?

I do this too. (Leveling during Galaxy Event with boost.) Last week was more of a pain than usual because Cornwell's leveling items 1-60 were the same as all the stuff we had to farm for the Galaxy! That was a bit annoying, but once I got my top threshold rewards, I quit the event anyway to concentrate on crew building. Has this been the case with new crew during Galaxies? I haven't been paying attention until now.
I want to become a Dilionaire...

I went in with just over 3000 Chron. Used a 1250 Chron sorryton I had saved to help FE Cornwell and Ash as soon as I got them on threshold. Then used them to keep crafting to get more bonus items. Of course Ash was FF at 130K. Also FE Tarah by Sunday night (I worked on her slowly after she dropped from community) so when ranked rewards came after the event, she was FF as well.

So FE three characters during the event (did no pulls before as I always don’t for Galaxy because of community awards). Used two supply kits, one at the beginning and one Sunday morning to the end of the event. I had lots of extra items to craft but stopped Sunday night where I was about 400 in ranking (saving items for later). Ended up at 721 rank but haven’t leveled Scotty as he is not useful in other events.

Probably could have done top 1000 without using the sorryton if I hadn’t leveled Tarah as she was pretty useless during the event as a 1/4*. Cornwell was of only modest help as well but Ash showed up everywhere for some reason. I know someone questioned my assertion before that I can level crew while finishing top 1000 without spending money or DIL but this once again proves it can be done pretty consistently still. And I generally don’t pre-farm because I’m collecting Chron from voyages and stuff pre-event (other than do a 10-warp on a ship mission to get my daily rewards). I also don’t buy extra cadet tickets for more Chron or Shuttle boosts on Thursday for faction events.

Not in my fleet. About a third didn't participate at all and our fleet score was one of the lowest I've seen.

I did not compete. I went to threshold and ranked pretty low for me, at 6674.

I don't enter every event to compete, that's very chroniton intensive (let alone items) I'll pick and choose depending on circumstances. I'd have liked Tarah but I didn't think I'd get her FF so I held back. Most times I do give it a go, another few thousand chrons and I might have got her but technically I'm still building a strong crew so I'm bring careful with resources.

I think that's the difference. Sure, if you're just looking to complete the threshold rewards, then you can claim and level crew mid-event and use the better crew to reduce the total chrons needed for thresholds. But if you're looking to rank, then every chron used to level is a chron not used to earn VP and you need to balance those two. I can level Cornwell after the event(I did last night), but I can't earn VP after the event, so if I dedicated chrons to leveling Cornwell mid-event that would have reduced the chrons I could use during the event.

Its a balancing act. I leveled both Cornwell and Tyler during the event. After I got Cornwell, took a break from the event to FF both of them. It pays off because you get more rare rewards. Managed to finish around 1500 - a bit better than my goal to FF Tarah. If I had pushed in the end, I could probably have managed Scotty, but was not too keen on another 1/5. So switched to leveling Tarah for next (this) week.

Well, it depends. Tyler was VERY useful this event for me. Cornwell was waste of chron though. But FFFE Tyler was very good investment, with backup of 1000 sorrytons and 3 supply kits I was around 600 on the verge of day 4 while FFFE Tylor and lv70 Cornwell... the only reason I was not in top-1000 (1196) was because I consciously decided that I need crew slot more than Scotty and that I don't want to ruin somebodies chance for the crew I'll airlock - I spent ZERO chrons on event in day 4 (and some hours of day 3, including returning Voyage).

Without leveling Cornwell I wouldn't need that 1000 backup chrons too, Tyler covered Dip stuff nicely.
