From the beginning the in game chat has been censoring some really strange and inoffensive french words. My fleet has tried to figure out the logic behind some of them and given up. I can understand when a romanian word sounds or looks like a dirty equivalent in english. However it has always gone beyond that and included random words that don't seem to mean anything in other languages. We can't talk about ranking in french without putting random dots and spaces in the word for example. It is annoying. I have yet to come across new words that have been censored though.

You have to be kidding me, half my sentence is censored because it has the word Asspin (without the pin) in it? Give me a break. Fleets are more than capable of booting people who go over whatever line each fleet has. If you want to censor UC because you guys are too cheap to hire a moderator, fine. If you want to continue making money from this game, treat us like the adults we are. You obviously didn't make this game for children, they aren't going to be buying $100 packs every weekend. Rethink who your target market is, because your target market will leave if you continue making changes that are not user friendly. Who thought server side filtering was a good idea? Did you hire them from China? If you want to do censorship, make it client side, offer levels of Normal, Light, or None and default to normal. You could even allow clients to define their own censored words locally. You all are making things that are a few peoples issues an issue for everyone. Give me a break guys.
Censorship should always be client side. Why take the choice away from the user? I choose to spend money on your game every month, let me choose what words I want to see. What kind of interactive game doesn't have a filter toggle these days?
I can go in UC right now and talk about "smoking a blunt" but I can't talk about "drinking a pint" because a unit of measurement is now censored. This is silly and should be rolled back immediately.

We should be able to turn the censorship off and if people want censorship on they can turn it on. It doesn't need tweaking it needs an on or off switch. I'm still leaving this game if it isn't removed.

Totally agree. This is the one place I spend my extra money. When I can't even chat with my fleet without using a third party app, its time to move on to a game with a developer who actually listens to the people who are paying the bills.
Awesome, in the last 2 hours we have gone from Asspin being ok to say to now it is banned and I can't even change my name. DB is fabulous. Enjoy your slow decline into bankruptcy. Asspin out!
apparently im a pottey mouth throwing hashtags everywhere using normal common language thats listed in the dictionary. while i do feel the need for censorship, and understand its neccessity, the system db is using is hashtagging normal words used on a daliy basis tnat has nothing to do foul language racism or hate. words such as accumulate or cumberson. its getting harder and harder to make a complete sentence in chat without seeing ##### every other word.
this formula your useing is in the wrong. and needs to be nerfed before lose more members to hashtag names beeing banned. and others who have decided to quit the game entirely because theyre messages are hashtagged too much.
how many more players have to be banned or quit before db realease this is a mistake.? i myself will give it a week or so before i withdraw. communication is key in a fleet. we need to be able to train our newer players. under these new hastag rules, thats nearly impossible. do someing soon. please!
With all of this censorship there will be boycotting next. However watch boycott will be the next banned word. People are already quitting the game, and saying they are not spending on this game anymore. It is only going to hurt DB in the long run. It'll be sad to see Timelines go under because they have to be ridiculous and treat us like children.

I can't believe you guys actually spent the time and money to block so many words and phrases that could potentially be bad. I challenge you all to go into UC and make an effort to have a real conversation without something being blocked.
It is a pretty BS move to ban someone's screen name just because they go against your censors. Seriously DB grow up. How hard is it to give us a freaking option to turn on or off a filter or are DB programmers just not that smart? After the last message we all got from Erin Price about building a better game for the players we're all left scratching our heads at the way the new censorship has been implemented (actually just thrown at us with little to no warning). We can understand wanting to maintain an E10+ rating, Star Trek has long been something that families can enjoy together. We can understand wanting to root out abusive language. But at the same time your core players are adults 30+ who grew up with Trek and we really prefer being treated as such. We cuss sometimes. We joke around with our fleet sometimes. And we don't like being blindsided. That's really the two biggest issues here. We are mainly adults and want to be treated as such, and we were blindsided. We're losing fleet members and damn good players because of this. I can appreciate that the censors are currently being tweeked but what we're all trying to get across here is that this needs to be fixed, not tweeked. Give players or fleet control of how much censoring they want. Or perhaps have age verification and auto censor chat for minors playing. Whatever, just fix things and realize that a few hunderd sorry chrons wont make up for what we've lost because what we've lost isn't just the ability to say "**tsk tsk** this" "make out" or even "pint." What we're losing is players, friends, and trust in DB.

For exemple, my fleet, Quebec Alliance, is geographic/language based. We have no use for an english language-based censor filter as hat is not even a language we use in our chat. The same goes if you have a jewish fleet, they should be allowed to talk about antisemitism and name the terms they want to grieve about without being censored. If you have a clearly adult-only fleet, where is the need to censor sexual terms or profanity?

This is the most reasonable post in this thread, and it echoes what my fleet has been saying for months. We haven't had any "edgy" people join us so far, and our conversations are benign. The clumsiness of the filter gets in the way of even that level of communication, though. Just yesterday, when listing crew members I'd completed recently, I discovered that "Bartender" is now censored. Apparently, this may be because of "Der Alte", which is ludicrous because "der" is such an ubiquitous word in German (being, you know, "the").
I have no problem with a moderation system. I don't view it as some form of tyranny on the part of DB, and I don't view players who are offended by certain terms as whiners who need thicker skin. Everyone should feel comfortable participating in the chat, and it's not asking too much for players to be considerate of one another.
It's also not asking too much for players to be able to type benign words without prompting a guessing game to figure out what the word was and why it appeared as ######### instead of "Bartender". Remata'Klan and Ometi'Klan are other problematic names. At least they post as Remata'#### and Ometi'#### so it's obvious which character you're discussing. [We still have no idea why HBO is censored, unless it's because it's an anagram of BHO, President Obama's initials.]
many combined german words seem to be censored. while "hab" (have) and "ich" (I) alone are ok the combination "hab ich" (I have/have I) is censored. very annoying, because it is used pretty often....

actually this is some thing that i would very much agree with, as it would allow us to choose for our selves.
consider DB, you wouldn't like some one coming along and suddenly deciding that some thing your enjoying was going to force you to radically change the language you speak or ban absurd words just because it offended one person 50 years ago.
by adding the censor, you have offended a great many of us far more so than any of our possible swearing could any one else.
How many potential new players have turned away because they got fed up with all the broken garbage.

Did a new version get pushed? It seems we have a new level of crazy today. New every day innocent words getting censored for no apparent reasons. Also, putting dots or spaces in between letters doesn't solve it anymore. Dots gets censored all over...letters get half-censored (which makes me wonder how do single letters get flagged as something to hide?). It's really weird because once again it's for words that don't exist in english and are not offensive in any way in their original language (the french word for think for exemple).
