The reward must fit the error. 5 star crew error, 5 star citation. The citation was the right move here and right by DB. The mirror picard dibacle was avoided.

My friend was using my Surak and getting a ton a filed missions, costing me points as squadron leader, hurting my event rank.

But Surak was working fine for shuttles, the issue was the build bonus in phase 2

Any event Purple October onwards and Voyage exclusive crew
here is the best thread on the topic:

Another alternative is bringing a good 2/4 SR that is in the portal up to 3/4 that way when it next drops you will have a good SR immortal. But the safest best use of it technically is voyage exclusive crew because you have to cite them at some point if you want to keep them.

Wow, when I first read this, I thought the post was being sarcastic. I spent a legendary citation to get the bonus levels on Surak, not a super rare.

how low has DB lowered our expectations that compensation in the right direction, no matter how woefully short (18k honor vs 50k honor) is deemed incredible?

What would we call the correct compensation?

    impossible...

There is always at least one person for which nothing is ever enough. Today, you are that person. Where we could have ended up with 500-1000 sorrytons (which would have been nice for some), we got something that no amount of sorrytons can produce: an extra star on any super rare crew of your choice.

No getting forced into having a superfluous star on a crew member you’ve already frozen, no pile of chrons that would pale in comparison to what some expended on the galaxy portion of the event, no other award that would be torn apart as short-sighted or outright offensive by the community as a whole...and you manage to find a way to complain all the same.

I quite enjoyed putting a fourth star on T’Rul even though it’s a month too late to help me in the event. Why? I get one notch closer to the next immortalization achievement and I get one of the better shuttle engineers in the game. Think of a super rare crew you have that could benefit from an extra star and relax.

And this is why I said that DB has lowered our expectations so much that anything resembling positive is viewed as incredible.

I already stated that citation was the right way to go, but the value of the citation was wrong on several orders of magnitude (either 1 of you're counting stars, or a factor of 2.8 if you're counting honor).

I forgot to mention that I was pleasantly surprised there was any compensation, especially after the announcement that there wouldn't be any.

But again, the compensation serves more to distract people (oh, look at this shiny new thing) instead of actually apologizing and repudiating the issue.

Tell me, what did this extra super rare do to compensate you for this failure? Did it refund your purchase? Did it get you closer to the actual event rewards you would have gotten had there been no coding error? Or did it do something completely unrelated and under-related to your loss?

You're right, DB could have given even less meaningful rewards, but why are your expectations so low?

I'm not asking for 10000 dilithium or unlimited crew slots. Given that Surak can no longer give featured bonus for the mega event, his overall usefulness has depreciated considerably. All I'm asking for is a refund since my resources I spent farming those 50,000 honor for over a month (or $25 for others) have gone to waste.

How would you like it if a store gave you a 25% coupon off good for 4 days, and when you go to the store, there's a glitch in their POS system, it charges full price. A week later, they refund you 5% off. Is that an incredible offer?

I added a citation to Surak back in the second week of the event...and more importantly, I didn’t participate in phase 2 at all. I hit all of the thresholds with the Faction half of the event and was on vacation anyway, with no time to tap tap tap tap tap the weekend away.

So maybe these are the reasons why I just don’t feel the same sense of loss that you do. Or maybe it’s because a minimum of effort throughout the last month has granted you four stars on one of the most powerful crew in the game (in or out of the event) and your greed for compensation for that fifth star has blinded you to that fact. Saying that you’re not asking for “10,000 dilithium or unlimited crew slots” is a smokescreen...and a ridiculous one at that.

Why is it ridiculous? Two things:

    1) Look at the history of rewards for varying levels of bugs or errors. This is not a game-breaking bug like what instigated Picardgate...the lack of additional bonus affected everyone equally for the entire duration of phase 2. Unless someone did not participate in phase 1, the bug had no effect on attaining threshold rewards. In months past, we might have gotten a couple hundred dil, probably 500-1000 chrons, and possibly some honor. That DB sent out a citation, even a super rare version, is a step in the right direction.

    2) To continue using your coupon analogy, you’re asking for 50% off to make up for the 25% off deal you missed out on and saying that it’s a reasonable request because you’re not asking for a two week trip to the Bahamas...you would be laughed out of a store for that kind of behavior.

To summarize: yes, the overall feeling about this compensation is positive. Because it’s a sign that DB is being more thoughtful about compensation for errors on their end. Remember what happened with Mirror Bev and Mirror Picard? They’ve come a long way and I think it’s time for some positive reinforcement.

    Positive reinforcement, yes.
    They deserve that.

    Come along way ?
Only if you count going in circles.

Mirror Bev, Mirror Picard were the lowest examples, hopefully the exception to the rule.
Frankly Picard was -almost- right, but should have been Mirror Troi that they gave instead.

This isn't an amazing, astounding incredible gift or Compensation. It's proper at best and I do highly value it.. for most, they will feel whole by it.. for some, they will not and that's ok too.
I understand them not feeling ok with it.

Surak was popping 50% on average during Galaxy phase while the 4* Troi was popping high 70s and 80s.. by her numbers, he should have been hitting 90% with his stats and never got close even with a 5* skill boost (didn't use it, but did check it)

That can lead to a massive point swing.
There are a lot of could of, would have, should haves that come into play.

Add to that, the total radio silence and lack of fix, the frustration of you again, paying (by money or citations) for something that will give Max. Bonus for a short time and not working and yeah.. I can totally understand just on the frustration level of why people would want more.

Hell, maybe I could have cracked top 50 or 25 there's no way to know.. people who finished 1500 could have ended @ 750..
It skews the results and yes, everyone's results were skewed.. that just makes it all the more right to compensate everyone.

    Could it have been more..
    Yeah. It could have been.
    But, at the downside minimum..
At the very least.. the 4 citation if acceptable (to me).

It's better then their Plan A.
Thank you again Shan for going to bat for us
I've missed this Shan and hope when the next inevitable error occurs that we'll have this Shan on our side and again.

After all, all we want is an excuse to give you guys money (10 for 10).

If your here for us, were here for you DB
But when you forget where it all comes from and how you guys got to where you are today.. we'll be gone.
  • I wonder what the compensation will be when they finally admit the boo-boo with the faction missions (shuttles).... :p
  • I’m kind of surprised by the reactions here so far. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised nonetheless. I had expected to come to the forum today and find a whole lot of yelling at DB because they gave us a super rare citation instead of a legendary citation. Naturally, I would’ve been happier with the gold version but I liked getting the purple version as well, especially without having to spend precious Honor on it.

So, thanks, DB, for giving us all one of these. Consider doing so more often; maybe even slipping us the gold one now and then. Also, thank you forum, for not screaming at DB for giving us a free star for a super rare crew member of our choice.

And now my entire point is moot. Sigh.
Weirdly enough, I’m also Vulcan Housewife. Also, RNGesus hates me, like really, REALLY hates me.

They’ve been closing threads left and right about it. Doesn’t seem like they want to talk publicly about it

First we were told we had to ticket. Then no tickets - global compensation. Now people are getting extra compensation on top and it's as inconsistent from CS as we've all come to expect.

All this going on with an issue they've messed up on in the past exactly the same way too..

It was never said that you could not submit a ticket if you felt that the global compensation was not appropriate for your specific case. You have that option, and it will be reviewed by Support on a case by case basis.

And as is always the case, if you believe your ticket has not been handled appropriately, request an escalation.

  • This kind of random compensation seems to go against capitalism and I don't agree with it. This is a capitalist game where only those who have worked a long time or paid to succeed make it to certain thresholds. Giving away things to people who haven't earned it creates this unfair advantage for those who haven't worked for it. This is similar to the Mirror Picard that was sent out to everyone. It was unfair to those who paid for it.

Good old RikerWasNumber1 over here, injecting his politics into an online game again. Shan, please snip all of these threads.

How is this politics? It has to do with the game.

    Closing before it derails further.
