Ok, so I'm blatantly just doing this to get the first post in this new forum, but might as well start with the obvious question and go on from there! Feel free to post your reasons why.

We all agree that it's one of the most flawed series, but nostalgia can be powerful.
I went with VOY, only because I want to show it some love.

Why Discovery takes the current favorite spot, is because I've seen all the other episodes and I like exploring strange new worlds, and Discovery offers that. I like it so far and I also think that given time, it will prove to be a interesting series. That said, I've never had a shred of nostalgia or sentimentality, and tend to consider differences between various stories and perspectives within a common universe to add to the overall quality of realism and immersion. Much like the way, as a student of history, the most accurate view of what actually happened tends emerge from some combination and distillation of different and often conflicting views and accounts of events.

I grew up on TOS movies, then TNG movies. So one day a few years back I decided to watch through all of the Star Trek series.
I started with TNG because I didn't feel I'd be able to appreciate the antiquity of 60's TOS without having more Trek under my belt. I loved TNG, then I went onto DS9 which I loved even more than TNG because of DS9's world-building. After TNG came VOY, then finally TOS because I felt ready by then, then came ENT, TAS, and of course now STD/DIS.
But it wasn't until Voyager that I really got absolutely enthralled by a Trek series. TNG started the spark in my serial watching, and DS9 captivated me, but it was the tight-knittedness of the Voyager crew, the strong character development, and the unique anomalies of the Delta Quadrant that outright enchanted me. I really felt like the Voyager crew more than any other Star Trek crew was a family, they all had regular interactions with one another in their episodes, and they all shared a common goal - to get back home and to stay together. It just really resonated with me.

And it's worth mentioning that the other series all have their own bright points too. We'd have nothing without TOS, and Spock is *the* icon of the whole franchise. Voyager had a "desperation" streak that made life interesting. Enterprise was enjoyable (though admittedly I don't recall specifically great things about it).
I like some of what has been said about much of the series having had bright spots. I can really get behind them. But I go to DS9 though as a complete body of work because, with a few exceptions, its enjoyable as a whole. I guess its why I also enjoyed Farscape, Babylon 5 and some others. Even the weakest eps usually contributed something valuable and enjoyable to the whole.
Don't forget the other spin-offs: TNG, VOY, ENT and DSC.
Its pretty incredible what they did not only lower budget but an ever shrinking budget. The Western ep was a perfect example of doing what they could when their budget had been slashed. It looks arty and minimalistic now, but was not how they wanted to do it.
So, how does his statement forget them. He's stating that the reason that DS9 keeps topping the polls is that the age range of average DS9 viewers correlates to the average age range of the playerbase...
Not a bad thought, it would be interesting to explore the data. Especially since I know at least one person who Enterprise is their favorite who is the same age as me (Sisko all the way...) (not Cisco, not Sisqo, Sisko)
But he could be an outlier, or hell, I might be one age wise.
Absolutely +1
As a child of the 60s family tv was new & not taken for granted at my house. With a father part of the west coast aerospace scientists, watching trek during the 60s was seeing what my dad was ultimately working toward. At least that's how my kindergarten imagination understood what dad did at work.
Since DS9 overlapped with the last two years of TNG and the first five years of VOY, I doubt age would play a significant part in how you rank these three series (although it is true there is a notable difference between the start of TNG and the end of VOY, so age might well be a factor in preferring one of those to the other).
For TOS, ENT and Discovery though, I will agree that age is almost certainly significant.
But not just age per se, other circumstances surrounding when you first saw them are probably just as significant. Seeing them on a big family screen with friends, loved ones etc. will naturally make the experience different to catching them on a portable TV/computer at university for example.
100% agree. Personally, I started young with TNG (IMO, the beginning of the 'golden age' of Rick Berman's era of the franchise). I watched all the way through the end of ENT and now, of course, Discovery. I think DS9 is the best, and not for nostalgia reasons. I view TNG with much more nostalgia than I do DS9.
When you have to say "At least it was...." that's not a ringing endorsement, lol

The way I would have done ENT is have Season 4 feature Terra Prime as the main plot of the whole season. Earth was at that time facing strong xenophobic attitudes due to the Xindi Crisis, which would have acted as a perfect transition into Terra Prime being the main plot of the season. I feel like a plot like that could have carried the show one more season if anything. I heard that if there was a season 5, they would have revealed that T'Pol is part Romulan. That would have been interesting.
