As little as I know of ST ... and DS9 especially ... I'm quite keen on this mega-event.
- I like the look of the key crew involved.
- New event type, so that's better than just the same old, even if it disappoints it is something different.
- I actually like the triple hybrid idea ... wonder if we'll get the community rewards from the Galaxy section! ... bummer that Galaxy is last, would liked to have it in the middle, so I could just skip that phase.
- I also like the limited bonus crew aspect, I like the challenge (I have 5 Augments, 3 of whom are worthless and my Riker's only 2/4 so can also fit into that category too really).
Anyway, I'm ready ... Augment's levelled, Siskos levelled, most of my DS9 crew FE (should any happen to be bonus crew) etc.
The triple hybrid will be good if each portion is 1 day or possible 1 day each for Expedition and Galaxy and 2 days for faction (since it takes time to get shuttles up to 4000).
I am concerned that we will have a six day event for the final event, but two days for faction, and one day each for the other two sounds good. The other option is to have the faction lasting two days, and expedition/galaxy running together for two days. Give us one set of (three) tokens for the expedition, to be used at any time over the two days.
Great choice for Sith Lord Bashir, I think that's what most people here wanted. Let's just hope his skills are not idiotic like Dip/Sec/Command.
The triple hybrid will be good if each portion is 1 day or possible 1 day each for Expedition and Galaxy and 2 days for faction (since it takes time to get shuttles up to 4000).
Using 4x shuttles and 10x 3* timers 3x 4* timers & 1x 5* it takes 3hrs 30 -> 3hr 45min
Using 3x shuttles and 10x 3* timers 3x 4* timers & 1x 5* it takes 5hrs -> 5hrs 15min.
To get to 4k shuttles if all 30 missions are successful.
It takes 40 shuttles for 4k, not 30. Also, we don't know how many factions/missions there will be for the faction portion.
The majority of the players aren't like us. They aren't going to have
1. 4 shuttles
2. An abundance of time boosts
3. Event crew (few will have many, if any, augments with limited crew space)
That means more time and more failures.
This works for the new 6x missions if there are 3x Factions.
If there are only 1 or 2 Factions there are 12 missions rather than 18, yet it is still possible to get to 3500vp missions in a reasonable time frame with 3 or 4 shuttles.
But a much longer time then you originally estimated since it’s 10 more shuttles that you first thought (40 not 30). Of course, back when there were three faction events and each faction had 10 missions it was quick because you could do 30 of them almost immediately and be done with a Knouff to reach 40 within a couple of hours.
And that’s assuming no failures at all. Remember a success counts as 1 shuttle, a failure subtracts 1.5 shuttles.
Of course, since they updated the description of the event and it looks like all DS9 crew will get a bonus it will mean less failures
@Shan Can you verify which announcement is correct? The one that says Augments get a bonus or the one that says Augments AND Deep Space Nine crew get a bonus?
I am pleased that we get another Bashir ^^
I've wanted Bell Riots Bashir a while, though I do think this particular choice of image for him isn't what I'd prefer, he does look like a Sith Lord lol.
I am hoping he'll be MED (~1100-1200s), ENG (~900-1000s), SEC (~500s). We definitely need more MED/ENG combo people. We have no one who has those stats and is strong (800+) in both or even strong in one and mediocre (600-800) in the other.
Changeling Bashir - MED mediocre, ENG weak
Rianna Mayweather - MED mediocre, ENG mediocre
Delta Flyer Paris - ENG strong, MED weak
Leonardo DaVinci - ENG strong, MED weak
The Caretaker - ENG strong, MED weak
Admiral of the Haus of GaghGagh, Starbase level 94, we are not accepting members at this time.
Captain of the voyage vessels: Queen of Bashir, Landsknecht, and Sunspear, the first luxury starship cruiseliners.
Amenities include wifi, fully-functioning holodecks, a full-service bar, 3 party decks, a Trill spa, and a business centre.
Fun fact: The ships are propelled by bouncy castle technology.

And while you are at it, could you please define Deep Space Nine crew? Thanks. There are many who c look old be DS9 crew, depending on the definition.

The more I think about it, the more I prefer some skill gaps in order to make the game more challenging. Doesn't hurt if we need to be creative.

Having one character who has those skills in a strong capacity though doesn't mean the skill gap is no longer there. It's still there. Just like we have characters with strong CMD and MED and that skill gaps is still there too. The skill gap will always be there even if characters have those skills but are in short supply.

And the skill gap keeps increasing. Unless it's properly addressed. Newer players are particularly impacted because they don't have access to older crew in the same way, and stat creep means the older crew aren't as good anyway. It seriously imbalances gameplay. There are still a lot of skill combinations not filled (for Voyages in particular) by any crew, whereas there are a plethora of dip/sec/cmd combos widely available. Particularly dip and sec primary. This is cool, but there are two main areas that are massively unbalanced. Engineering primary is one, now that Med primary has started to be addressed. The other is Med secondary/tertiary in combination with other skills.
For example, there are only 3 medical crew with Command primary and med secondary or tertiary. Rakal Troi, Delta Flyer Paris, and Tieran Possessed Kes.
And Temporal Prisoner Chakotay (ever seen him?) is the only crew with Sec primary and med in one of the other two skills.
Whereas we have 82 variations of cmd/dip/sec in various orders, fairly well distributed.
Engineering primary is just horrible right now. Out of nearly 600 crew, there's only about 20 that are readily available and useful for voyages. A lot of the crew used are eng secondary to try and fill the gaps, and luckily a lot of crew have engineering as a backup skill. Med much less so.
Anyway, enough of the distraction. This Mega-Event looks really interesting and I'm keen to go!
That's a question I think many of us don't know the answer to. Reliance on flawed governments? Belief in a flawed and corrupt economic system? Because even survival in the wealthier parts of the system takes up all your time and energy and doesn't allow much more than an acknowledgement that the system **tsk tsk** - and you work harder to make sure misfortune doesn't happen to you too, despite working harder means you are creating the system you think is failing?
Those episodes are the best episodes of Star Trek ever, imo. Even now, I still have tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

How could we have let things get so bad?
At the time, I remember feeling hopeful that we were on a different trajectory. Today, "Past Tense" seems all but inevitable.
Fun fact: DS9 was a syndicated series, which placed its scheduling in the hands of whichever local station aired it. Here in the Louisville area, that was WDRB, the Fox affiliate. They aired DS9 Saturdays at 6:00 (convenient because another station showed TNG at 7:00!) and then repeated that episode Sundays at 5:00.
When "Past Tense, Part I" aired, WDRB was showing a University of Louisville ball game that ran right through the DS9 hour. Okay, no big deal; catch it Sunday. Except Sunday, another ball game ran right through that DS9 hour, too! The next week, they aired "Past Tense, Part II". It wasn't until some time later that following week that they finally aired "Part I". That was a weird way to experience that two-parter, I can tell you!
That kind of thing happened often with DS9 here, which compounded the widespread perception of DS9 being the redheaded stepchild of the Trek family. I think that kind of endeared me even more to the show, in some odd way. When "What You Leave Behind" aired, Fox (national, not local) was airing a Cubs game. Naturally, that game went into extra innings. Ridiculously. I forget how late it bumped the episode. My friend and I, who had gotten together to watch it, just laughed. It somehow felt like the perfect sendoff for DS9, to be bumped one last time by a ball game!
Travis, that makes me realise I've never seen Star Trek on TV. For so long I've only ever seen shows via the internet or from DVDs and videos. Even Disco was via Netflix: gotta say I love the way I can pick and choose when and where I see stuff, and without ads!

Based on the story suggested, I imagine he'll have diplomacy as a skill as he's the go between with the Augments.
