These horrendous GUI issues are occuring for me, on both Windows (Steam), & Android (v5 & 6)
If this is classed as 'working as intended' - Do Better really need to reconsider their position here, as this is getting ridiculous.
Lots of wasted space in many windows, and sending out shuttle window is ridiculous.

The current solution is just making everything look worse for me, using 1080p monitors - which are nothing special in todays standards.

I'm told this is not a bug, but is WAI (working as intended), as part of the changes to better support a greater variety of resolutions.

Supporting resolutions or making it bad on some screens to make sure the IPhone X looks good? Cause it looks like more of the latter.

Making the typing really really tiny for Shuttle Missions on the LG V10 and V20 may be 'intended' as well, but is not appealing.

It looks like the character images in the left pane got smaller too.

    Before:

After (notice the feet in relation to the "upgrade" button):

    dsuafsc4yaso.png

Click on a piece of equipment and the character gets greyed out, even if you are not crafting but just checking a stat. I'm hoping it's fixed with the "Understood" issue that they list as known, but not completely confident on that front.

  • which devices were impacted positively by the upgrade? Because otherwise I would like to ask for a rollback and as usual, the reintroduction of beta testing.

I think this is intentional but it’s pretty horrible. When you build an item and then confirm to equip it, the screen remains in its shadowed format showing you the equipment you’ve built while the bonuses are applied, so you can’t see what bonuses are being applied WHILE they’re adding to the character. You might can catch some of it if you punch the button that goes back to the regular view of the crew a couple of times really fast, but chances are you’ll still miss seeing those bonuses being applied. I know this is a minor thing, but I’ve always really enjoyed seeing the bonuses go on to the character. For reference, here’s what you see while the bonuses get applied from the equipment to the crew.

For those that would like to know, I’m using an iPad Pro and the latest iOS.

    +1 , best solution, imho.

So instead of 5 lines of equip, we now see 2.5 lines only. :s

  • Also they seem to have forgotten to include the buttons with which to sort the cryostasis menu, search through the cryostasis menu or do anything with the cryostasis menu other than open and close it. Is that WAI as well? Wasn’t that 4.0’s big thing?

These changes are only going to be live with the forced upgrade.

I believe it was suppose to be, but it looks like all they’ve done is arrange the crew in alphabetical order. No searching method available to me at least. The funny, not funny, thing is, I had just started getting use to the old cryostasis order and was finally starting to be able to find who I wanted relatively easily enough, lol. Back to square one I suppose. 😐

@Jassada If that’s the case, I’ll be glad to see the forced upgrade occur then, at least concerning the cryostasis.

P.S. - I went back and looked at the release notes and @Jassada is right. We should be able to start sorting and such in the cryo once the forced upgrade is done. That’ll be a relief. Sorting in the cryo! Awesome!

  • I have 4:3 format and plenty of res (2048 x 1536, Samsung Tab on Android) ... the inventory is badly narrowed for me, too. The darkening of crew in the Shuttle Mission screen is too much; at maximum brightness I can barely see which crew are in use there

This. To me it seems like we've all been thrown under the bus, so the precious iPhone users can think their amazingly overpriced phone looks amazing no matter what game they play.

As a person of poor eyesight, some things are now way too small on Windows/Steam versions. It's more fiddly to press certain buttons, some buttons that were next to each other now have considerable gap between each other, good bye muscle memory,
I also need to manually press the back button after clicking on an equipment icon for a crew, instead of just being able to click on another directly afterwards.

As of this post, no one has commented on this thread to say anything was positively effected, so lets roll this back and get some sanity back, eh?

The only mildly positive comments I've seen anywhere have been from a couple of folks who have "ultra wide" aspect ratio Android phones. Stuff like the LG G6 which is 18:9 or Galaxy S8 which is 18.5:9

So is DB telling me to go buy a new phone rather than Event packs, etc?
How about different interfaces optimized for the 3 most common aspect rations and resolutions?

There definitely needs to also be a different GUI set for Steam/Windows users too. Bundling us in with phone resolutions just won't ever work to a good degree.

If it’s any consolation, as an iPhone X owner the update has made it almost unusable (see my other thread). This is just a terrible bodge at trying to support all devices.

Curious rage at a particular brand of electronic device aside, the UI looks like garbage for both iPhone 8 and iPhone X users. Calm your chesticles and hope DB doesn’t shrug at all of us and hope we get accustomed to the alpha build-worthy UI - that we *all* have to use.

Software development often has a fallacy relating to programming languages, frameworks, etc. that offer the "ability" to write code once and deploy it everywhere (without worrying about specifics of the OS or platform you're deploying to) and have it just work. This rarely turns out to actually be the case and almost never happens when you start involving GUIs and multiple operating systems. It often ends up with the nickname "write once, debug everywhere".

I feel like this last update is making DB learn this the hard way.

I'm using Steam on a 50" TV at 1080p. You would think I should get more than 2.5 lines of visible equipment, but my screens all look the same as what's being posted. As well as the cutoff 11 for stories. Bad upgrade indeed.
  • and hope DB doesn’t shrug at all of us
Based on past experience with DB. that is exactly what is going to happen here. I'm open to being surprised though.

iPhone X user here... just chiming in to report that the update looks, let's say, not great on the device. I feel like I am reading a large print book. The issues that other folks are reporting are also present on iPhone X.

I think worst of all was the chroniton recharge screen which clipped to the point where I could not click out of it (the yellow X is off-screen). I had to force-quit and restart the app to continue playing...

Issue here as well on screens being cut off:

This is not a cropped image, it is the full screengrab:

Oh, and here’s a screen grab from the materials listed during replication. Someone want to tell me why there’s now this weird space on the right side of the materials? It’s as if there’s room for another column of materials or at least half a column. It wasn’t there in the previous version. I’d imagine that this has something to do with the “wide screen enhancements” but since the screen I’m using IS a wide screen device, I’m not sure why it looks that way.

P.S. - I’m not actually replicating that item; I just used replicate on the nearest item to show what I was talking about.

It may well be... This game used to work well on my Nexus 7, but as of last year, I can barely load it, much less play in it.

Oh, hey, look! I just discovered another DB-Creep: Hardware Creep... Yup, the Internet is very unsafe these days... So many creeps out there...

now I'm curious to see how did it improve for these devices and what they were experiencing before, because all other instances on other platforms are ridiculous: panels shrinked with a lot empty space leftover or too big that don't fit in the screen, no half measures in between. I'm lucky that I have a 7inch tablet and not a cellphone, many are genuinely struggling trying to read.
  • There are a lot of angry users complaining that their experience is suffering because of the UI changes intended to make the game more optimized for iPhone X, let me calm all of you down and let you know that the changes are horrible for iPhone X also. Screens are cropped, buttons are now HUGE, menus overlap each other, and now when I scroll left to right on the loot collected during a voyage, it triggers iOS to switch apps completely because it is so close to the bottom edge of the screen. This wasn't a big UI change they made, or any sort of optimization, they just zoomed in the screen a bit so that all the pixels were filled in iPhone and called it a day. This is a beta-grade update. The fact that this is happening to everyone regardless of platform supports my suspicion that this game is coded once and converted into other stacks. That explains the poor performance at least. For example, on my iPad mini 4 the graphics lag, but it's powerful enough to run other games and video that are a lot more intense. Any why would Android, Windows, Steam users be impacted otherwise? It's not just a different app store, it's a totally (well, mostly) different code stack. I digress. I've seen others post similar theories, but this is why it's not a great idea. To miss the objective for every single platform is just remarkable.

The game is a lot of fun, but when it comes to some of the decisions made for the development of this app I am confused. I know for a fact that a game of this size and complexity isn't easy to update in this way, but this isn't good for anyone, not even for the intended beneficiaries. The only screen that looks better in the entire iPhone X experience is the one I look at while the game is loading.

Just to add my own two cents with my screen and all that... I’m an iPhone 6S Plus user, and the worst UI problems I’ve noticed so far are just minor annoyances. I don’t know that any of the changes are better than before, but they haven’t affected my playing as much as it seems to have affected others.
  • I have an LG G6 and the new UI is not an improvement
