Really DB? 500,000 VP to Get a Tilly? What BS!

this **tsk tsk** **tsk tsk**... 483,000 VP and I still don’t get a **tsk tsk** Tilly! i placed about 1176. Could have put those 3,000 chrons to better use last night, but thought i could place in the 900’s. Didn’t even have an option for 250k VP for 1,000 Merits.

I spent 1500 chrons in the first two hours on Thursday to get 137,000 VP. I was going to stop and just be content with Tyler, but saw the possible usefulness of Tilly and thought I’d go for her last night.

With the added number of players to the game over last two years, the reward structure has not changed and deep he seriously needs to look at this. I should not have to fight so hard and spend 5000 chrons to not end up in the top 1,000. just over 1 million VP was needed to be in the top 50. **tsk tsk** ridiculous.

It's good enough for the Arena, why not events?

This event in particular was ridiculous. I was up to around 390k VP just to edge into the top 2000 to FF the Orion Slaver. I know we have more "disposable income" chronitons than before thanks to Voyages, but it's getting pretty crazy. At least having some additional threshold rewards to make the investment more worthwhile seems sensible.

Would be good to expand the rewards a bit but not sure why db would do it as the more competition the more people spend. The argument for expansion would be that if people get too frustrated they will just quit. A big spender in my fleet is very frustrated with his event ranks. I hope he doesnt quit but he is very frustrated. As more and more people play the rewards will need to be widened or people will quit.
    Let’s fly!

Did more people really play or did simply different people come in with more chrons?
  • I didn’t spend a dime (other than monthly card). I saved chrons from Voyages for 3-4 days. But it’s still quite frustrating to get nothing for so much effort!

I can’t complain about Voyages. I’ve got 24,000 chrons over the last month I wouldn’t have had. It has also been filling in *’s and adding new-old 4* crew that i didn’t have (or got rid of long ago due to old slot issues before cryo).

I got my best-ever ranking this event, but it involved a ton of pre-farming for about a month (and not leveling anyone but a few event crew during that time), running Voyages non-stop during the event (including waking up every hour to tend to them), and spending Dil on extra cadet tickets and the chroniton packs that were offered. It's definitely not something I would do every Galaxy event, but our fleet decided to go all-in on this one, and we managed to take the top spot because of it. But talking to everybody in the fleet, we're all completely exhausted and (somewhat literally) spent. ;)

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.

Congrats on the great event, Data! But I don't even want to think about how many VP you must've pushed to. :#

There's so much more chronotons out there. I spent about 5000 also. You have to watch out the last 2 hours and make sure you have room to spare.

I would only do it if I really wanted the character. In this case I will enjoy seeing Tilly's cheerful smile to brighten my day.

  • I played for top 3000, ended up 3076. Thought I had it in the bag last night, being in the 2800s. I had to buy Cadet tickets (much better on Mon Wed and Fri than 150 dil for 50 chrons, don't get fooled) to get more chrons this morning, only to find the crafting gremlins had arrived, I found myself spending a huge amount on items, especially 0* hyperspanner, 0* communicator(TOS), 0* combadge(TNG) and 1* database. There were some others, even some that usually aren't that hard to get, but you get the idea. Hard to believe it's RNG coincidence sometimes...

I was on my way to another 4650 rare rewards completion when time ran out... RNG luck ran out I guess. I'm certain yesterday's slow down didn't help any, especially if some had regular speed while was stuck in Hailing Starfleet Hell!

Harrumph and shenanigans!! (respectfully in a non-complainy way, lol)

I went in harder on this event than I ever had for a galaxy. I was pre-farming, which is something I never did before, and I spent every chron from my voyages during the event. I didn't buy extra cadet tickets or the chron deal in the portal, but I did a single anti-matter refill for 3 or 4 of my voyages during the event. I managed to place in the top 100 with 905,000 VP and achieved a personal best. As I said, this was the most effort I've ever put into a galaxy event, and I don't plan on doing it again for quite some time (if ever). I can't even begin to imagine the number of chrons I used. My crew is very much ready for me to start leveling them again.

I agree with this 100% I think DB really needs to update their rewards structure for events overall, but as long as people spend money the ways they do why should they. If I ran DB I would be hesitate to adjust.

I am glad after Friday I decided to stop. It was a great call on my part and after I turned in my rare items on Saturday I was just above 2000, without doing anything else I ended at 4600. Really glad I didn't waste time and money on this one.

  • Indeed. I played for the top threshold reward (130k) and came in at place 15000. That is ridiculous! Please switch to percentage based!

Oh it didn't help that they added a Chroniton purchase this event. I am sure a lot of people bought that.

Regarding the percentage based reward proposal. I wonder if anyone has kept enough data around to extrapolate what top 2500 and top 1000 would have been about 6 months after release, versus what that would appear to be today. More players then? More players now? If there are significantly more players now, it would definitely make sense to restructure the ranked rewards ladder.

While we're at it, threshold rewards could do with being reworked too. Galaxy events (and to a lesser extent, faction events) go WAY passed 130k, but there are no more thresholds after that. I think it would be appreciated to get some credits/chronitons/merits/honor every 50k or 100k or so after the current final threshold of 130k. If someone puts in the effort to taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap to 500k threshold, I think it's fair to get some extra tidbits along the way.

Personally I stopped at 130k because I knew there was no way in hell I was getting top 1000 or even top 1500.

The total VP needed for this event was greater because the VP awarded was ~50% higher than the previous two events. It was giving 1550 pts per node as opposed to 1150(?) the previous weeks. Cashing in 12 plans was 6250 pts and it was 4650 last week. Voyages also seem to make Galaxy Events more competitive.

That's not to say that threshold rewards don't need to be updated for Galaxies.

Or to fix bonuses like Convergence Quark giving more than Georgiou.

Personally, I didn't have any issue maintaining a top 2000.

Suggestions of reworking the rewards notwithstanding, galaxy events have always been like this. With faction or expedition events you're only sacrificing your time and opportunity cost sending shuttles to a different faction. But with galaxies, you're spending chrons and inventory to achieve a goal and if you miss, all that effort and those resources are for naught.

Know this going in and make your choice accordingly.
  • I was rank 190 last night.

Today, I had to spend another 150 chron just to stay in the top 1000. It was brutal.

I want to echo the statement that “all rewards should be % based:

    Top .005% = 5*
    Top .015% = 4*
    Top .05% = 3*
    Top .15% = 2*
    Top 1% = 1*.

That would be totally reasonable for just about every event

That's a really important point about the VP structure being different for this one, but still doesn't really explain (and certainly not solve) the problem. Though the rewards were higher, that wouldn't necessarily change the rank reward levels since there's still no reason that people would push for a specific target number. If I'm trying to get rank 2000, I'm not going to say "I'd better earn 50% more VP than usual because everyon'es getting more". I'm going to raise my rank to my target and see where things go from there.

Bad luck can play more of a factor I think if the VP rewards are higher. There may be more of a spread in points for that reason.

Mostly the higher VP just makes the threshold rewards look worse by comparison and make it look like more work than it actually is. Also the community reward was obtained in 8 hours. Which is kind of cool but I also remember a time when getting that wasn't guaranteed.

That's crazy. Less than 500 people would get the 5 star then. I would say 2.5% should get the 5* and 10% should get the 4*.

For the first time ever I went for a top spot on this event (snagged #7). It didn't cost much but required much pre-farming and skipping many other galaxy events. All I will say is I won't do it again unless rewards are changed. I was able to pull through and get something for my efforts, but everyone from 16-500 got almost nothing after spending TONS more than people around 1000. No way I'll take that chance again. I feel bad for people who just missed the cut after spending so much time and money trying.

Really, no difference between #16 and #1000 except a few pulls and some rations?!?!?!?!

Well there are some folks who expect to rank at a specific point by making all the thresholds, so yes there were some folks saying 130k and out. So that would affect some players (but not all, probably not most) expectations. So it would be a factor, not a deciding one, but a factor.

This one was all over the place, and without some numbers that I'm not sure we can ever get (like participation population) we're making educated guesses. Did more people play? Did the hardcore Tilly or Discovery fans decide to go all out? Is this one a peak outlier or the new normal?

I think if scores are going to remain higher, that there should be more Threshold rewards. Keep the 3rd star of the 4 at 130k, but other currencies, or maybe equipment for the 5 and the ranked 4 in there. (Frankly I'd love to be getting equip for all the characters, worst case, you've got some rep fuel.)

I ranked under 100(my best ever) and spent $0 on the event. With correct prep and planning it's possible even with the crazy scores this event.
